Research indicates that sleep problem is a behavioral risk factor of obesity. However, few research have applied a multi-dimensional approach to investigate the relationship between sleep health and adiposity. Therefore, the current study aimed to examine the associations of sleep characteristics (duration, quality) and chronotype with overweight/obesity as measured by body mass index.

Although the ductal anomalous origin of the pulmonary artery (DOPA) constitutes a rare heart anomaly, this malformation has a high mortality rate due to the rapid development of pulmonary hypertension(PTH) and right heart failure. Case Presentation: We report a case of DOPA, in which ductus arteriosus originated from the left pulmonary artery. This article summarizes the embryogenesis, clinical manifestations, complications and prognosis, diagnosis and experience, and treatment strategies of DOPA.

Background: Given its progressive deterioration in the clinical course, noninvasive assessment and risk stratification for the severity of renal fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD) are required. We aimed to develop and validate an end-to-end multilayer perceptron (MLP) model for assessing renal fibrosis in CKD patients based on real-time two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) and clinical variables.

Methods: From April 2019 to December 2021, a total of 162 patients with CKD who underwent a kidney biopsy and 2D-SWE examination were included in this single-center, cross-sectional, and prospective clinical study.

Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University, the Second People's Hospital of Yunnan Province, Yunnan Eye Hospital, Kunming, Yunnan, People's Republic of China.

The main factors contributing to the unfavorable outcome in the clinical treatment of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients are radiation resistance and recurrence. This study aimed to investigate the sensitivity and molecular foundation of cytokeratin 13 (CK13) in the radiotherapy of NPC. To achieve this, a human NPC cell line overexpressing CK13, HNE-3-CK13, was constructed.

Wilson's disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive disease that is caused by mutations in the (a copper-transporting P-type ATPase) gene. The disease has a low prevalence and is characterized by a copper metabolism disorder. However, various characteristics of the disease are determined by race and geographic region.

The side effects of conventional therapy for acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) are severe, with inflammatory reactions playing a pivotal role. It is particularly important to explore new ways of treatment thrombosis by targeting inflammatory factors. A targeted microbubble contrast agent was prepared using the biotin-avidin method.

Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a sustainable technique that effectively treats morbid obesity. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the improvement of metabolic health following this process warrants more investigation. This study investigates LSG-related molecules and uses bulk RNA-sequencing high-throughput analysis to unravel their regulatory mechanisms.

Rationale And Objectives: Accurate identification of risk information about fibrosis severity is crucial for clinical decision-making and clinical management of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study aimed to develop an ultrasound (US)-derived computer-aided diagnosis tool for identifying CKD patients at high risk of developing moderate-severe renal fibrosis, in order to optimize treatment regimens and follow-up strategies.

Materials And Methods: A total of 162 CKD patients undergoing renal biopsies and US examinations were prospectively enrolled and randomly divided into training (n = 114) and validation (n = 48) cohorts.

Infections with Scedosporium and Lomentospora species are usually found in patients who are immunodeficient, particularly in the transplant population. However, they are relatively rare in patients who are immunocompetent, which is especially useful in ruling out near-drowning and aspiration situations. Here, we report a case of a patient who is immunocompetent, with clinically suspected community-acquired pneumonia caused by Lomentospora prolificans detected by metagenomics next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and polymerase chain reaction from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.

Electronic address:

Background: Bacterial infections are common during induction therapy in children and adolescents with acute leukaemia and may cause infection-related mortality.

Aim: To determine the efficacy and safety of prophylactic antibiotics in paediatric patients with acute leukaemia receiving induction chemotherapy.

Methods: From three English databases and four Chinese databases, we searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that compared prophylactic antibiotics to placebo, no prophylaxis, or that compared one antibiotic versus another in paediatric patients with acute leukaemia undergoing induction chemotherapy.

Background: Prophylactic medication in clinical detoxification programs for the treatment of medication overuse headache is still debated. Gastrodin, a main bioactive constituent of , has been applied clinically to treat primary headache for more than 30 years in China due to its potential analgesic and anti-migraine mechanisms. However, clinical evidence supporting its routing use in MOH is insufficient.

Article Synopsis
  • - Falls are a major cause of injuries and death in older adults, primarily due to poor balance control, which is influenced by various body systems like the musculoskeletal, central nervous, and sensory systems.
  • - While researchers recognize the complexity behind balance-related falls, there are still gaps in understanding the exact causes and mechanisms involved.
  • - The review highlights the need for further research on falls in the elderly, including potential treatments like exercise, AI-based equipment, medications, and education to prevent falls, emphasizing the necessity for larger studies to explore these issues comprehensively.

Our previous study reported that seminaturally occurring arthrocolins A to C with unprecedented carbon skeletons could restore the antifungal activity of fluconazole against fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans. Here, we showed that arthrocolins synergized with fluconazole, reducing the fluconazole minimum and dramatically augmenting the survivals of 293T human cells and nematode Caenorhabditis elegans infected with fluconazole-resistant C. albicans.

Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers in digestive system, and its prognosis remains unsatisfactory. Therefore, this study aimed to identify gene signatures that could effectively predict the prognosis of colon cancer patients by examining the data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. LASSO-Cox regression analysis generated a five-gene signature ( and ) that was associated with patient survival in the TCGA cohort.
