November 2021

Department of Maxillofacial and E.N.T. Oncology, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin, China.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most serious diseases affecting populations worldwide and lymph node metastasis is a key pathological feature of HNSCC which predicts poor survival. However, the molecular mechanisms associated with the development of lymph node metastasis in HNSCC have not been fully elucidated.

Methods: Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in two HNSCC datasets (GES6631 and GES58911).

Nitrite and sulfite play important roles in human health and environmental science, so it is desired to develop a facile and efficient method to evaluate NO and SO concentrations. In this article, the use of green alternatives with the potential of multi-functionality has been synthesized to detect nitrite and sulfite based on fluorescent probe. The carbon dots (CDs) with starch as only raw materials show fluorescence turn "on-off-on" response towards NO and SO with the limits of detection of 0.

The application of a no-touch technique to create an autologous radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula might improve the patency rate. In the present report, we have expanded the concept of the no-touch technique by introducing a modified no-touch technique in which we preserve the perivenous vascular tissue, followed by a functional end-to-side anastomosis to create a radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula with early maturation for hemodialysis.

A simple and fast liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method was established and validated for the simultaneous determination of tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) and tenofovir (TNF) in human plasma. A simple protein precipitation procedure was employed to extract analytes from plasma. Chromatographic separation was performed on an Eclipse Plus C column utilizing a fast gradient elution starting with 2% of 2 mM ammonium acetate-formic acid (100/0.

Prediction of gold stage in patients hospitalized with COPD exacerbations using blood neutrophils and demographic parameters as risk factors.

BMC Pulm Med

October 2021

School of Biomedical Engineering (Suzhou), Division of Life Sciences and Medicine, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, 230026, People's Republic of China.

Background: Patients hospitalized with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations are unable to complete the pulmonary function test reliably due to their poor health conditions. Creating an easy-to-use instrument to identify the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) stage will offer valuable information that assists clinicians to choose appropriate clinical care to decrease the mortality in these patients. The objective of this study was to develop a prediction model to identify the GOLD stage in the hospitalized exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (ECOPD) patients.

A Novel Spectrum Contrast Mapping Method for Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Data Analysis.

Front Hum Neurosci

September 2021

Artificial Intelligence and Neuro-Informatics Engineering (ARINE) Laboratory, School of Computer Engineering, Jiangsu Ocean University, Lianyungang, China.

Many studies reported that spontaneous fluctuation of the blood oxygen level-dependent signal exists in multiple frequency components and changes over time. By assuming a reliable energy contrast between low- and high-frequency bands for each voxel, we developed a novel spectrum contrast mapping (SCM) method to decode brain activity at the voxel-wise level and further validated it in designed experiments. SCM consists of the following steps: first, the time course of each given voxel is subjected to fast Fourier transformation; the corresponding spectrum is divided into low- and high-frequency bands by given reference frequency points; then, the spectral energy ratio of the low- to high-frequency bands is calculated for each given voxel.

Purpose: This paper proposes a model for the angular dependency of MatriXX response and investigates whether MatriXX, with the angular-model-based approach can be applied to true composite dose verification for IMRT plans.

Method: This model attributes the angular dependence of MatriXX response to dynamical translation of its effective measurement plane (EMP) due to the change of beam angle. Considering this mechanism, true composite dose verifications for IMRT plans specified in AAPM TG 119 report using both MatriXX and Gafchromic EBT3 films were undertook and compared to validate the applicability of MatriXX for patient specific QA of composite beam IMRT plans.
