Cytarabine-AOT catanionic vesicle-loaded biodegradable thermosensitive hydrogel as an efficient cytarabine delivery system.

Int J Pharm

October 2014

School of Pharmaceutical Science and Center for Pharmaceutical Research & Drug Delivery Systems, Shandong University, 44 West Wenhua Road, Jinan, Shandong Province 250012, PR China. Electronic address:

Carrier with high drug loading content is one of the most important issues in drug delivery system. In the present work, an ion-pair amphiphilic molecule composed of anticancer drug cation and surfactant anion is used for straightforward fabricating vesicles for cancer therapy. Anticancer drug (cytarabine hydrochloride) and anionic surfactant (AOT) are selected for the fabrication of ion-pair amphiphilic molecule.

Background: Increase in expression of substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has been reported in clinical samples of tendinopathy.

Purpose: To examine the spatial-temporal expression of these neuropeptides as well as their association with activity-related tendon pain, matrix degeneration, failed healing, and pathologic calcification in an established collagenase-induced tendon injury rat model.

Study Design: Controlled laboratory study.

Goals Of Work: An oropharyngeal mucositis (OM)-specific health-related quality of life measure (OMQoL) has been developed to assess the impact of OM from the perspective of patients. The current paper describes the convergent, concurrent, and known-group validities and responsiveness in relation to clinical and health outcomes.

Materials And Methods: A multicenter approach was used, and 137 patients treated with different cancer therapies completed the OMQoL and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life questionnaire [EORTC QLQ-C30 (Ch)] twice over a 4-week period or weekly over a 7-week period, along with concurrent measures of OM and its related symptoms.

Subfascial endoscopic perforator vein surgery (SEPS) using the ultrasonic scalpel.

Department of Surgery, Prince of Wales Hospital, The Chinese University of HongKong, Shatin, N. T., Hong Kong.

Subfascial endoscopic perforator vein surgery (SEPS) was recently introduced as a minimally invasive method to ligate incompetent perforating veins in patients with severe chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities. Herein we describe a technique in which we used a 5-mm ultrasonic scalpel for the transection of perforating veins in 16 SEPS performed in 14 patients. The use of the ultrasonic scalpel allowed for the precise coagulation and transection of the perforator vein with hemostasis, while avoiding the use of metal clips.

Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Laboratory, The Chinese University of Hongkong, Shatin N.T.Hongkong.

A DNA probe for Trichosanthes trypsin inhibitor was amplified from the cDNA library of Trichosanthes kirilowii by polymerase chain reaction. Using this probe to screen the cDNA library, a full-length cDNA sequence of the inhibitor was obtained. The open reading frame encodes a Pre-Pro-inhibitor with Pre-, Pro, and mature peptides of 24, 14, and 27 residues, respectively.
