Purpose Of Review: To summarize selected late-breaking science on cardiovascular (CV) disease prevention presented at the 2024 Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) conference.
Recent Findings: The LIBerate-HR trial showed the efficacy and safety of lerodalcibep, a subcutaneous injection that prevents binding of Pro-Protein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin (PCSK) 9 to low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptors resulting in LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) lowering in patients at very high risk or high risk of atherosclerotic CV disease (ASCVD). The AEGIS-II randomized patients with type 1 myocardial infarction (MI) with multivessel coronary artery disease and additional CV risk factors and found no benefit in major adverse CV events (MACE) with CSL112, an apolipoprotein A1 infusion shown to increase cholesterol efflux capacity.

Background: Since 2000, only a few countries have substantially reduced the burden of anemia among women 15-49 y of age. The Exemplars in Anemia Reduction among Women of Reproductive Age (WRA) studied the determinants of success among these countries.
Objectives: To describe the methodology used to determine the factors associated with anemia reduction in high-performing countries, with the aim to guide policy and programmatic decisions in other countries with similar sociodemographic and health indices.

The diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease only on the basis of laboratory parameter score such as Hepatic Steatosis Index which includes liver enzymes, gender, basal metabolic index, and presence of diabetic mellitus is not sufficient to exclude other causes of deranged liver enzymes especially medications and autoimmune related liver diseases. As the guideline suggests ultrasound is the preferred first-line diagnostic procedure for imaging of NAFLD, as it provides additional diagnostic information and the combination of biomarkers/scores and transient elastography might confer additional diagnostic accuracy and evident from previous similar studies too.

While dealing with patients having concentric duodenal thickening resulting in stricture formation, one should think of inflammatory etiology as well. IgG4-related disease is one of these inflammatory disorders where we see soft tissue thickening without a large mass or any associated lymphadenopathy as in our case.

Background: Decentralization of a health system is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon that demands thorough investigation of its process logistics, predisposing factors and implementation mechanisms, within the broader socio-political environment of each nation. Despite its wide adoption across both high-income countries (HICs) and low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs), empirical evidence of whether decentralization actually translates into improved health system performance remains inconclusive and controversial. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive description of the decentralization processes in three countries at different stages of their decentralization strategies - Pakistan, Brazil and Portugal.

Background: The Liliequist membrane (LM) represents a crucial yet challenging anatomical structure in neuroanatomy. First observed in 1875 and later elucidated by Bengt Liliequist in 1956, the LM's precise anatomical description and boundaries remain complex. Its significance extends to neurosurgery, impacting various procedures like endoscopic third ventriculocisternostomies, aneurysm and tumor surgeries, treatment of suprasellar arachnoid cysts, and managing perimesencephalic hemorrhages.

Introduction: Although sexual health has been holistically defined to include sexual satisfaction, it has been largely absent in health services and sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes in many parts of the world. We propose sexual satisfaction as a useful indicator, as one of the proxy measures for sexual health and well-being and as a component of well-being in general.

Background: Oncotype-Dx (ODx) is a 21-gene assay used as a prognostic and predictive tool for hormone receptor (HR)-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative, node-negative, or 1 to 3 lymph node-positive early breast cancers (EBCs). The cost of the test, which is not available in low-middle income countries (LMICs), is not within the means of most individuals. The Ki-67 index is a marker of tumor proliferation that is cost-effective and easily performed and has been substituted in many cases to obtain prognostic information.

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are a clinically and genetically heterogeneous group of early-onset pediatric disorders that affect the structure and/or function of the central or peripheral nervous system. Achieving a precise molecular diagnosis for NDDs may be challenging due to the diverse genetic underpinnings and clinical variability. In the current study, we investigated the underlying genetic cause(s) of NDDs in four unrelated Pakistani families.
