Overexpression of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is found in 20-30% of breast cancer tumors (HER2-positive breast cancers) and is associated with more aggressive onset of disease, higher recurrence rate and increased mortality. Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) like trastuzumab and pertuzumab in combination with chemotherapeutics, and trastuzumab-based antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) are used in the clinic to treat these cancers. An alternative targeted strategy (not yet in clinical use) is the encapsulation of chemotherapeutic drugs in immunoliposomes.

α-Hydroxytropolones (αHTs) have potent antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus-1 and -2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) in cell culture, including against acyclovir-resistant mutants, and as a result have the potential to be developed as antiviral drugs targeting these viruses. We recently described a convenient final-step amidation strategy to their synthesis, and this was used to generate 57 amide-substituted αHTs that were tested against hepatitis B virus. The following manuscript describes the evaluation of this library against HSV-1, as well as a subset against HSV-2.

Unlabelled: Judgment is the ability to make sound decisions after consideration of relevant information, possible solutions, likely outcomes, and contextual factors. Loss of judgment is common in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. The Test of Practical Judgment (TOP-J) evaluates practical judgment in adults and the elderly, with 15- and 9-item versions that require individuals to listen to scenarios about everyday problems and report their solutions.

We compile a Mexican insular herpetofaunal checklist to estimate endemism, conservation status, island threats, net taxonomic turnover among six biogeographic provinces belonging to the Nearctic and Neotropical regions, and the relationships between island area and mainland distance versus species richness. We compile a checklist of insular herpetofaunal through performing a literature and collection review. We define the conservation status according to conservation Mexican law, the Red List of International Union for Conservation of Nature, and Environmental Vulnerability Scores.

We aimed to determine whether characterizing PEs could also provide a useful marker of early cognitive decline.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review of the literature, searching PsycInfo (Ebsco) and PubMed databases for articles studying PEs in aging and dementia populations.

We describe the preparation of gold(i)-compounds that are amenable to efficient bioconjugation with monoclonal antibodies via activated ester or maleimide linkers. New Trastuzumab-gold conjugates were synthesized and fully characterized. These bioconjugates are significantly more cytotoxic (sub-micromolar range) to HER2-positive breast cancer cells than the gold complexes and Trastuzumab.

The chemistry of singlet molecular oxygen [1O2 (1Delta g)], its importance in atmospheric, biological, and therapeutic processes, and its use as a reagent in organic synthesis have been of considerable interest. Many aspects of singlet oxygen chemistry have emanated from the work of Christopher S. Foote and co-workers.
