Purpose: This study aimed to locate the inferior end (Pti) and the superior end (Pts) of pterygomaxillary junction (PMJ) relative to anterior nasal spine (ANS) so as to provide references for pterygomaxillary separation.
Methods: The study was based on CBCT images of 109 Chinese patients. We projected Pti and Pts to the frontal plane and measured the distance as well as the positional relationship between the projection points and ANS via three-dimensional reconstruction image.

Circadian rhythm serves an essential role in numerous physiological functions. Circadian oscillations are organized by circadian clock components at the molecular level. The precision of the circadian clock is controlled by transcriptional-translational negative feedback loops, as well as post-translational modifications of clock proteins, including ubiquitination; however, the influence of E3 ligases on clock protein ubiquitination requires further investigation.

Background And Objectives: We investigated the effects of a carbohydrate-whey protein solution on aged patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.
Methods And Study Design: Forty patients were randomly assigned to the carbohydrate-whey protein (CHP) group or the control group (CTL). In the CHP group, a mixed solution of CHP was orally administered to patients before surgery: 400 mL was administered on the day before surgery, and 200 mL was administered 3 h before surgery.

Background: The aberrant expression of circular RNAs (circRNAs) has been identified as a novel trait of cancers. However, the role of circRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains to be elucidated.
Methods: Informatic analysis was performed to identify circRNAs in CRC tissues and adjacent tissues.

BACKGROUND Volatile anesthetic preconditioning confers delayed cardioprotection against ischemia/reperfusion injury (I/R). AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) takes part in autophagy activation. Furthermore, autophagic flux is thought to be impaired after I/R.

Background: Dendrobii Officinalis Caulis (DC) is a well-known tonic herbal medicine worldwide and has favorable immunomodulatory activity. Various material specifications of DC are available in herbal markets, and DC is ingested by different edible methods. However, whether these specifications and edible methods are suitable or not remains unknown.

The management for totally thyroidectomized differentiated thyroid cancer (TT-DTC) patients with unexplained hyperthyroglobulinemia remains indeterminate because of evidence scarcity. This multicenter study aimed at prospectively evaluating the response to radioiodine (I) adjuvant therapy (RAT) and its potential role in risk stratification and causal clarification. TT-DTC patients with stimulated serum thyroglobulin levels greater than 10 ng/mL but no structurally evident disease were consecutively enrolled in 5 tertiary-care institutions.

This report aims to explore how LINC00691 regulates the proliferation and invasion of gastric cancer (GC). Clinical tissue and serum samples, as well as specimens in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, were used to analyse the expression of LINC00691 in GC. Our data indicated that the expression of LINC00691 in GC was significantly higher than that in healthy controls and was associated with clinicopathological features and survival time.

The present study aimed to determine whether apelin-13 could attenuate cardiac fibrosis via inhibiting the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt) pathway to inhibit reactive oxygen species in heart failure (HF) rats. HF models were established by inducing ischemia myocardial infarction (MI) through ligation of the left anterior descending artery in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. MI-induced changes in hemodynamics and cardiac function were reversed by apelin-13 administration.

Luteolin is a typical flavonoid and broadly distributed in the plants. Oral bioavailability of luteolin is low owing to extensive metabolism. Regioselective glucuronidation by UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) and liver uptake by organic anion transporting polypeptides (OATPs) of luteolin and consequent glucuronidation metabolites were studied.

Hypothyroidism is associated with profound left ventricular dysfunction. Triiodothyronine (T) supplementation may improve cardiac function after ischemic reperfusion (I/R) injury. In the present study, the effect of T on major calcium cycling proteins and high-energy phosphate content during I/R was evaluated.

BACKGROUND Hydrogels are ideal biological carriers in vivo and have been widely used in the treatment of wound healing through loading with or without bioactive substances. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is purified from autologous plasma and has known curative efficacy for wound healing. The combined efficacy of shorten poly-N-acetyl glucosamine (sNAG) hydrogels and PRP in the treatment of wound healing has not been previously assessed.

Background: The resin bond strength of sclerotic dentine is significantly lower than that of the normal dentine, which paused a challenge for bonding procedures clinically. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of different surface pretreatments on the micro-tensile bond strength and microstructure between sclerotic dentine and normal dentine.
Methods: Eighty teeth that were collected, forty premolars with typical wedge-shaped defects visually graded as class III were assigned as the sclerotic dentine group (SD), the other forty normal premolars with artificial wedge-shaped defects were assigned as the normal dentine group (ND).

Volatile anesthetics may protect the heart against ischemia‑reperfusion injury via the direct action on mitochondrial complexes and by regulating the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recently, we reported that isoflurane induced the attenuation of mitochondrial respiration caused by complex I substrates. This process was not associated with endogenous production of mitochondrial nitric oxide (NO).

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a common type of injury, and about half of patients affected by SCI will suffer from neuropathic pain within a year after injury. However, the treatment effect of neuropathic pain is far from satisfactory. Our study attempted to reveal whether salvianolic acid B (SalB) could relieve the neuropathic pain caused by SCI in mice by inhibiting the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/Myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) pathway.

To investigate the application value of the weight-bearing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in evaluating the stability of knee joint after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. From July 2011 to August 2013, a total of 25 patients with anterior cruciate ligament rupture and reconstruction surgery in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University were enrolled in this study, including 18 males and 7 females, with an average age of (32±5) years. All the patients underwent the weight-bearing MRI, knee joint passive relaxation test (Kneelax 3), and Lysholm score before the surgery and 3 and 6 months after the surgery.

Exposure of PC12 cells to 10 mM glutamate caused significant viability loss, cell apoptosis, decreased activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) as well as increased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA). In parallel, glutamate significantly increased the intracellular levels of ROS and intracellular calcium. However, pretreatment of the cells with acteoside and isoacteoside significantly suppressed glutamate-induced cellular events.

Background: Measuring optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD), an indicator to predict intracranial hypertension, is noninvasive and convenient, but the reliability of ONSD needs to be improved. Instead of using ONSD alone, this study aimed to evaluate the reliability of the ratio of ONSD to eyeball transverse diameter (ONSD/ETD) in predicting intracranial hypertension in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients.
Methods: We performed a prospective study on patients admitted to the Surgery Intensive Care Unit.
