This study proposes a method that integrates maxillary dental cast and cephalograms and evaluates its accuracy compared with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The study sample comprised 20 adult patients with records of dental casts, cephalograms, and craniofacial CBCT scans. The maxillary dental cast was integrated with lateral and frontal cephalograms based on best-fit registration of palatal and dental outline curves from dental cast with cephalogram tracings.

The mixed dentition stage is the period between primary and permanent dentition. The following biological processes are complicated and variable: jaw growth, development of inherited permanent teeth embryo, physiological absorption of primary teeth, restoration of surrounding alveolar bones, and growth and function establishment of soft tissues. For the normal development of the jaw, the establishment of the good occlusion relationship, development, and function of soft tissue is very important, whether or not the primary teeth are normally replaced by the permanent teeth in the mixed dentition stage.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is marked by transcriptional factors. Twist-related protein 1 (TWIST-1) leads to the down-regulation of functional transcriptional regulators such as transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1) and Wnt signals, thus blocking the growth and maturation of chondrocytes and providing new pathways to the production of therapeutic targets in OA therapy. Our research assesses the role of aberrant expressions TWIST1 and TGF-β1 as therapeutic targets in the regulation of osteoarthritis by treating with piperlongumine, a known biological agent.

Fibroblast growth factor signaling is essential for mammalian bone morphogenesis and growth, involving membranous ossification and endochondral ossification. FGF9 has been shown to be an important regulator of endochondral ossification; however, its role in the early differentiation of chondrocytes remains unknown. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to determine the role of FGF9 in the early differentiation of chondrogenesis.

Glyburide Regulates UCP1 Expression in Adipocytes Independent of K Channel Blockade.

iScience

CAS Key Laboratory of Nutrition, Metabolism and Food Safety, Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 200031, P. R. China.

Identification of safe and effective compounds to increase or activate UCP1 expression in brown or white adipocytes remains a potent therapeutic strategy to combat obesity. Here we reported that, glyburide, one of the FDA-approved drugs currently used to treat type 2 diabetes, can significantly enhance UCP1 expression in both brown and white adipocytes. Glyburide-fed mice exhibited a clear resistance to high-fat diet-induced obesity, reduced blood triglyceride level, and increased UCP1 expression in brown adipose tissue.

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Dept. of Cariology and Endodontics, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Dental implants represent the majority of treatment strategies used to replace missing teeth. However, peri-implant diseases caused by disturbance in peri-implant microbiological balance are among the reasons for implant failure. Since the 1980s, peri-implant microorganisms have been a hot research topic in dental microbiology.

Objective: To investigate the clinical effect of eruption guidance appliance in the treatment of anterior cross bite in mixed-dentition children.

Methods: In the study,10 mixed-dentition children with anterior cross bite, totally 12 incisors, were selected. Alginate was used to take upper and lower dentition impression and make a hard plaster model, which served as the eruption guidance appliance for treatment.

Immunocompetence and mechanism of the DRibble-DCs vaccine for oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Cancer Manag Res

March 2018

Central Laboratory, Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Medical School of Nanjing University, Nanjing, People's Republic of China.

Background: Due to the high-quality immunogenicity of tumor-derived autophagosomes (DRibbles), we aimed to explore the antitumor ability and mechanism of DRibble-loaded dendritic cells (DRibble-DCs).

Materials And Methods: DRibbles extracted from the oral squamous cell carcinoma cell line SCC7 express specific LC3-II and ubiquitination marker. Immunization of mice with the DRibble-DCs vaccine led to the proliferation and differentiation of CD3CD4IFN-γ and CD3CD8IFN-γ T cells.

Management of oral diseases during pregnancy prefers to be a comprehensive oral health care strategy throughout pre-pregnant, pregnant and prenatal stages. It provides guidance not only to promote the overall health in pregnant women, but also concern fetus development and children's oral health. Pregnancy is a time of particular vulnerability in terms of oral health due to complex physical and physiological changes.

aCollege of Stomatology, Chongqing Medical University bChongqing Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases and Biomedical Sciences cChongqing Municipal Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Engineering of Higher Education, Chongqing dDepartment of General Dentistry, The Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of hypoxia on the proliferation, morphology, migration ability, hypoxia inducible factor (HIF) 1 (HIF-1) expression, and the relationship with Wnt/β-catenin signaling of human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) in vitro.

Methods: hPDLCs (4th passage) cultured by the tissue culture method were randomly assigned to slight (5% O2), severe hypoxia (1% O2) groups, and the control (21% O2) group, respectively. From 1st to 7th day, the optical density values were detected, and the growth curve was described.

Various cell types have been assessed for experimental periodontal tissue regeneration in a variety of animal models. Nonetheless, the efficacy of cell-based approaches for periodontal regeneration is still controversial. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to systematically review cell-based approaches for periodontal regeneration in animal studies including a meta-analysis to obtain more clarity on their efficacy.

Human-induced pluripotent (iPS) cells can be induced to differentiate into osteoblasts, but the process is inefficient and time-consuming. Previous studies indicated a close association between the expression of Runx2 and osteoblast differentiation, and established that the transcriptional activation of the Runx2 gene was closely associated with histone acetylation. microRNA-449a (miR-449a) represses HDAC1 expression, thereby regulating histone acetylation.

Objective: To compare the proteomic profiles of whole unstimulated saliva (WUS) of subjects with chronic periodontitis (CP) with that of healthy volunteers, and to identify proteins.

Methods: WUS was obtained from five subjects with CP and five healthy subjects, and proteins were separated using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE). Proteins, the level of which was significantly different among the two groups, were identified by computer image analyses and subsequent matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-TOF MS).

Objective: To investigate the root canal curvature of permanent anterior teeth from Chuang population.

Methods: 245 anterior teeth from Chuang population were collected and examined by X-ray radiography both from labiolingual and mesiodistal directions. For 218 type I anterior teeth, degree of root canal curvature, radius of curvature and length of the curved part of root canal were measured by a special electronic vernier caliper according to Schneider's and Schäfer's method and the data obtained were analyzed.
