Background: Type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been associated with increased risk of colon cancer (CC) and worse prognosis in patients with metastases. The effects of T2DM on postoperative chemoresistance rate (CRR) and long-term disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in patients with stage III CC who receive curative resection remain controversial.
Aim: To investigate whether T2DM or glycemic control is associated with worse postoperative survival outcomes in stage III CC.

Background: Anemia is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. However, there is little evidence regarding the relationship between hemoglobin (HB) and cerebral infarction after revascularization in patients with moyamoya disease (MMD). This study aimed to explore the relationship between postoperative cerebral infarction and HB in patients with MMD and to establish a predictive model.

Background: Rapid kilovolt (kV)-switching dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) has been increasingly applied to the measurement of lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) in humans and animal models. The objective of this study was to investigate the optimal parameters for the measurement of vertebral BMD. The BMD of the spinal model was measured by means of DECT in combination with different noise index (NI) and preset adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction Veo (ASiR-V) levels.

Introduction: X842 is a new type of gastric acid-suppressing agent with a rapid onset of action and a long duration of effect. We aim to investigate the efficacy and safety of different doses of X842 versus lansoprazole in the treatment of patients with erosive esophagitis (EE).
Methods: This phase 2 study included 90 patients with EE (Los Angeles grades A-D) who were randomized (1:1:1) to receive oral low-dose X842 (50 mg/day, n=31), high-dose X842 (100 mg/day, n=31), or lansoprazole (30 mg/day, n=30) for 4 weeks.

The blood flow, when restored clinically following a myocardial infarction (MI), disrupts the physiological and metabolic equilibrium of the ischemic myocardial area, resulting in secondary damage termed myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and inflammatory reactions stand as primary culprits behind MIRI. Current strategies focusing on ROS-scavenging and anti-inflammatory actions have limited remission of MIRI.

Nucleoporins, as major components of nuclear pore complex, have been recently discovered to participate in organ development. Here, we report a young female patient with nephrotic proteinuria resistant to immune suppressant treatment and congenital ovarian insufficiency. Renal pathology confirmed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and whole-exome sequencing revealed compound heterozygous mutations in Nucleoporin 160 (), NM_015231.

Aim: Given that electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment inhibits lactate production and lactate-derived lysine lactation (Kla) aggravates ischemic brain injury, we aimed to investigate whether the formation of Kla protein is involved in EA pretreatment to alleviate ischemic brain injury.
Methods: EA was performed on the Baihui acupoint (GV20) of male C57BL/6J mice before receiving the permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) surgery. Western blot and immunofluorescent staining were used to observe neuronal survival, astrocyte activation, and protein Kla levels, and the lactate levels in ischemic brains were assayed with a commercial kit.

This study aimed to explore whether SES is associated with the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR), nephropathy (DN) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) using large prospective cohort.
Methods: SES was evaluated using education attainment (individual level), household income (household level), and Townsend deprivation index (TDI, neighborhood level).

The present study employed a large scaled multicenter nationwide study data analysis to elucidate the impact of thromboembolism prophylaxis (TEP) in the context of bariatric and metabolic surgery and to investigate the peri- and postoperative complications associated with TEP. A total of 63,909 patients who underwent primary bariatric surgery between 2005 and 2020 were included in the analysis. The data were collected prospectively and multicentrically in the German Bariatric Surgery Registry (GBSR) and subsequently analyzed retrospectively.

Background: Multimodal treatment involving preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery is the current standard of care for rectal cancer. Despite advancements, the risk of recurrence, metastasis, and decreased survival remains high. This study aims to evaluate potential biomarkers to stratify prognosis in patients with rectal cancer undergoing preoperative CRT and surgery.

Background: Patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) usually have a poor prognosis, so it is critical to identify effective biomarkers for prognosis prediction. The aim of this study is to establish a nomogram to evaluate the prognostic significance of blood markers in patients with NSCLC and provide reference for clinical work.
Methods: A total of 486 patients with NSCLC who were admitted to hospital from January 2009 to December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.

Background: Ground-glass opacity (GGO) on computed tomography (CT) has been suggested as a potential prognostic factor in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), but its significance in patients with pathological stage IA3 LUAD, particularly in relation to micropapillary (MIP) status, remains unclear. This study addresses the clinical need to stratify patients based on GGO and MIP status to optimize prognosis prediction and follow-up strategies.
Methods: A multicenter retrospective study was conducted on 411 patients with pathological stage IA3 LUAD, enrolled between July 2012 and July 2020.

Purpose: Cardiac fibrosis, a key contributor to ventricular pathologic remodeling and heart failure, currently lacks effective therapeutic approaches.
Patients And Methods: Small extracellular vesicles from young healthy human plasma (Young-sEVs) were characterized via protein marker, transmission electron microscopy, and nanoparticle tracking analysis, then applied in cellular models and mouse models of cardiac fibrosis. Western blotting and qRT-PCR were used to identify protective signaling pathways in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs).

An 8-week regimen of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir is recommended for treatment-naïve patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC). In alignment with the Taiwanese government's objective to eliminate hepatitis C by 2025, this study aimed to provide real-world evidence on the use of this regimen in treatment-naïve patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) by using data from the Taiwan Association for the Study of the Liver HCV Registry (TACR). CKD was defined by an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of <60 mL/min/1.
