Innate immunity serves as the first line of host defense in the body against pathogenic infections or malignant diseases. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), as vital signaling mediators, can efficiently elicit innate immune responses to oxidative-related stress or damage. In the era of nanomedicine, various immunostimulatory nanosystems have been extensively designed and synthesized to elicit immune responses for the immunotherapy of cancer or infectious diseases.

Cells are the fundamental units of life. The cell membrane primarily composed of two layers of phospholipids (a bilayer) structurally defines the boundary of a cell, which can protect its interior from external disturbances and also selectively exchange substances and conduct signals from the extracellular environment. The complexity and particularity of transmembrane proteins provide the foundation for versatile cellular functions.

Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) is a pivotal tool for global disease diagnosis and management. Since its clinical availability in 2009, the off-label use of ferumoxytol for ferumoxytol-enhanced MRI (FE-MRI) has significantly reshaped CE-MRI practices. Unlike MRI that is enhanced by gadolinium-based contrast agents, FE-MRI offers advantages such as reduced contrast agent dosage, extended imaging windows, no nephrotoxicity, higher MRI time efficiency and the capability for molecular imaging.

Liver regeneration following injury aids the restoration of liver mass and the recovery of liver function. In the present study we investigated the contribution of megakaryocytic leukemia 1 (MKL1), a transcriptional modulator, to liver regeneration. We report that both MKL1 expression and its nuclear translocation correlated with hepatocyte proliferation in cell and animal models of liver regeneration and in liver failure patients.

The cystine/glutamate antiporter SLC7A11, as the key regulator of ferroptosis, functions to transport cystine for glutathione biosynthesis and antioxidant defense. Accumulating evidence has shown that SLC7A11 is overexpressed in multiple human cancers and promotes tumor growth and progression. However, the exact mechanism underlying this key protein remains unclear.

The immunomodulatory effect of divalent manganese cations (Mn ), such as activation of the cGAS-STING pathway or NLRP3 inflammasomes, positions them as adjuvants for cancer immunotherapy. In this study, it is found that trace Mn ions, bound to bovine serum albumin (BSA) to form Mn@BSA nanocomplexes, stimulate pro-inflammatory responses in human- or murine-derived macrophages through TLR4-mediated signaling cascades. Building on this, the assembly of Mn@BSA nanocomplexes to obtain nanowire structures enables stronger and longer-lasting immunostimulation of macrophages by regulating phagocytosis.

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has a terrible consequence called leptomeningeal metastases (LM). It is crucial to look for novel biomarkers because none of the known biomarkers could effectively reflect the oncogenesis, progression and therapeutic responses of LM. Exosomal miRNAs from plasma have a critical function in lung cancer, according to growing data.

Homodimeric prodrug nanoassemblies (HDPNs) have been widely studied for efficient cancer therapy by virtue of their ultra-high drug loading and distinct nanostructure. However, the development of SN38 HDPNs is still a great challenge due to the rigid planar aromatic ring structure. Improving the structural flexibility of homodimeric prodrugs by increasing the linker length may be a potential strategy for constructing SN38 HDPNs.

The peroxidase-like activity of MXene@FeO nanocomposites and the relevant colorimetric application have been investigated for the first time. According to a kinetic study, MXene@FeO nanocomposites displayed higher peroxidase activity than their individual components, and the catalytic process followed a ping-pong mechanism. The improved peroxidase-like activity of the MXene@FeO nanocomposites was obtained due to the synergetic impact of the FeO and MXene phases, the huge ion-accessible interface, and quick electron transfer channels in the nanocomposites.

Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has achieved continued success in the treatment of tumors, but its progress in the treatment of atherosclerosis has been limited, mainly due to the low tissue-penetration ability of the excitation light for photosensitizers.
Methods: In this study, we designed a chemiexcited system producing singlet oxygen in an attempt to apply PDT for the treatment of atherosclerosis without the irradiation of external light. The system designed was polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) equipped with chemical fuel and photosensitizers, cross-linked with an Fe-catechol complex for stabilization and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
