Optogenetics has revolutionized the landscape of research on neurological disorders by enabling high spatial specificity and millisecond-level temporal precision in neuroscience studies. In the field of traumatic brain injury (TBI), optogenetic techniques have greatly advanced our understanding of the pathological and physiological processes involved, providing valuable guidance for both monitoring and therapeutic interventions. This article offers a review of the latest research applications of optogenetics in the study of TBI.

As a kind of environmental noise, infrasonic noise has negative effects on various human organs. To date, research has shown that infrasound impairs cognitive function, especially the ability for learning and memory. Previously, we demonstrated that impaired learning and memory induced by infrasound was closely related with glia activation; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Background: Studies demonstrate that people who have been infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of COVID-19, have experienced cognitive dysfunction, including working memory impairment, executive dysfunction, and decreased concentration. This review aimed to explore the incidence of working memory impairment and possible concomitant symptoms in the acute phase (< 3 months) and chronic phase (> 6 months) of COVID-19.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review of the following databases for inception: MEDLINE Pub Med, Cochrane EMBASE, and Web of Science electronic databases.

Background: One of the most serious complications of sepsis is sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE), which impairs the cognition ability of survivors. Environmental enrichment (EE) has been demonstrated to alleviate cognition deficits under many kinds of brain injury conditions. However, EE's effects on SAE remain unknown.

With the development of industrialization in recent years, infrasound has become an important component of public noise. To date, diverse studies have revealed the negative effects of infrasound on the central nervous system (CNS), especially the learning and memory ability. It is widely reported that environmental enrichment (EE) ameliorates the learning and memory deficits in different models of brain injury.

Background: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) has been widely reported to be safe and feasible, and has a powerful effect on improving metabolism and weight loss in patients with a high body mass index (BMI). A few studies have focused on the comparison of RYGB with medical treatment in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with a lower BMI.
Objectives: To compare the metabolic effects and safety of RYGB versus medical treatment during a 2 years follow-up in T2D patients with a BMI of 25 to 32.

Purpose: To evaluate whether preoperative visceral fat-related indexes, such as visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), and metabolic score for visceral fat (METS-VF), are useful for predicting diabetes remission in Chinese patients with a BMI < 35 kg/m after bariatric surgery.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective, multicenter cohort study enrolled 177 patients. Binary logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to identify predictors and clinically useful cutoff values, respectively.

Background: As a severe complication of sepsis, sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) usually manifests as impaired learning and memory ability in survivors. Previous studies have reported that environmental enrichment (EE) can increase the learning and memory ability in different brain injury models. However, there has been no research on the possible positive effect of EE on SAE.

Background: The BRAF mutation is valuable for the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). However, studies related to this mutation have involved only a small number of patients. Therefore, we performed a large-scale analysis from a single institute to evaluate the accuracy of combined fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and BRAF mutation tests for PTC diagnosis.

Background: Current laboratory examinations for hypercoagulable diseases focus on the biomarker content of the activated coagulation cascade and fibrinolytic system. Direct detection of physiologically important protease activities in blood remains a challenge. This study aims to develop a general approach that enables the determination of activities of crucial coagulation factors and plasmin in blood.

To observe the histopathological manifestations of liver biopsy in patients with hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (HSOS) induced by pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA). Patients diagnosed with PA-HSOS from 2012 to 2017 were selected, and the general conditions, liver function indexes, medication history, liver biopsy time, histopathological slides of liver biopsy, and follow-up data of clinical prognosis after 6 months of onset were collected. Clinical staging with clinical data was used to observe the histopathological manifestations of patients at different clinical stages.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) represents a progressive disease characterized by abnormally high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery. Although mutations in the bone morphogenetic receptor 2 (BMPR2) are found in 80% of heritable, their low penetrance suggests that other unidentified genetic modifiers are required for this disease. In this report, whole-exome sequencing (WES) and a linkage analysis were performed on genomic DNA isolated from four affected relatives and one non-affected relative in two PAH families.

The aim of the present study was to determine the anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic effects of dihydromyricetin (DHM) on the AGS human gastric cancer cells and their underlying mechanisms. The effects of DHM on AGS cells were evaluated by using 3-(4, 5-di-methylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), lactate dehydrogenase, and Annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) double-staining assays. The underlying mechanisms were determined by using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.
