Glycogen Synthase Kinase-3 (GSK-3) was recently implicated in the dysregulated biology of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Low concentrations of GSK-3 inhibitors, SB216763 and BIO, suppressed the proliferation of AML cells with FLT3-ITD as early as 24 h after treatment. BIO was used in subsequent assays since it exhibited higher inhibitory effects than SB216763.

Background: Impaired glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity have been linked to the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Exosomes secreted by the umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells (UMSCs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) derived from exosomes have been shown to be associated with the progression of GDM-related complications.

Methods: UMSCs were isolated from umbilical cords and identified through flow cytometry.

Electronic address:

Zearalenone (ZEN), one of the most contaminated Fusarium toxins worldwide, is very common in contaminating wheat, corn oil and other foods. People are more vulnerable to ZEN exposure with more daily caloric intake, yet little is known about the combined effect of different dietary patterns with mycotoxins. This study aimed to compare the effects of long-term ZEN exposure on the overall biochemical landscape of the "gut-blood-liver axis" under normal diet and high-fat diet (HFD) using a combined multi-omics approach.

Little is known about the relationship between diet and depression through the gut microbiota among breast cancer patients. This study aimed to examine the dietary intake differences between depressed breast cancer (DBC) and non-depressed breast cancer (NBC) patients, and whether the differences could lead to gut microbiota changes that affect depressive symptoms. Participants completed the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) and 24 h dietary recall.

Oxycodone Alleviates Endometrial Injury via the TLR4/NF-B Pathway.

Evid Based Complement Alternat Med

February 2022

Department of Anesthesiology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Suzhou 215006, China.

Endometrial injury is a common female disease. This study was designed to illustrate the effects of oxycodone on mifepristone-induced human endometrial stromal cells (hEndoSCs) injury and delineate the underlying molecular mechanism. hEndoSCs were stimulated with mifepristone to generate the endometrial injury in vitro model.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how applying the Joint Commission International (JCI) defect management improvement mode can enhance the cleaning, disinfection, and overall management quality of instruments in a hospital's central sterile supply department (CSSD).
  • - Over a year, 32 CSSD staff were split into two groups, with one using standardized management and the other employing the JCI defect management approach, allowing for a comparison of disinfection effectiveness and adverse event occurrences.
  • - Results showed that the JCI-based observation group had better cleaning rates, lower adverse events, and higher staff satisfaction compared to the control group using standardized management, indicating that the JCI method may be more effective in improving CSSD operations.

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are transcripts longer than 200 nucleotides (nt) that are involved in the pathogenesis and development of various cancers including B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). To determine the potential roles of lncRNAs involved in pathogenesis of B-ALL, we analyzed the expression profile of lncRNAs and mRNAs in B-ALL, respectively, and constructed lncRNAs/mRNAs interaction network.

Methods: We performed RNA sequencing of 10 non-leukemic blood disease donors and 10 B-ALL patients for Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis.

State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine, Center for Reproduction and Genetics, Suzhou Municipal Hospital, The Affiliated Suzhou Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Gusu School, Nanjing Medical University, Suzhou, China. Electronic address:

Spermatogonia are accountable for spermatogenesis and male fertility, but the underlying mechanisms involved in spermatogonia maintenance are not clear. B lymphoma Mo-MLV insertion region 1 (BMI1) is a key component of epigenetic silencers. BMI1 is essential for stem-cell maintenance.

Intensive aquaculture often results in immunosuppression in fish, which may cause a series of diseases. In this study, to investigate the immunosuppressive mechanisms in fish, tilapia were intrapleural injected cyclophosphamide (CTX) at the doses of 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg·kg to induce immunosuppression. We determined the viability of immune cells, the content of lysozyme (LZM) and immunoglobulin M (IgM), the levels of nitric oxide (NO) and antioxidant parameters.

Phytoestrogens for the Management of Endometriosis: Findings and Issues.

Pharmaceuticals (Basel)

June 2021

Center of Reproductive Medicine, State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Medicine, Research Institute for Reproductive Health and Genetic Diseases, The Affiliated Wuxi Matemity and Child Health Care Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi 214002, China.

Endometriosis, a chronic disease characterized by recurrent pelvic pain and infertility, severely impacts the health and life quality of many women worldwide. Since phytoestrogens are commonly found in a variety of foods, and estrogen is a major pathological factor for the pathogenesis of endometriosis, their possible involvement cannot be ignored. This review summarizes data on the relationship between phytoestrogen intake and endometriosis risk, and analyzes the findings from in vitro experiments, rodent endometriotic models, and human intervention trials.

Pyroptosis, a newly discovered form of programmed cell death, is characterized by cell swelling, the protrusion of large bubbles from the plasma membrane and cell lysis. This death pathway is mediated by the pore formation of gasdermin D (GSDMD), which is activated by human caspase-1/caspase-4/caspase-5 (or mouse caspase-1/caspase11), and followed with the releasing of both cell contents and proinflammatory cytokines. Pyroptosis was initially found to function as an innate immune effector mechanism to facilitate host defense against pathogenic microorganisms, and subsequent studies revealed that pyroptosis also plays an eventful role in inflammatory immune diseases and tumor resistance.

State Key Laboratory of Food Science & Technology, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province 214122, China; School of Food Science & Technology, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province 214122, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to investigate changes in macronutrients, total bacterial count, and serum proteome of human milk (HM) under different frozen storage (-18°C and -60°C, 60 d and 180 d) by using IBT Labeling proteomics techniques and ELISA kit. The results indicated that total protein concentrations and total aerobic bacterial counts were significantly decreased at -18°C, while no difference at -60°C. A total of 1617 proteins were identified and quantified, and 173 proteins were significantly different.

We used data-independent acquisition (DIA) proteomics technology followed by ELISAs and automated biochemical analyses to identify and validate protein expression levels in Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) and healthy pregnant controls. We employed bioinformatics to identify metabolic processes associated with differentially expressed proteins. The expression levels of two proteins (S100-A9 and the L-lactate dehydrogenase A chain) were significantly higher in ICP patients than in controls; the areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs) were 0.

Only a few known epoxide hydrolases (EHs) displayed activity towards o-nitrostyrene oxide (4a), presumably owing to the large steric hindrance caused by o-nitro substituent. Therefore, excavating EHs with high activity and enantio- and/or regio-selectivity towards racemic (rac-) 4a is essential but challenging. Here, AuEH2 from Aspergillus usamii was expressed in E.
