Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by recurring inflammatory disorders in digestive system, and devoid of effective treatment. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), stimulated via inflammation whose inhibition could decrease secretion of inflammatory factors. We then determined whether inhibition of PCSK9 could improve the inflammation.

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) is an intraepithelial precancerous lesion of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) that progresses from adenoma to carcinoma, and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) might be involved in the tumorigenesis. In this study, we obtained the expression profiles of more than 4000 lncRNAs by probe reannotation of a microarray dataset. As a correlation network-based systems biology method, weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to find clusters of highly correlated lncRNAs in the tumorigenesis of IPMN, which covered four stepwise stages from normal main pancreatic duct to invasive IPMN.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to dysregulate and involve in the pathology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Nonetheless, the functional role of lncRNA T cell leukemia/lymphoma 6 (TCL6) and its underlying mechanism in HCC remain unclear. Herein, we analyzed the expression of TCL6 and elucidated its mechanistic involvement in HCC.

Department of Endocrinology, the Central Hospital of Enshi Autonomous Prefecture, Enshi Clinical College of Wuhan University, Enshi, 445000, China.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the major heart complications of diabetic patients. Hydrogen sulfide (HS) is now recognized as an important signaling molecule and has been shown to attenuate the development of diabetic cardiomyopathy. However, the underlying mechanisms linking HS and the development of DCM have not been fully elucidated.

Objective: The suppressors of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) negatively regulates the JAK-STAT pathway. The bioinformatics analysis revealed a targeted binding site between miR-221 and the 3'-UTR of SOCS3 mRNA. This study investigated the role of miR-221 in the proliferation and apoptosis of gastric cancer cells.

Background: The anticancer effects of cordyceps on various tumors have been reported. However, little is known about the role of selenium (Se)-enriched in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study, the effects of Se-enriched on cell proliferation, cell apoptosis and cell cycle in NSCLC cell line NCI-H292 and A549 were investigated.

Background: The main purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between the expression of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) HAGLR in plasma exosomes and the detection rate of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: LncRNA HAGLR expression was detected in plasma exosomes of 40 patients with NSCLC and 8 healthy subjects using qRT-PCR. CTCs were enriched and separated using CTC-BIOPSY abnormal cell separator.

Article Synopsis
  • Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation negatively affect retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells, contributing to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), with 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) being a significant harmful byproduct.
  • The study found that 4-HNE increases the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α in RPE cells, with low concentrations also promoting IL-10 and TGF-β.
  • HSP70, an intracellular protein, can inhibit the production of these pro-inflammatory cytokines, and treatments that modify HSP70 levels—both increasing and inhibiting its release—show potential in managing inflammation caused

Backgrounds And Aims: Microsatellite instability (MSI) is one of the promising biomarkers in human colorectal cancers (CRCs), and it is influenced by an intricate gene interaction network. Hence, we aimed to identify and validate hub genes associated with MSI CRC and to illustrate its underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to investigate potential regulatory targets and relationships between key modules and hub genes associated with MSI CRC.

Immune infiltration of tumors has been increasingly accepted as a prognostic factor in colon cancer. Here, we aim to develop a novel immune signature, based on estimated immune landscape from tumor transcriptomes, to predict the overall survival of patients with colon cancer. The compositions of 22 immune cell subtypes from three microarray datasets were characterized with the CIBERSORT deconvolution algorithm.

June 2019

Department of Ophthalmology, the Central Hospital of Enshi Autonomous Prefecture, Enshi Clinical College of Wuhan University, Enshi 445000, Hubei Province, China.

Aim: To detect the pathogenetic mutations responsible for nonsyndromic autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (RP) in 2 nonconsanguineous Chinese families.

Methods: The clinical data, including detailed medical history, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), slit-lamp biomicroscope examination, fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, static perimetry, and full field electroretinogram, were collected from the members of 2 nonconsanguineous Chinese families preliminarily diagnosed with RP. Genomic DNA was extracted from the probands and other available family members; whole-exome sequencing was conducted with the DNA samples provided by the probands, and all mutations detected by whole-exome sequencing were verified using Sanger sequencing in the probands and the other available family members.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is the leading cause of human death, and it is widely accepted that the runaway inflammation is an important risk for the development of ALI. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of miR-16 on lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury in mice, especially focusing on Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and NF-kB signaling pathway as well as NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation. We established in vivo and in vitro model of ALI using LPS and demonstrated that miR-16 expression was down-regulated in lung tissue as well as A549 cells after 8 h of LPS treatment.
