Hypoglycemia has multiple causes, but the most common is a complication of insulin treatment. In addition to insulin therapy, tumors such as insulinomas of pancreatic origin and extrapancreatic tumors causing paraneoplastic syndromes should also be considered. Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura (SFTP) is rare tumor, which when associated with hypoglycemia causes Doege-Potter syndrome.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an important cause of disability and death. TBI leads to multiple forms of nerve cell death including ferroptosis due to iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Anacardic acid (AA) is a natural component extracted from cashew nut shells, which has been reported to have neuroprotective effects in traumatic brain injury.

Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) is one of the most dangerous complications after intravenous thrombolysis in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Therefore, we want to explore the predictive effects of peripheral blood S100β and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels on hemorrhagic transformation after intravenous thrombolysis in AIS patients. Ninety-two AIS patients who had been treated in Huai'an Second People's Hospital from January 2018 to December 2021 were retrospectively selected.

The intestine, often referred to as the "second brain" of the human body, houses a vast microbial community that plays a crucial role in maintaining the host's balance and directly impacting overall health. Probiotics, a type of beneficial microorganism, offer various health benefits when consumed. However, probiotics face challenges such as acidic conditions in the stomach, bile acids, enzymes, and other adverse factors before they can colonize the intestinal tissues.

Wilms' tumor gene 1 () is a transcription and post-translational factor that has a crucial role in the biological and pathological processes of several human malignancies. For hematological malignancies, overexpression or mutation has been found in leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome. About 70-90% of acute myeloid leukemia patients showed overexpression, and 6-15% of patients carried mutations.

Effect assessment of a type of xeno-free and serum-free human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells culture medium by proliferation and differentiation capacities.

Cytotechnology

October 2023

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Brain Disease Bioinformation, Research Center for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Xuzhou Medical University, Xuzhou, China.

Human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) possess broad prospects in pre-clinical research. In vitro amplification of hMSCs requires appropriate medium to reach the number of seed cells with clinical significance. However, the uncertainty of the heterologous components of the traditional fetal bovine serum (FBS) culture medium has great safety risks.

Background: Increasing evidence shows that electroacupuncture pretreatment (EP) plays a crucial role in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, and cerebral I/R injury is the most serious complication of ischemic stroke treatment. The role of miR-155-5p in cerebral I/R injury has been studied, but the regulation of EP on miR-155-5p has not been reported.

Methods: The middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) mice were used to investigate the role of EP in cerebral I/R injury.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an extremely deadly neoplasm, with only a 5-year survival rate of around 9%. The tumor and its microenvironment are highly heterogeneous, and it is still unknown which cell types influence patient outcomes.

Methods: We used single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptome (ST) to identify differences in cell types.

The purpose of this trial was to clinically assess the effect and safety of Adipose Tissue-derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) treatment on primary Sjogren's Syndrome (pSS). In this 6-month randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, pSS patients were randomly assigned to two groups. After demographic characteristics and clinical examination were achieved, local injection of ADSCs into bilateral glands was performed with patients in ADSCs group (n = 35) and placebo solution was used for another group (n = 39) at three time points.

Objective: To investigate the impact of human serum albumin (HSA) levels on symptomatic cerebral vasospasm (SCVS) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH).

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records. SCVS was defined as the development of a new neurological deterioration when the cause was considered to be ischemia attributable to vasospasm after other possible causes of worsening had been excluded.

Drug resistance is a major impediment to the successful treatment of glioma. This study aimed to elucidate the effects and mechanisms of the long noncoding RNA membrane-associated guanylate kinase inverted-2 antisense RNA 3 (MAGI2-AS3) on temozolomide (TMZ) resistance in glioma cells. MAGI2-AS3 expression in TMZ-resistant glioblastoma (GBM) cells was analyzed using the Gene Expression Omnibus data set GSE113510 and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR).

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are key RNA molecules in cancer biology. CircRNA PR/SET domain 5 (circ_PRDM5, hsa_circ_0005654) was downregulated in breast cancer (BC) tissues. This study is designed to investigate the functional mechanism of circ_PRDM5 in BC.

Radiotherapy (RT) is one of the key methods for treating breast cancer. However, the effect of single RT is often poor because of insufficient deposition of X-rays in tumor sites and radiation resistance induced by the abnormal tumor microenvironment (overexpression of glutathione (GSH)). The development of multifunctional RT sensitizers and synergetic therapeutic strategies is, therefore, a promising area for enhancing the anticancer effect of RT.

Acute kidney injury (AKI), mainly caused by Ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI), is a common and severe life-threatening disease with high mortality. Accumulating evidence suggested a direct relationship between endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response and AKI progression. However, the role of the transmissible ER stress response, a new modulator of cell-to-cell communication, in influencing intercellular communication between renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) and macrophages in the AKI microenvironment remains to be determined.

Recently, epigenetics showed essential roles in tumour microenvironment (TME) and immunotherapy response, however, the functions of RNA 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modification in TME remains unknown. According to 13 m5C regulators, we evaluated 412 BLCA patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. The m5C score was constructed by unsupervised clustering analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) algorithms.
