Background: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) method of staging melanoma is dated and inaccurate. It ignores important prognostic melanoma features, especially the patient's age. BAUSSS is more accurate in determining survival risk for primary cutaneous melanoma patients who have no clinical or imaging evidence of nodal or distant metastases.

Aim: To evaluate the suitability of serum osteocalcin (OC) as a marker to distinguish between rapidly and non-rapidly progressive central precocious puberty (RP-CPP and NRP-CPP), as well as its potential to assess growth rates following treatment with gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHa).
Methods: Serum levels of OC were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays in girls diagnosed with either RP-CPP or NRP-CPP as well as in normal control subjects. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the cut-off value for OC.

Introduction: The treatment of children with pelviureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) has naturally progressed from open, to minimally invasive approaches, including laparoscopic pyeloplasty and robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RALP). The RALP is now considered to be the gold standard for paediatric patients with PUJO, except for smaller infants due to size limitations. Our systematic review aims to synthesise all the available evidence regarding key postoperative outcomes for the three surgical approaches to pyeloplasties in children.

Objective: To review the available literature on variant genital gender-affirming surgery (GGAS), including the reasons for performing it, the surgeries themselves and their outcomes.
Methods: A systematic review on the performance of variant GGAS was conducted (International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews [PROSPERO] identifier: CRD42022306684) researching PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane databases from inception up to 31 December 2023. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed, and risk of bias was assessed for each study using the five-criteria quality assessment checklist.
Objectives: Our objective was to describe the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in people of African ancestry with HIV in the UK.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of CVD risk factors in Black people with HIV aged ≥40 years and estimated the 10-year CVD risk using QRISK®3-2018. Correlations between body mass index (BMI) and CVD risk factors were described using Pearson correlation coefficients, and factors associated with 10-year CVD risk ≥5% were described using logistic regression.

Many health-promoting effects have been attributed to the intake of probiotic cells. However, it is important that probiotic cells arrive at the site of their activity in a viable state in order to exert their beneficial effects. Careful selection of the appropriate probiotic formulation is therefore required as mainly the type of probiotic species/strain and the administration strategy may affect survival of the probiotic cells during the upper gastrointestinal (GIT) passage.

Background: The presenting symptoms of patients with Hirschsprung's disease (HD) are a failure to pass meconium, abdominal distension, and bilious vomiting. The gold standard diagnosis is a rectal biopsy to confirm aganglionosis. The aim of our study was to describe the diagnostic pathway of Hirschsprung's disease at our institution and document the indication for a rectal biopsy.

Pseudocirrhosis is a diffuse nodularity of the liver that radiologically mimics cirrhosis but is a distinct pathological process. It is seen almost exclusively in patients with liver metastases and may represent a response to systemic treatment. Data on the risk factors for pseudocirrhosis and outcomes are limited.

Background: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a serious public health issue in many countries. Online postal self-sampling (OPSS) is increasingly used to test for STIs, a trend accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. There remains limited understanding of how service users experience OPSS and what leads them to access it over clinic-based services, or vice versa.

The objective of this review was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of bedside-focused transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in acute atraumatic thoracic aortic syndrome in adults. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of publications that described the use of bedside-focused TTE on adults presenting to emergency care settings with suspected atraumatic thoracic aortic syndrome. Studies were identified using keyword and MeSH on relevant databases as well as grey literature, followed by abstract screening and study selection by two independent reviewers.

Purpose Of Review: Although current treatment could eradicate vertical transmission, in 2022, 130 000 infants acquired HIV globally. HIV suppression with antiretroviral therapy (ART) transforms survival for people living with HIV (PLWH), and prevents transmission, including vertical. International guidelines recommend lifelong ART for PLWH, consequently perinatal HIV acquisition reflects implementation gaps in the HIV care cascade.

Introduction: Individuals with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection now have life expectancies similar to non-infected people but face increased obesity prevalence. The long-term effects of bariatric surgery (BS) and conservative weight therapy (CWT) in patients living with HIV (PLWH) remain unexplored.
Methods: A retrospective review (2012-2018) at a Tertiary Centre for Bariatric Surgery and National Centre for HIV care examined the outcomes of BS and CWT.

Background: Given the significance of motor competence (MC) for healthy development and as a cornerstone for lifelong physical activity (PA), it is crucial to understand the manifold factors that are associated with MC. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate correlates of children's MC and their fundamental movement skills (FMS) within their daily life from a comprehensive biopsychosocial-ecological perspective.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional sub-study of the 'Physical Literacy for Communities (PL4C)' WAVES cohort study conducted in the West Vancouver School District, Canada.

Introduction: Outcome monitoring can identify fluctuations in healthcare. Cumulative sum (CUSUM) analysis can detect when mortality deviates from expected, allowing early intervention through targeted audit. We present a 10-year experience of the prospective use of CUSUM methodology in a regional burn centre.

Background And Aims: Short-term mortality in alcohol-related hepatitis (AH) is high, and no current therapy results in durable benefit. A role for interleukin (IL)-1β has been demonstrated in the pathogenesis of alcohol-induced steatohepatitis. This study explored the safety and efficacy of canakinumab (CAN), a monoclonal antibody targeting IL-1β, in the treatment of patients with AH.

Background: Digital self-management platforms have been proposed as a solution to better support people manage their musculoskeletal (MSK) condition. However, research studies often explicitly exclude people who can't access internet connected devices. An important consideration is that digital exclusion (for people without access to an internet connected device) from these new digital options will worsen already existing inequality and inequity in healthcare.

Background: By controlling hypercapnia, respiratory acidosis, and associated consequences, extracorporeal CO removal (ECCOR) has the potential to facilitate ultra-protective lung ventilation (UPLV) strategies and to decrease injury from mechanical ventilation. We convened a meeting of European intensivists and nephrologists and used a modified Delphi process to provide updated insights into the role of ECCOR in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and to identify recommendations for a future randomized controlled trial.
Results: The group agreed that lung protective ventilation and UPLV should have distinct definitions, with UPLV primarily defined by a tidal volume (V) of 4-6 mL/kg predicted body weight with a driving pressure (ΔP) ≤ 14-15 cmHO.

Aim: To provide a novel perspective on the pathogenesis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients with respect to glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT).
Methods: The plasma proteome of 20 patients with AMI were matched for age and sex and compared with 10 healthy individuals. We analyzed the mass spectrum data and compared the signal intensity of the corresponding peptides which related to their corresponding proteins.
