Background: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses frequently confront significant psychological challenges, including compassion fatigue, moral distress, and diminished moral resilience. These issues not only affect their well-being but also impact the quality of care provided to patients. The interplay of these factors is complex and not fully understood, particularly how compassion fatigue influences the relationship between moral resilience and moral distress.

BODIPY-based photosensitizers were synthesized and tested for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy, revealing structural modifications enhancing the photodynamic therapy (PDT) effects. This research may lead to new PDT strategies for treating bacterial infections, including those resistant to traditional antibiotics, and offers insights into the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease through gut microbiota regulation.

Essential amino acids (EAA) and microRNAs (miRs) control biological activity of a cell. Whether EAA regulates the activity of miR has never been demonstrated. Here, as proof-of-concept, a tryptophan (Trp, an EAA) complex containing Argonaute 2 (Ago2) and miRs including miR-193a (Trp/Ago2/miR-193a) is identified.

Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the diagnostic value of radiomics models based on computed tomography (CT) in distinguishing between benign and malignant thyroid nodules.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinical and imaging data of 172 patients with pathology-confirmed thyroid nodules (83 benign nodules and 89 malignant nodules). All patients underwent a plain CT scan + arterial and venous contrast enhancement before the operation.

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) has become a favorable surgical approach for lumbar radiculopathy caused by intervertebral disc herniation. Studies have revealed patients with type II Modic change may suffer from unrelieved low back pain and higher lumbar disc herniation (LDH) recurrence after herniated nucleus pulposus removal. Therefore, in this study, we aim to evaluate how PELD performed in management of LDH patients with type II Modic change.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are the two most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases associated with age. Pathological studies have shown that these two diseases share a certain degree of neuropathological overlap. AD neuropathologic change contributes to cognitive impairment in PD.

Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is a common non-motor symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD) and is linked with increased mortality risk among the elderly. Although the locus coeruleus (LC) is the major source of noradrenaline (NA) modulation in the brain, its role in the pathogenesis of OH in PD remains largely elusive. Here we examined 44 well characterized postmortem brains of PD patients and available clinical data to explore the relationship between OH and LC pathology in PD.

Genome wide association studies (GWAS) have identified a series of genetic variants associated with the risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC)/Barrett's esophagus (BE), which was different from those loci for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). It is important to evaluate whether these susceptibility loci for EAC/BE are also implicated in ESCC development. In the current study, we analyzed genetic variants at 3p13, 9q22, 16q24 and 19p13 in a case-control study including 2139 ESCC patients and 2463 cancer-free controls in a Chinese population, and further characterized the biological relevance of genetic variants by functional assays.

Telomeres are essential for maintaining chromosomal stability and are crucial in tumor progression. Previous studies have explored the associations between telomere length and cancer prognosis, but the findings are inconclusive. Genome-wide association studies have identified several genetic variants associated with telomere length in Caucasians.

The outcome of early intravenous thrombolysis for ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is worse than that without thrombosis. How to increase the efficacy of intravenous thrombolysis for AF-related ischemic stroke remains largely unknown. In this study, we investigated factors that influence the effect of intravenous thrombolysis in these patients.

Telomeres maintain chromosomal stability and integrity and are crucial in carcinogenesis. Telomere length is implicated in multiple cancer risk, but the results are conflicting. Genome-wide association studies have identified several genetic loci associated with telomere length in Caucasians.
