Abstract-Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a severe gastrointestinal disease in neonates, and effective strategies to prevent and treat NEC are still lacking. Studies have shown that N-acetylcysteine (NAC) has protective effects against NEC, however, the specific mechanism underlying its effects on intestinal functions remains unclear. Recently, NAC has been shown to suppress ferroptosis in many diseases, while it is unclear whether the beneficial effects of NAC on NEC are related to ferroptosis.

To investigate the role and related mechanism of the highly expressed circular RNA molecule 103124 (hsa_circRNA_103124) in macrophage differentiation, pyroptosis and inflammation in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of patients with active Crohn's disease (CD). Patients with active CD (CD group) admitted to the Affiliated Suzhou Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from April to September 2018 and healthy people (control group) from the physical examination center of the hospital from July to October 2018 were retrospectively selected. The levels of hsa_circRNA_103124 and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) in PBMC of the two groups were detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the role of plasma interleukin 9 (IL9) levels in diagnosing mucosal healing (MH) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients receiving biological treatments, analyzing data from 137 patients over 54 weeks.
  • Patients were grouped based on the biological agent they received (Infliximab, Adalimumab, Ustekinumab, Vedolizumab), and assessments were made on clinical symptoms, inflammatory markers, and imaging, with endoscopic evaluations at the end of the study period.
  • Results showed that a significant percentage of Crohn's disease (43.3%) and ulcerative colitis (55.0%) patients achieved mucosal healing, and IL9 levels

Objective: We aimed to construct the ferritin autophagy regulatory network and illustrate its mechanism in ferroptosis, TME immunity and malignant phenotypes of ovarian cancer.

Methods: First, we used Western blot assays and immunohistochemistry to detect the pathway expression in ovarian cancer samples (C-MYC, NCOA4). Then, we performed RIP and FISH analysis to verify the targeted binding of these factors after which we constructed ovarian cancer cell models and detected pathway regulator expression (NCOA4).

Monte Carlo simulation of physical dose enhancement in core-shell magnetic gold nanoparticles with TOPAS.

Front Oncol

September 2022

Department of Radiation Oncology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital & Shenzhen Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Shenzhen, China.

The application of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) as sensitization materials is a common strategy that is used to study dose enhancement in radiotherapy. Recent tests have revealed that magnetic gold nanoparticles (NPs) can be used in cancer therapy under a magnetic field to enhance the synergistic efficiency in radiotherapy and photothermal therapy. However, magnetic gold NPs have rarely been studied as sensitization materials.

The single and/or combination use of immune checkpoint blockade therapies in human infectious diseases and cancer are rapidly expanding. Despite early efforts, substantial uncertainty remains about the safety and efficacy of immune checkpoint blockade in some populations. Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) and T-cell immunoglobulin mucin-3 (Tim-3) are the major targetable co-inhibitory receptors on T cells.

There is delicate crosstalk between fetus-derived trophoblasts (Tros) and maternal cells during normal pregnancy. Dysfunctions in interaction are highly linked to some pregnancy complications, such as recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA), pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction. Hyaluronan (HA), the most abundant component of extracellular matrix, has been reported to act as both a pro- and an anti-inflammatory molecule.

March 2019

State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, Institute of Hematology and Blood Disease Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Tianjin, China.

Current researches have determined the significance of C-C chemokine receptor (CCR)6 expression as either a marker of T helper cells (Th) or an effector and regulator of T cell function. However, the roles of CCR6 in the pathogenesis of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) are unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the phenotype and functional characteristics of circulating CCR6 T cells in blood from chronic ITP patients and healthy controls.

Br J Haematol

July 2017

State Key Laboratory of Experimental Haematology, Institute of Haematology and Blood Disease Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Tianjin, China.

CD72 is a co-receptor of B cells and regulates B cell activation. Although aberrant expression of CD72 has been reported in primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), it is uncertain whether this aberrant expression is restricted to specific B cell subsets. Furthermore, the mechanisms that regulate CD72 expression are unknown.
