Liver diseases are classified as acute liver damage and chronic liver disease, with recurring liver damage causing liver fibrosis and progression to cirrhosis and hepatoma. Liver transplantation is the only effective treatment for end-stage liver diseases; therefore, novel therapies are required. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are endogenous nanocarriers involved in cell-to-cell communication that play important roles in immune regulation, tissue repair and regeneration.

Background: Based on PACIFIC trial, durvalumab as consolidation therapy following concurrent chemoradiotherapy (cCRT) has been a new standard treatment for unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In clinical applications, there are heterogeneous adjustments or novel strategies following specialized discussions in experienced multidisciplinary teams. This study retrospectively compared the efficacy and safety of different first-line treatments for unresectable stage III NSCLC.

Background: Stem cell transplantation shows great potential to improve the long-term survival of cirrhosis patients. However, therapeutic effects may not be homogeneous across the whole study population. This study constructed an easy-to-use nomogram to improve prognostic prediction and aid in treatment decision making for cirrhotic patients.

Background: Hospice and Palliative Care (HPC) is in high demand in China; however, the country is facing the shortage of qualified HPC nurses. A well-suited competence framework is needed to promote HPC human resource development. Nevertheless, existing unstandardized single-structured frameworks may not be sufficient to meet this need.

Genetic factors play an important role in susceptibility to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Alternative splicing (AS) is an essential mechanism affecting gene expression associated with disease pathogenesis at the post-transcriptional level, but has rarely been studied in NIHL. To explore the role of AS in the development of NIHL, we performed a comprehensive analysis of RNA splicing alterations by comparing the RNA-seq data from blood samples from NIHL patients and subjects with normal hearing who were exposed to the same noise environment.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common pregnancy-related complication and growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) is involved in a number of diseases; therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the level and clinical significance of serum GDF-15 levels in patients with GDM. A total of 237 pregnant women at 20-24 weeks of gestation were selected and assigned to a normal pregnancy group (70 patients) and a GDM group (167 patients) according to the presence or absence of GDM. The general clinical data of the two groups were collected.

Photothermal therapy (PTT) in combination with other treatment modalities has shown great potential to activate immunotherapy against tumor metastasis. However, the nanoparticles (NPs) that generate PTT have served as the photothermal agent only. Moreover, researchers have widely utilized highly immunogenic tumor models to evaluate the immune response of these NPs thus giving over-optimistic results.

Background: Despite emerging evidence on the therapeutic potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for liver fibrosis, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. At present, MSC-derived exosomes (MSC-EXOs) are widely accepted as crucial messengers for intercellular communication. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic effects of MSC-EXOs on liver fibrosis and identify the mechanisms underlying the action of MSC-EXOs.

Monocyte locomotion inhibitory factor (MLIF) is a heat-stable pentapeptide from . Our previous study found that MLIF protects against ischemic stroke in rats and mice and exerts a neuroprotection effect in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. Microglia/macrophage polarization has been proven to be vital in the pathology of ischemic stroke.

Because China is becoming an aging society, the incidence of diabetes and diabetic foot have been increasing. Diabetic foot has become one of the main health-related killers due to its high disability and mortality rates. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is one of the most effective techniques for the treatment of diabetic foot wounds and great progress, both in terms of research and its clinical application, has been made in the last 20 years of its development.

The characteristics of COVID-19 patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRD) have rarely been reported. Patients with AIRD have suppressed immune defense function, which may increase their susceptibility to COVID-19. However, the immunosuppressive agents AIRD patients routinely used may be beneficial for protecting the cytokine storm caused by SARS-CoV-2.
