Background And Objectives: As indicated by observational and genetic variation studies, age at first sexual intercourse (AFS) may be associated with migraine attack, but there is a lack of evidence from real-world studies due to ethical concerns. Therefore, we conducted a Mendelian randomization study to determine the causal relationship between AFS and migraine.

Methods: We extracted instrumental variables from summary data of a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on AFS and migraine and then conducted two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses.

Genetically proxied PCSK9 inhibition is associated with reduced psoriatic arthritis risk.

Inflamm Res

March 2024

Innovation Platform of Regeneration and Repair of Spinal Cord and Nerve Injury, Guangming District, The Seventh Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, 66 Gongchang Road, Shenzhen, 518107, China.

Background: Lipid pathways play a crucial role in psoriatic arthritis development, and some lipid-lowering drugs are believed to have therapeutic benefits due to their anti-inflammatory properties. Traditional observational studies face issues with confounding factors, complicating the interpretation of causality. This study seeks to determine the genetic link between these medications and the risk of psoriatic arthritis.

What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Fatal poisonings caused by wild mushrooms containing amanita toxins pose a significant threat in the southern regions of China. These toxins primarily induce gastrointestinal symptoms initially, which are then followed by potentially life-threatening acute liver damage.

What Is Added By This Report?: This report contributes to the existing knowledge on these cases of poisoning by documenting the second occurrences in Hebei Province and the first occurrences in Xingtai City.

HBV Vaccines: Advances and Development.

Vaccines (Basel)

December 2023

Molecular Medicine Research Centre of Yunnan Province, Faculty of Life Science and Technology, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming 650500, China.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global public health problem that is closely related to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The prevalence of acute and chronic HBV infection, liver cirrhosis, and HCC has significantly decreased as a result of the introduction of universal HBV vaccination programs. The first hepatitis B vaccine approved was developed by purifying the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) from the plasma of asymptomatic HBsAg carriers.

Nanomaterial-Based Drug Delivery Systems for Ischemic Stroke.

Pharmaceutics

November 2023

Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Prevention and Treatment of Neuropsychiatric Diseases, Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine, Kunming 650500, China.

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the world. At present, reperfusion therapy and neuroprotective therapy, as guidelines for identifying effective and adjuvant treatment methods, are limited by treatment time windows, drug bioavailability, and side effects. Nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems have the characteristics of extending half-life, increasing bioavailability, targeting drug delivery, controllable drug release, and low toxicity, thus being used in the treatment of ischemic stroke to increase the therapeutic effects of drugs.

Background: Intravascular leiomyomatosis (IVL) of the uterus is extremely rare in clinical practice, often involving the pelvic and abdominal veins. Involvement of the heart and pulmonary arteries is rarer but can lead to severe clinical outcomes. It is difficult to diagnose the disease before operation, and most of them are found accidentally during the operation or postoperative pathology of uterine fibroids.

CKLF-like MARVEL transmembrane domain-containing 6 (CMTM6), a regulator of programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1), has attracted extensive attention due to its role in tumors. However, research on the expression of CMTM6 in colorectal cancer (CRC) and its relationship with PD-L1 expression and immune cell infiltration is limited. We used The Cancer Genome Atlas database to mine and analyze data from patients with CRC using bioinformatics methods.

Human interleukin-5 (IL-5) functions as an important pro-inflammatory factor by binding to its specific receptor, IL-5Rα, which has been implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma. Previously, a disulfide-bonded cyclic peptide AF17121 obtained from random library screening and sequence variation was found to competitively disrupt the cognate IL-5Rα/IL-5 interaction with moderate potency. In this study, the crystal complex of IL-5Rα with AF17121 was investigated at structural and energetic levels.

Subretinal fibrosis (SF) is an important cause of submacular neovascularization that leads to permanent vision loss, but has no effective clinical treatment. The present study examined the influence of metformin on SF, and investigated whether the mechanism involves the microRNA (miR)-140-3p/LIN28B/JNK/STAT3-mediated regulation of oxidative stress, angiogenesis and fibrosis-associated indicators. A mouse model of laser-induced SF was established.
