Sphingolipids, particularly sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), are bioactive lipids involved in regulating cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis, inflammation, and tumor progression. Alkaline ceramidase 2 (ACER2) plays a critical role in sphingolipid metabolism by catalyzing the hydrolysis of ceramide to sphingosine, which is subsequently converted to S1P. Dysregulation of ACER2 has been implicated in various gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

This study aimed to explore the role of the growth arrest-specific five gene (GAS5) long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) during the development of osteoarthritis (OA). A total of 25 OA synovial tissues and nine healthy control tissues were collected, and their GAS5 expression was compared. To confirm GAS5 expression in vitro, interleukin (IL)-1β was used to mimic a cellular OA model based on isolated FLSs.

Background: The treatment of recurrent tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma (TACC), a rare pulmonary malignant tumor, typically involves bronchoscopic interventional therapy for patients ineligible for surgery or external radiotherapy. This report describes an innovative treatment approach for TACC, initially managed with interventional bronchoscopy and subsequently with a Y-shaped airway stent loaded with I seeds, following recurrence after 2 years.
Case Presentation: A 50-year-old man presented with intermittent coughing for 2 months and was admitted to the hospital after the discovery of TACC a month earlier.

Objective: Imbalances in liver lipid metabolism and inflammatory reactions driven by oxidized lipid deposition in blood vessels constitute the core of atherosclerosis. Insufficient degradation of cholesterol in the liver promotes oxidative modification of lipid particles and their deposition on the blood vessel wall in the peripheral circulation. The blood vessel wall engulfs and processes oxidized low-density lipoprotein (Ox-LDL) as foreign matter through pattern recognition receptors, ultimately forming lipid-encapsulated plaques.

Background: Studies have found that RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are participated in the occurrence or development of tumours. However, the role of processing of precursor family (POP family) in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) has not been studied yet. Here, we analyzed the expression and prognostic value of POP family in ccRCC analyzed and subsequently revealed the relationship between POP7 and immune infiltration in ccRCC patients.

The study aims to examine the effect of FABP4 on inflammatory response and angiogenesis in the cell model of atherosclerosis and to explore its potential mechanism.Using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting, the mRNA and protein levels of FABP4 in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or oxidized low-density lipoprotein for 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours were measured. To silence FABP4 expression and NF-κB signaling in HUVECs, FABP4 inhibitor and NF-κB inhibitor were utilized.

Purpose: To explore the neurovascular mechanisms of white matter hyperintensities (WMHs)-related cognitive impairment by introducing a neurovascular biomarker, neurovascular coupling (NVC).
Methods: We applied resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging combined with arterial spin labeling to investigate the NVC dysfunctional patterns in patients with pure WMHs. Partial correlation, mediation, and exploratory subgroup analyses were adopted to explore the relationship among WMHs, NVC dysfunction, and cognitive decline.

Background: To explore the relationship of insulin resistance (IR) with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals without diabetes.
Methods: We performed a cross-sectional survey among 2142 community-based participants without diabetes from southern China from June to October 2012 and excluded the incomplete data. We divided all the participants into four groups according to the quartiles of homeostasis model assessment of IR (HOMA-IR).

Objective: To identify newly diagnosed patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) based on radiomics and clinical features.
Methods: A radiomics approach was used to combine clinical features with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features extracted by the ResNet-18 deep learning model to predict DRE. Three machine learning classifiers were built, and k-fold cross-validation was used to assess the classifier outcomes, and other evaluation metrics of accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, F1 score, and area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the performance of these models.

This study aims to (1) analyze the clinical characteristics and risk factors of patients with type 2 diabetes and comorbid depression and (2) explore the association between SIRT1 gene single-nucleotide polymorphism sites and this comorbidity. A total of 450 type 2 diabetes patients hospitalized in the General Medicine Department at The Central Hospital of Wuhan, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from July 2022 to September 2023, and 300 healthy individuals from the physical examination department were selected as study subjects. Both groups were assessed using general information surveys and questionnaires.

This study aimed to assess the effects of individualized dietary programs provided by nurses on the nutrition and micro-inflammation of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). This study employed the convenience sampling method for selecting participants. Accordingly, 60 patients undergoing PD who visited a PD center from January to June 2022 were selected as the control group, and 60 patients undergoing PD who visited the same PD center from November 2022 to April 2023 were selected as the intervention group.

Background: Malnutrition is a prevalent complication in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). This study established a multidisciplinary team for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to investigate the impact of this approach on enhancing the nutrition, anemic, and microinflammatory status of patients receiving PD.
Methods: This randomized controlled trial study involved 81 patients undergoing PD (n = 41 in the intervention group, n = 40 in the control group).

Meiosis in males is a critical process that ensures complete spermatogenesis and genetic diversity. However, the key regulators involved in this process and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we report an essential role of the mA methyltransferase METTL16 in meiotic sex chromosome inactivation (MSCI), double-strand break (DSB) formation, homologous recombination and SYCP1 deposition during male meiosis.

Olfactory impairment in the elderly has been shown to be associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline, and oxidative stress may be involved in this process. Dietary magnesium (Mg), as an antioxidant dietary nutrient, has been reported to be associated with cognitive decline. This study aimed to explore the effect of dietary Mg intake on cognitive decline related to olfactory impairment in older adults.

Introduction: Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most common hereditary cerebral small vessel disease with slow natural progression. Ischemic stroke and cognitive impairment are its most common clinical symptoms. Here, we report a rare 50-year-old woman who had rapid disease progression with c.
