Bacterial pneumonia is a significant public health burden, contributing to substantial morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Current therapeutic strategies beyond antibiotics and adjuvant therapies are limited, highlighting the need for a deeper understanding of the disease pathogenesis. Here, we employed single-cell RNA sequencing of 444,146 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cells (BALFs) from a large cohort of 74 individuals, including 58 patients with mild (n = 22) and severe (n = 36) diseases as well as 16 healthy donors.

Article Synopsis
  • Staphylococcal enterotoxins, especially enterotoxin C (SEC), are major causes of food poisoning, with SEC frequently found in dairy products and linked to global outbreaks.
  • Researchers developed a chemiluminescent sandwich enzyme immunoassay (CLEIA) that can accurately detect SEC in a wide concentration range, with a very low detection limit and minimal cross-reactivity with other toxins.
  • The CLEIA method demonstrated high sensitivity and reliability in detecting SEC in different samples, suggesting it could significantly enhance public health and food safety efforts.

Lung cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Since the global outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, the impact of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on lung cancer has been extensively studied. Despite reports about SARS-CoV-2 infection inducing a significant increase in the number of medical visits for patients with cancer, the virus has also been reported to produce some unknown benefits.

Background: GPRIN1 may be a novel tumor regulator, but its role and mechanism in tumors are still unclear.

Methods: First, a pan-cancer correlation analysis was conducted on the expression and prognosis of GPRIN1 based on the data downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Second, the Starbase database was used to predict the upstream miRNAs and lncRNAs of GPRIN1, and the expression analysis, survival analysis, and correlation analysis were performed to screen the microRNA (miRNAs)/long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) that had a correlation with kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP) or lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).

Background: Salinization damages the health of soil systems and reduces crop yields. Responses of microbial communities to salinized soils and their functional maintenance under high salt stress are valuable scientific problems. Meanwhile, the microbial community of the salinized soil in the plateau environment is less understood.

Background: Long-term nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA) treatment can reverse liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis B (CHB), but its effect on fibrosis regression remains limited. Biejia-Ruangan (BR) has been approved in China as an antifibrotic traditional Chinese medicine drug in patients with chronic liver diseases. A multicenter randomized controlled trial aims to evaluate the effect of BR on fibrosis regression in CHB patients treated with NAs.
