Self-distillation methods utilize Kullback-Leibler divergence (KL) loss to transfer the knowledge from the network itself, which can improve the model performance without increasing computational resources and complexity. However, when applied to salient object detection (SOD), it is difficult to effectively transfer knowledge using KL. In order to improve SOD model performance without increasing computational resources, a non-negative feedback self-distillation method is proposed.

Purpose: The incidence of orbital blowout fractures (OBFs) is gradually increasing due to traffic accidents, sports injuries, and ocular trauma. Orbital computed tomography (CT) is crucial for accurate clinical diagnosis. In this study, we built an artificial intelligence (AI) system based on two available deep learning networks (DenseNet-169 and UNet) for fracture identification, fracture side distinguishment, and fracture area segmentation.

Front Cell Dev Biol

November 2022

The Eye Hospital, School of Ophthalmology & Optometry, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China.

Orbital and eyelid disorders affect normal visual functions and facial appearance, and precise oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeries are crucial. Artificial intelligence (AI) network models exhibit a remarkable ability to analyze large sets of medical images to locate lesions. Currently, AI-based technology can automatically diagnose and grade orbital and eyelid diseases, such as thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO), as well as measure eyelid morphological parameters based on external ocular photographs to assist surgical strategies.

South Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou), Guangzhou, 511458, China; School of Ecology, Environment, and Resources, Guangdong University of Technology, Guangzhou, 510006, China. Electronic address:

Both microplastic and biofilm are contamination sources in drinking water, but their integrated impacts on water quality have been rarely studied, especially in drinking water distribution pipes with complex hydraulic conditions. This study explored the impacts of hydraulic conditions (0-2 m/s) on microplastic biofilm (MP-BM) development, shear stresses distribution, and microbial community structures. The research was conducted for two weeks using a pilot test device to simulate practical water pipes.

After wars, some unexploded bombs remained underground, and these faulty bombs seriously threaten the safety of people. The ability to accurately identify targets is crucial for subsequent mining work. A deep learning algorithm is used to recognize targets, which significantly improves recognition accuracy compared with the traditional recognition algorithm for measuring the magnetic moment of the target and the included geomagnetism angle.

Possibility of human exposure to microplastics (MPs) in water environment has been escalating, and subsequent challenges of MPs to biostability and biosafety in drinking water deserve more attention, especially in stagnant water. The present study explored the integrated impacts of MPs and chlorine on disinfection kinetics, microbial growth, and microbial community formation in drinking water, by setting MPs or microplastic-biofilm (MP-BM) under different disinfection conditions. The following were the primary conclusions: (1) The presence of MP and MP-BM led to the deterioration of water indices (especially turbidity) when chlorine was less than 1 mg/L.

NiMnO Anchored on Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanosheets: A New High-Performance Microwave Absorbing Material.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

March 2022

State Key Laboratory for Disaster Prevention & Mitigation of Explosion & Impact, The Army Engineering University of PLA, Nanjing 210007, China.

With the increasing influence of electromagnetic radiation on precision instruments and organisms, there is an urgent need for research on lightweight and high-strength electromagnetic wave absorbing materials. This study has probed into a new composite absorbing material based on reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-NiMnO, where the like-core-shell NiMnO is anchored on the rGO nanosheets to significantly improve the electromagnetic wave dissipation ability of the composite material using the inter-component dipole polarization and interface polarization. At the same time, NiMnO can effectively adjust the impedance matching ratio of rGO so that electromagnetic waves can effectively enter the absorbing material.

High-volume training followed by inadequate recovery may cause overtraining. This process may undermine the protective effect of regular exercise on the cardiovascular system and may increase the risk of pathological cardiac remodelling. We evaluated whether chronic overtraining changes cardiac-related microRNA profiles in the left and right ventricles.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging pollutants as vectors for microbial colonization, but their role as nutrients sources for microbial communities has rarely been reported. This study explored the impact of six types of MPs on assimilable organic carbon (AOC) and microbial communities over eight weeks. The following were the primary conclusions: (1) MPs contributed to AOC increment and subsequently increased bacterial regrowth potential.

A novel CoS@FeO@rGO aerogel with a unique 3D porous heterostructure was prepared via the solvothermal method, in which cobalt sulfide (CoS) microspheres embedded with FeO nanoparticles were randomly scattered on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) flakes. The introduction of magnetic FeO nanoparticles and rGO regulated the impedance matching, and the excellent electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption capability of the CoS@FeO@rGO aerogel could be attributed to optimal dielectric loss and abundant conductive networks. The results demonstrated that the minimum reflection loss (RL) value of CoS@FeO@rGO aerogel was -60.

As a typical two-dimensional material, MXene possesses excellent conductivity and tunable interlayer space, which makes it have an impressive development potential in the field of electromagnetic (EM) waves absorbing materials. In this work, we fabricated a sandwich structure CoS@TiCT composite using a simple solvothermal process. The CoS nanoparticles are anchored on the TiCT MXene sheets, forming a heterolayered structure.

Cobalt sulfide composites have exhibited great potential in terms of microwave absorption, owing to their low price, relatively high capacitance, and excellent electrocatalytic activity. Thus, a novel core-shell like structure comprising cobalt sulfide@polypyrrole (CoS@PPy) composite was synthesized by a facile solvothermal synthesis method and in situ polymerization. When coated by the heterostructure polypyrrole aerogel, CoS@PPy composite exhibited excellent microwave absorption properties with an optimal reflection loss (R) of -41.

Fuzzy risk assessment of a deeply buried tunnel under incomplete information.

R Soc Open Sci

October 2018

State Key Laboratory of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of Explosion and Impact, The Army Engineering University of PLA, Nanjing 210007, People's Republic of China.

Risk assessment has always been an important part of safety risk research in tunnel and underground engineering. Owing to the characteristics of tunnel construction, to achieve an expected risk control effect, it is necessary to carry out accurate risk assessment research according to the risk assessment concept based on the entire tunnel construction process. At present, because of the frequent occurrences of safety accidents, a variety of risk assessment models have been proposed for different tunnel projects such as subways and railway tunnels, which can be roughly classified into two types: probability-based and fuzzy set theories.
