Purpose: The aim of the study is to construct two nomograms for predicting the invasive extent of pulmonary adenocarcinoma and nodule growth in patients with pulmonary pure ground-glass nodules (pGGN).
Method: Consecutive patients with pGGNs (n = 172) were retrospectively studied at one institution, formed the development cohort in predicting IPAs' nomogram. A separate cohort of patients with pGGNs (n = 116) from another institution was used for validation.

Cabozantinib has been shown to have potent anti-ROS1 activity in many solid malignancies, particularly against those with solvent-front resistance mutations following crizotinib therapy. With regard to the most common fusion, the efficacy of cabozantinib has only been demonstrated in vitro. Therefore, we evaluate the efficacy of cabozantinib in a patient with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring a fusion in the present study.

MTA1, SOX4, EZH2, and TGF-β are all potent inducers of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer; however, the signaling relationship among these molecules in EMT is poorly understood. Here, we investigated the function of MTA1 in cancer cells and demonstrated that MTA1 overexpression efficiently activates EMT. This activation resulted in a significant increase in the migratory and invasive properties of three different cancer cell lines through a common mechanism involving SOX4 activation, screened from a gene expression profiling analysis.

The main event in the progression of pulmonary fibrosis is the appearance of myofibroblasts. Recent evidence supports pericytes as a major source of myofibroblasts. TGFβ/Smad2/3 and PDGF/Erk signaling pathways are important for regulating pericyte activation.

The cardiotoxicity of doxorubicin (DOX) limits its clinical use in the treatment of a variety of solid tumors and malignant hematologic disease. However, the mechanism by which it causes cardiotoxicity is not fully understood. Apoptosis has been regarded as one of mechanisms underlying the cardiotoxic effects of DOX.

Purpose: To investigate whether circ-100219 could promote the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells by upregulating NTRK3 after binding to microRNA-485-3p, thus participating in the development of breast cancer.
Methods: Breast cancer cell lines MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-549 and human mammary epithelial cells were cultured. The expression levels of circ-100219, microRNA-485-3p and NTRK3 in breast cancer and paracancer tissues were determined using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

Side-branch occlusion is a serious complication of provisional one-stent strategies used to treat coronary bifurcation lesions. The aim of the study was to compare the short- and long-term clinical outcomes between the balloon-stent kissing technique (BSKT) and jailed wire technique (JWT) in patients with non-left coronary bifurcation lesions. This prospective, double-blinded, randomized controlled study enrolled 89 consecutive patients (aged 18-85 years) with 90 true bifurcation lesions (hemadostenosis ≥70%; bifurcation angle <90°; Medina classification 1.

Our study determined the toxic effects of zinc oxide (ZnO) particles with different diameters on dopaminergic (DA) neurons, the role of ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1) for ZnO particles-induced neurotoxicity, and corresponding molecular mechanisms. We constructed an in vitro cell injury model for DA neurons to analyze the cytotoxicity of ZnO particles using SH-SY5Y cells. Following cell viability assays and flow cytometry, we found that the cytotoxicity of ZnO particles was affected by particle size, time, and dose of exposure.

Transforming growth factor β1 (TGF‑β1) has been suggested to be a candidate cytokine in the field of bone tissue engineering. Cytokines serve important roles in tissue engineering, particularly in the repair of bone damage; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In the present study, the effects of TGF‑β1 on the osteogenesis and motility of hFOB1.

Purpose: To investigate whether single femoral, single tibial tunnel anatomic double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is equal to or superior to double femoral, double tibial tunnel ACL double-bundle anatomic reconstruction in terms of restoring the stability and functions of the knee joint.
Methods: A prospective clinical study was performed to compare 30 cases of single-tunnel ACL double-bundle anatomic reconstruction to 28 cases of double-tunnel ACL double-bundle anatomic reconstruction, with average follow-up of 36 months. All graft tendons were hamstring tendon autografts.

There are increasing reports of a type of lung cancer that manifests as solitary cystic airspaces. The purpose of this case series was to identify the CT features and possible mechanisms of solitary cystic lung cancer, on the basis of CT observations and pathologic characteristics. The clinical, imaging, and pathologic data of 106 patients with solitary cystic lung cancer were collected and analyzed between January 2011 and December 2017.

Primary appendiceal adenocarcinoma with peritoneal pseudomyxoma (PPM) has a high recurrence rate and refractory to medical interventions such as repetitive debulking surgery and systemic chemotherapy. Genome-based targeted therapy for such cases has not been well-documented. Here we present a 63-years-old women, who was diagnosed with recurrent mucinous adenocarcinoma of the appendix with local invasions and peritoneal carcinomatosis, was refractory to systemic chemotherapy after surgery.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) are identified to be favorable targets for cancer treatment. In present work, we showed that Boeravinone B, a Rotenoid from natural origin has significant anticancer activity via internalization of ErbB2 and EGFR, and thereby resulting in destruction of the receptors.
Methods: For cell viability and apoptosis were done by MTT assay.

This study aimed to assess sexual activity and menopausal symptoms in middle-aged Chinese women and to correlate this with their vaginal maturation status (VMS). 120 women aged 45-60 years were assigned to four groups: premenopause (Pre-M), perimenopause (Peri-M), early postmenopause (Post-EM), and late postmenopause (Post-LM). The menopausal symptoms were assessed using the Menopause Rating Scale.

Background: Photon (X-ray) radiotherapy (XRT) kills cells via DNA damage, however, how proton radiotherapy (PRT) causes cell death in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is unclear. We investigated mechanisms of HNSCC cell death after XRT versus PRT.
Methods: We assessed type of death in 2 human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive and two HPV-negative cell lines: necrosis and apoptosis (Annexin-V fluorescein isothiocyanate [FITC]); senescence (β-galactosidase); and mitotic catastrophe (γ-tubulin and diamidino-phenylindole [DAPI]).

Surgery remains the first choice of cure for early stage lung cancer. However, many patients are diagnosed at advanced stage, and thus miss the opportunity to undergo surgery. As such patients derive limited benefits from chemotherapy or radiotherapy, alternatives focusing on local control have emerged, including iodine-125 seed implantation.

Surgical repair of bone defects remains challenging, and the search for alternative procedures is ongoing. Devices made of Mg for bone repair have received much attention owing to their good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. We developed a new type of scaffold made of a Mg-Zn-Ca alloy with a shape that mimics cortical bone and can be filled with morselized bone.

Nogo-B receptor (NgBR) is a type I receptor with a single transmembrane domain and specifically binds to ligand Nogo-B. A previous study demonstrated that NgBR was highly expressed in human breast invasive ductal carcinoma and promoted epithelial-mesenchymal transition in breast tumor cells. Our recent work found that NgBR expression was associated with a poor prognosis in human patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
