Background: Cervical spinal cord injuries often necessitate ventilator support (VS). Prolonged endotracheal tube use has conveyed substantial morbidity in prospective study. Tracheostomy is recommended if VS is anticipated to be 7 days or longer, which defines prolonged ventilation (PV).
