Background: To assess the influence of the time interval between pregnancy and the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on maternal-infant complications.
Methods: This is an analytical, longitudinal and retrospective study comprising 42 pregnant women who had previously undergone RYGB, subdivided according to the time interval between pregnancy and bariatric surgery: ≤12 months (G1), >12 and <24 months (G2) and ≥24 months (G3). Anthropometric variables of mothers, newborns and information on pregnancy complications were collected.

This work aimed to analyze the effective doses radiation, estimated from the dose-length product, in 4821 examinations carried out in three CT scanners (named as A, B and C) during the period of December 1st 2013 to 30th November 2014 and compare them, with 95% confidence interval, with typical values for the CT practice described in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Report # 96 (2008). Introduction: nutritional deficiencies are still a common problem during pregnancy causing anemia. Gestational anemia is still considered a public health problem in Brazil, because it is hazardous to both mother and fetus, and is associated with increased risk of maternal-fetal morbidity, as well as the nutritional status of child.
Objective: to evaluate the frequency of maternal gestational anemia in newborns and its relation to the nutritional status of the child at birth.
Objective: To present the results and conclusions of our study on surgical treatment for unstable pelvic fractures in children subjected to surgical reduction and stabilisation.
Methods: We analysed the cases of fourteen skeletally immature patients with unstable pelvic fractures who underwent surgery for this condition between March 2004 and January 2011. The surgical technique used was based on the principle of surgical reduction and stabilisation of anterior and posterior lesions of the pelvic ring.

Physical and/or sexual abuse, negligence, and psychological abuse against children and adolescents, constitute a socially important syndrome, demanding preventive public policies and rules for its eradication. Sexual abuse, as a troublesome occurrence, or even its mere presumption, does not regularly undergo official notification. We have examined legal investigative registers at the Instituto Médico-Legal do Rio de Janeiro - Sede set up from January to March 2000, including women, children and adolescents, with medico-legal histories suggestive of sexual assault.

Microspheres of polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) are exciting new soft-tissue fillers that are becoming increasing popular for facial rejuvenation. Some reports of side effects of this procedure are basically in respect to dermal reaction, with late-onset granulomatous lesion with giant cells and vacuoles. We report blindness and total ophthalmoplegia after PMMA injection into glabellar area in a healthy woman and review the literature.
