MR-guided focal cryoablation of prostate cancer has often been selected as a minimally-invasive treatment option. Placing multiple cryo-needles accurately to form an ablation volume that adequately covers the target volume is crucial for better oncological/functional outcomes. This paper presents an MRI-compatible system combining a motorized tilting grid template with insertion depth sensing capabilities, enabling the physician to precisely place the cryo-needles into the desired location.

Precision medicine is an integrative approach to cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment that considers an individual's genetics, lifestyle, and exposures as determinants of their cardiovascular health and disease phenotypes. This focus overcomes the limitations of reductionism in medicine, which presumes that all patients with the same signs of disease share a common pathophenotype and, therefore, should be treated similarly. Precision medicine incorporates standard clinical and health record data with advanced panomics (ie, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and microbiomics) for deep phenotyping.

Background: Few studies have focused on racial and ethnic differences in advance care planning other than advance directives among population-based samples of adults across the lifespan.
Methods: Using data from a statewide random-digit dial telephone survey of adults 18 years or older (n = 1851), we investigated racial and ethnic differences in (1) designation of a healthcare agent (HCA); and (2) communication of goals, values, and preferences for end-of-life care with healthcare providers, a HCA, or other family members and friends.
Results: Less than half (44%, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 41.

Background: In older patients, thyroid nodules are frequently detected and referred for evaluation, though usually prove to be benign disease or low-risk cancer. Therefore, management should be guided not solely by malignancy risk, but also by the relative risks of any intervention. Unfortunately, few such data are available for patients ≥70 years old.

Purpose Of Review: The current review focuses on the uncertainty regarding the management of rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog RAS-positive thyroid nodules. The application of oncogene testing has been heralded for improving risk assessment for indeterminate cytology thyroid nodules and has grown in clinical use. RAS mutations are historically considered oncogenic.

Background: Thyroid nodules with atypia of undetermined significance (AUS) on fine-needle aspiration (FNA) have a low risk of malignancy that appears to vary based on specific features described in the AUS diagnosis. The Afirma gene expression classifier (GEC) is a molecular test designed to improve preoperative risk stratification of thyroid nodules, but its performance for different patterns of AUS has not been defined. The objective of this study was to assess GEC results and clinical outcomes in AUS nodules with architectural atypia (AUS-A), cytologic atypia (AUS-C) or both (AUS-C/A).

Objectives: To review the contributions of the Nurses' Health Studies (NHSs) to the understanding of cardiovascular disease etiology in women.
Methods: We performed a narrative review of the publications of the NHS and NHS II between 1976 and 2016.
Results: Diets low in trans fat, saturated fat, refined carbohydrates, and sugar-sweetened beverages and rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and sources of unsaturated fats are associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Objective: Research on the manifestations and health correlates of eating disorder symptoms among males is lacking. This study identified patterns of appearance concerns and eating disorder behaviors from adolescence through young adulthood and their health correlates.
Method: Participants were 7,067 males from the prospective Growing Up Today Study.

Background: Use of laxatives for weight loss and drugs or supplements to build muscle (eg, steroids) differs by gender and sexual orientation; little is known about factors contributing to these disparities. Conformity to gender norms concerning appearance could underlie these differences.
Methods: This study examined associations between childhood gender conformity and laxative and muscle-building product use from ages 13 to 25 years in a sample of 13 683 males and females in the US prospective Growing Up Today Study.

Evaluation of time trends in dietary quality and their relation to disease burden provides essential feedback for policy making. We used an index titled the Alternate Healthy Eating Index 2010 to evaluate trends in dietary quality among 33,885 US adults. From 1999 to 2012 the index increased from 39.

Background: Oncogenic mutations are common in thyroid cancers. While the frequently detected RAS-oncogene mutations have been studied for diagnostic use in cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules, no investigation has studied such mutations in an unselected population of thyroid nodules. No long-term study of RAS-positive thyroid nodules has been performed.

A new study identifies SPRY4 as a tumor suppressor in acute myeloid leukemia and shows that loss of SPRY4 acts as an alternative mechanism to drive RAS signaling. In addition, a paradigm of cooperativity in which combined loss of multiple negative regulators of the RAS pathway supplants the need for RAS mutations is suggested.

The past 2 decades have witnessed the introduction and demise of several different antithrombotic medications for acute coronary syndromes. Part of the assessment of these compounds has been their effect on thrombotic events relative to the degree of increase in bleeding events. This review will outline the data supporting various antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapies and their combinations in patients with acute coronary syndromes and related disorders in both the acute and chronic phases of therapy.

Introduction: The optimal timing for repeat evaluation of a cytologically benign thyroid nodule greater than 1 cm is uncertain. Arguably, the most important determinant is the disease-specific mortality resulting from an undetected thyroid cancer. Presently there exist no data that evaluate this important end point.

Background: Increasingly, patients with thyroid nodule cytology labeled atypical (or follicular lesion) of undetermined significance (AUS/FLUS) or follicular neoplasm (FN) undergo diagnostic analysis with the Afirma gene expression classifier (GEC). No long-term, multisite analysis of Afirma GEC performance has yet been performed.
Methods: We analyzed all patients who had received Afirma GEC testing at five academic medical centers between 2010 and 2013.
