Department of Anesthesiology, The Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi People's Hospital, Wuxi Medical Center, Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Lung transplantation (LTx) is the definitive treatment for end-stage pulmonary diseases, with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) used as a common perioperative support. However, it remains unclear if central (cVA-ECMO) or peripheral (pVA-ECMO) cannulation routes yield better outcomes in postoperative prognosis. This study compares the impact of these two cannulation strategies on primary graft dysfunction (PGD) incidence in LTx patients.

Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) plays an important role in the perioperative care of critically ill lung transplant patients. However, the factors predicting prognosis are unclear. This study assessed the association between static respiratory compliance (Crs) and outcomes of lung transplant patients receiving VV-ECMO in terms of 90-day mortality.

HRR as a predictor of lung health: insights from the NHANES database.

Front Med (Lausanne)

February 2025

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Wuxi People's Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi Medical Center, Wuxi, China.

Background: Chronic respiratory diseases (CRPD) are a global health threat characterized by oxidative stress, systemic inflammation, hypoxemia, and respiratory distress. Inflammatory indicators such as hemoglobin-to-red blood cell distribution width ratio (HRR) have been explored in relation to diseases of the respiratory system, but the correlation between HRR and pulmonary function has not been established. As part of this study, a representative sample of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) respondents aged 40 or over was used to examine the correlation between HRR and pulmonary function indices.

Bridging epigenomics and tumor immunometabolism: molecular mechanisms and therapeutic implications.

Mol Cancer

March 2025

Department of Thoracic Surgery, the Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi People's Hospital, Wuxi Medical Center, Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, 214023, China.

Epigenomic modifications-such as DNA methylation, histone acetylation, and histone methylation-and their implications in tumorigenesis, progression, and treatment have emerged as a pivotal field in cancer research. Tumors undergo metabolic reprogramming to sustain proliferation and metastasis in nutrient-deficient conditions, while suppressing anti-tumor immunity in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Concurrently, immune cells within the immunosuppressive TME undergo metabolic adaptations, leading to alterations in their immune function.

Lung Transplant Center, The Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi People's Hospital, Wuxi Medical Center, Nanjing Medical University, 299 Qingyang Road, Wuxi, 214023, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, irreversible, and fatal disease characterized by progressive interstitial lung fibrosis. Given its insidious onset and poor outcome, there is an urgent need to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying IPF and identify effective therapeutic targets and diagnosis and prognosis biomarkers. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death that occurs as lipid peroxides accumulate.

The clinical significance of phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) antigen domain-specific antibodies has not been determined. We investigated the role of serum PLA2R domain antibodies and epitope spreading in risk stratification and proteinuria remission in primary membranous nephropathy (PMN). Overall, 101 patients with PLA2R-associated MN diagnosed at the Wuxi People's Hospital between January 2019 and May 2021 were included and divided into low-to-medium risk (n = 12) and high-to-extremely-high risk (n = 89) groups.

ASH2L Deficiency in Smooth Muscle Drives Pulmonary Vascular Remodeling.

Circ Res

February 2025

Department of Respiratory Disease, Xinqiao Hospital, Third Military Medical University, Chongqing, China. (J.Z., T.-L.C., Y.-J.Q., Y.F.).

Background: Histone H3 lysine 4 methylation is one of the most abundant epigenetic modifications, which has been recently linked to vascular remodeling in pulmonary hypertension (PH). SET1/MLL methyltransferase complexes comprise the main enzymes responsible for methylating H3 lysine 4, yet their roles in vascular remodeling and PH are not fully understood. We aim to assess the contribution of ASH2L, a core SET1/MLL family member, to the pathogenesis of PH.

Background: Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) based on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) performed well in diagnosing muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). However, certain cases may present challenges in determining the final VI-RADS score using only T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) sequences, especially in the absence of dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) imaging. This study aims to evaluates whether biparametric MRI (bp-MRI) achieve comparable diagnostic performance to mp-MRI for predicting MIBC and seeks to identify the most suitable bp-MRI criterion by establishing four specific conditions based on T2WI and DWI.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are significant factors in the treatment resistance and recurrence of glioblastoma. Chromobox protein homolog 7 (CBX7) can inhibit the progression of various tumors, but its impact on the stem cell-like properties of glioblastoma cells remains unclear. Clinically, low levels of CBX7 are associated with poor prognosis and increased distant metastasis in glioblastoma patients, and this low expression is caused by methylation of the CBX7 promoter.

The elderly population is prone to osteoporosis, owing to the deterioration of the skin, liver, and kidney functions. Vitamin D (VD) supplementation has a limited effect, and VD deficiency is mostly treated with medication. Several studies have shown that the gut microbiota alters intestinal VD metabolism and that probiotic supplements can influence circulating VD levels.

Department of Thoracic Surgery, The Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi People's Hospital, Wuxi Medical Center, Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, China.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) is pivotal in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression, influencing drug resistance and immune cell behavior through complex ligand-receptor (LR) interactions. This study developed an epithelial LR-related prognostic risk score (LRrisk) to identify biomarkers and targets in NSCLC. We identified twenty epithelial LRs with significant prognostic implications and delineated three molecular NSCLC subtypes with distinct outcomes, pathological characteristics, biological pathways, and immune profiles.

Rapid development of resistance to sorafenib and subsequent hyperprogression in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) pose significant challenges, with the underlying mechanisms still largely unknown. Herein, sorafenib-induced TRIB3 is identified as a liver-specific determinant driving secondary resistance to sorafenib by facilitating the accumulation of protumorigenic neutrophils within tumors. Mechanistically, TRIB3, triggered by the sorafenib-elicited ROS-ER stress axis, operates in an NF-κB-dependent manner to upregulate CXCR1/2 ligands, subsequently promoting neutrophil recruitment into tumors.
