Patent Blue V (PBV) is extensively used in sentinel lymph node identification in cancer surgery, potentially leading to an increased incidence of hypersensitivity reactions. A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients with suspected PBV hypersensitivity, at our center from 2010 to 2023. Skin prick tests (SPT) were performed on all patients, followed by intradermal tests (IDT) if SPT was negative.

Preclinical Models of Atopic Dermatitis Suitable for Mechanistic and Therapeutic Investigations.

J Inflamm Res

October 2024

Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology, New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY, 10595, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a skin condition that makes the skin itchy, irritated, and not able to protect itself properly.
  • It often starts in childhood and can lead to other allergies and asthma as a person grows up, in something called the "atopic march."
  • Scientists use different models to study AD and find new treatments, but it's tough to create a model that shows all the real-life symptoms of the condition.

Article Synopsis
  • Angioedema (AE) is a condition characterized by localized swelling in tissues, and this study aimed to analyze the traits of patients with recurring AE that does not include wheals.
  • The research involved 143 adult patients and documented their demographics and laboratory results from outpatient visits between August 2018 and August 2020, with follow-ups occurring between October 2023 and January 2024 to check for remission.
  • Findings revealed variations in phenotypic characteristics among different AE subtypes, with notable differences in patients' medical histories and remission rates linked to specific triggers and underlying causes of AE.

Aim: Procedures, such as immunisation and venepuncture, can be distressing for paediatric patients, especially those with needle phobia and neurodevelopmental disorders. Procedural sedation helps provide access to equitable health care in this population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pilot outpatient procedural sedation clinics at the Women's and Children's Hospital and the impact on patient care and outcomes.

Hierarchical control of interleukin 13 (IL-13) signals in lung fibroblasts by STAT6 and SOX11.

J Biol Chem

September 2018

From the Division of Medical Biochemistry, Department of Biomolecular Sciences, Saga Medical School, Saga 849-8501, Japan,

Interleukin (IL)-13 is a signature cytokine of type 2 inflammation important for the pathogenesis of various diseases, including allergic diseases. Signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) 6 is a critical transcriptional factor for the IL-13 signals; however, it remains unknown how expression of the IL-13-induced genes is differentiated by the transcriptional machineries. In this study, we identified IL-13-induced transcriptional factors in lung fibroblasts using DNA microarrays in which SOX11 was included.

Objective: Patients with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) frequently experience relapses, which lead to cumulative organ damage. In this retrospective observational study, we aimed to reveal the risk factors for relapse in EGPA.

Methods: A total of 188 Japanese patients with EGPA diagnosed between 1996 and 2015 were identified from medical records in 10 hospitals.

From 26 to 28 of April 2016, an allergy awareness campaign was organized by the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the European Federation of Allergy and Airway Diseases Patients Associations in the European Parliament in Brussels, with support of the European Parliament's Interest group on Allergy and Asthma and was co-hosted by the Members of the European Parliament David Borrelli, Sirpa Pietikainen and Nessa Childers. Skin prick tests (SPTs) were performed to gain attention for the increasing prevalence of allergic airway diseases in Europe. Since more than 30% of the total European population suffers from airway allergies and asthma, reaching a higher level of awareness and elaboration of an active prevention plan is mandatory.

A substantial proportion of patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) are refractory to antihistamines. However, identifying the subpopulation whose urticaria is not completely controlled by antihistamines remains difficult. The response of autologous serum skin test (ASST), a clinical test for the detection of basophil histamine-releasing activity upon autoantibodies or autoreactive stimulation, has been suggested as a potential predictor in the control of urticaria.

Objective: Our prospective study aimed to demonstrate that the cumulative synovial power Doppler (PD) ultrasound scores correlate with radiographic progression better than conventional measures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We also investigated the difference between antirheumatic agents.

Methods: Sixty-nine patients with RA who had recently received either methotrexate (MTX; n = 23), tumor necrosis factor (TNF) antagonists (n = 28), or tocilizumab (TCZ; n = 18) were enrolled.
