Background: There is still little knowledge about the association of liver fibrosis with the clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The aim of the study was to determine the association of NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS)-determined liver fibrosis with clinical outcomes of COVID-19 patients with NAFLD.
Methods: The NAFLD was diagnosed by the Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI) in the absence of other causes of chronic liver diseases.

Background: Health care workers (HCWs) are at risk for occupationally acquired Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and tuberculosis (TB) disease due to repeated exposure to workplace tubercle bacilli. To determine whether continual mycobacterial stimulation correlates with increased expression of inhibitory T cell receptors, here we compared PD-1 receptor expression on surfaces of circulating T cells between naïve (uninfected) HCWs and HCWs with latent TB infection (LTBI).
Result: Data collected from 133 medical workers who met study selection criteria were included in the final analysis.

Introduction: Nutritional status has been defined as an individual's health condition. The relationship between the progression of COVID-19 and Nutritional status is still unclear. We analyzed the clinical characteristics of 342 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, and analyzed the relationship between the progression of COVID-19 and Nutritional status.

Type I interferon (IFN-I) plays pivotal roles in defense against viral infection. HSV-1 has evolved multiple strategies to evade IFN-I antiviral response. In this study, we revealed a new mechanism that HSV-1-encoded ICP0 regulates the host deubiquitinase BRCC36 to inhibit IFN-I antiviral response.

Interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) is a critical transcription factor for inducing production of type I interferons (IFN-I) and regulating host antiviral response. Although IRF3 activation during viral infection has been extensively studied, the inhibitory regulation of IRF3 remains largely unexplored. Here, we revealed that Midline-1 (MID1) is a ubiquitin E3 ligase of IRF3 that plays essential roles in regulating the production of IFN-I.

Although obesity is one of the strongest risk factors for esophageal adenocarcinoma, the molecular mechanisms underlying this association remain unclear. We recently identified four esophageal adenocarcinoma-specific master regulator transcription factors (MRTF) ELF3, KLF5, GATA6, and EHF. In this study, gene-set enrichment analysis of both esophageal adenocarcinoma patient samples and cell line models unbiasedly underscores fatty acid synthesis as the central pathway downstream of three MRTFs (ELF3, KLF5, GATA6).

Nef is an accessory protein encoded by human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) and plays important roles in regulating HIV-1 infection and viral replication. Interestingly, HIV-1 Nef can promote degradation of numerous host proteins to disrupt cellular antiviral immune response. However, how HIV-1 Nef is degraded by host factors remains largely unexplored.

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of marein, a major bioactive compound in functional food Coreopsis tinctoria, in hypertrophic H9c2 cells. Treating angiotensin II/hypoxia-stimulated H9c2 cells with marein led to decreasing cell surface area, intracellular total protein, atrial natriuretic peptide, and free fatty acids levels, but increasing glucose level. Marein treatment decreased hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPARγ), medium chain acyl-coenzyme A dehydrogenase, glucose transporter-4, and glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase protein expressions, and increased PPARα, fatty acid transport protein-1, carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1, and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase-4 protein expressions.

BACKGROUND The aim of our work was to evaluate the correlation between the quantitative parameters of the peak lesion to 25% improvement time (PIT25) and the prognosis of new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) patients by analyzing the changes of chest CT imaging. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective analysis included 68 patients with COVID-19 in the Fifth People's Hospital of Suzhou City. Three radiologists performed a blind evaluation of 4 chest CT images that included the initial scans, the lesion peak, the lesion decreased to 25% of the peak, and the final scan.

Anti-tuberculosis drug-induced liver injury (ATB-DILI) is a common adverse reaction of anti-tuberculosis drug treatment. Studies have shown that isoniazid (INH) and rifampicin (RFP) are mainly metabolized in the liver and a large amount of intracellular glutathione is used up during the metabolism of these drugs, resulting in lipid peroxidation and hepatocyte death. Ferroptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death caused by iron-ion-dependent lipid peroxidation.

Background And Aims: Necroptosis is a newly identified type of cell death with programmed pathways. The current study was performed to investigate necroptosis by measuring its key regulators; receptor interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3) and mixed lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL) in patients with Hepatitis B virus (HBV) related acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
Methods: HBV-related ACLF (HBV-ACLF) patients ( = 90), non-ACLF patients without cirrhosis ( = 70), patients with cirrhosis ( = 40), and healthy controls (HCs; = 70) were enrolled in the study.

Increasing evidence suggests that liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) are the cellular determinants that promote tumor recurrence and metastases. Aberrantly expressed miRNAs were identified in LCSCs and found to play a significant role in modulating biological characteristics of LCSCs. In this study, we implemented miRNA microarrays in CD133+ LCSCs and found miR-101 expression was downregulated.

Objectives: Rifampin (RIF), isoniazid (INH) and pyrazinamide (PZA) are essential components of the short-term first-line anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) chemotherapy regimen and can cause hepatotoxicity. However, the mechanism of anti-TB drug-induced hepatotoxicity (ATDH) is currently unclear. We investigate the relevant contributions to liver injury and the pathway of the above-mentioned drugs administered alone or in combination.
