Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at ECU Health and the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina. Electronic address:

As molecularly informed oncology care has increasingly become standard practice for patients with cancer, society must prioritize equitable access to genetic testing that guides subsequent care. Despite the availability of genomic testing laboratories, published guidelines, US Food and Drug Administration-approved targeted therapies, financial assistance programs, and clinical decision tools, precision medicine remains out of reach for many patients. While there has been modest improvement in testing rates in recent years, molecular testing and targeted therapy for cancer patients continue to vary by practice setting and patient insurance status, and racial and socioeconomic disparities persist.

WNK1 is an important regulator in many physiological functions, yet its role in male reproduction is unexplored. In the male germline, WNK1 is upregulated in preleptotene spermatocytes indicating possible function(s) in spermatogenic meiosis. Indeed, deletion of in mid-pachytene spermatocytes using the mouse led to male sterility which resembled non-obstructive azoospermia in humans, where germ cells failed to complete spermatogenesis and produced no sperm.

Introduction: Local tumor invasion depth has been associated with lymph node metastasis in urothelial carcinoma, and, for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC), pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) is a critical step in curative surgery. Gold standard treatment includes radical cystectomy (RC), but partial cystectomy (PC) is an important bladder-preserving modality reserved for patients with certain favorable prognostic indicators. There is poor evidence concerning the utility of PLND in PC and we seek to further define its role by comparing survival outcomes when PLND was cursory or omitted.
