Purpose: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is accompanied by cerebral perfusion changes. We aimed to measure the parenchymal blood volume (PBV) maps acquired by C-arm flat-panel detector CT (FDCT) to assess the cerebral blood volume at an early stage in aneurysmal SAH and to explore the correlation with the outcomes at discharge.
Methods: Data of 66 patients with aneurysmal SAH who underwent FDCT PBV examination were retrospectively analyzed.

Background: The underlying functions and mechanisms of the Th17 pathway in Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) progression and tumor immunology are still unclear. We investigated the correlation between IL17A expression and certain clinical parameters, tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs) in TCGA HNSCC samples.
Methods: HNSCC files from the TCGA database were analyzed to obtain data on immune system infiltrates, gene expression, and related clinical information.

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is characterized by rapid progression and a high mortality rate. The current treatment is still based on surgical treatment, supplemented by radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and new methods of combining immune and molecular biological treatments are being explored. Despite this, the survival rate of PC patients is still very disappointing.

Deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) are a group of proteases that are important for maintaining cell homeostasis by regulating the balance between ubiquitination and deubiquitination. As the only known metalloproteinase family of DUBs, JAB1/MPN/Mov34 metalloenzymes (JAMMs) are specifically associated with tumorigenesis and immunological and inflammatory diseases at multiple levels. The far smaller numbers and distinct catalytic mechanism of JAMMs render them attractive drug targets.

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is a subtype of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) with high morbidity and mortality. Posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) is a common and major complication that affects prognosis, but the mechanism is still unclear. Inflammation and fibrosis have been well established as the major causes of PHH after IVH.

Transmembrane-4 L-six family member-1 (TM4SF1) is a member of the L6 family and functions as a signal transducer to regulate tumor cell behaviors. However, the function and mechanism of TM4SF1 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) metastasis remains unclear. Here, we find that TM4SF1 expression is increased and positively correlated with clinical TNM stage, N classification, differentiation, tumor size, and poor prognosis in ESCC patients.

Background: Many studies have been done regarding perforation after colonoscopy, but few studies analyzed the risk factors of endoscopic treatment failure after colonoscopy perforation. This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and treatment plan of those patients with perforation after colonoscopy diagnosis and the treatment and risk factors of failure to endoscopic treatment.
Method: This was a retrospective observational study of patients who underwent colonoscopy examination and treatment at the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University, from 04/2009 to 03/2020.

Background: Sexual dimorphism with critical diseases has been documented. However, the role of serum sex hormones for the presence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in moderately or severe acute pancreatitis (MSAP and SAP) patients remains controversial. Here we set out to evaluate whether early (first 48 h) serum estradiol level is associated with AKI in patients with MSAP and SAP.

The modulation of the gut microbiome has been widely suggested as a promising therapeutic strategy for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Here, we established a novel probiotic cocktail to investigate its therapeutic role in acute colitis mice. During dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, the mice were treated with the probiotic cocktail, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from a healthy mice donor, or 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA), respectively.

Early detection and precise prognostic evaluation of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) are crucial for patient life expectancy. Ion channel-related genes (ICRGs) are of great diagnostic and prognostic value as components that maintain the normal structure of the kidney. Therefore, we systematically explored the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic value of ICRGs in ccRCC using the multi-database.

Myricetin, a natural flavonoid, exhibits diverse biological activities, including antitumor effects. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of myricetin on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and explore the underlying molecular mechanisms. Our results showed that myricetin significantly inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in HCC cells.

Glioma is the most common primary central nervous system malignant tumor with high heterogeneity and poor prognosis. So far, the complex pathological process of glioma has not been fully elucidated, and there is a lack of effective biomarkers for the diagnosis and molecular targeted therapy of glioma. Using bioinformatics methods, 77 upregulated and 89 downregulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected by intersection analysis in different gene expression datasets of glioma cases from public databases.

Pathological changes in the brain endothelium play an important role in the progression of ischemic stroke and the compromised BBB under ischemic stroke conditions cause neuronal damage. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms of the BBB under normal conditions and under ischemic stroke conditions have not been fully elucidated. The present study demonstrated that knockdown of TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) or overexpression of TDP43-CTFs35 inhibited tight junction protein expression, and mammalian sterile-20-like 1/2 (MST1/2) and YES-associated protein (YAP) phosphorylation in brain ECs and suppressed brain EC migration in vitro.

Despite tremendous efforts devoted to research in pancreatic cancer (PC), the mechanism underlying the tumorigenesis and progression of PC is still not completely clear. Additionally, ideal biomarkers and satisfactory therapeutic strategies for clinical application in PC are still lacking. Accumulating evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) might participate in the pathogenesis of diverse cancers, including PC.

Background: Oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction play critical roles in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Isoliquiritigenin (ISL), a flavonoid monomer extracted from licorice, has been found to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in cancer studies. Here, we tested the effect and underlying mechanisms of ISL on ischemia-induced myocardial injury in a mouse AMI model.

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) has become a favorable surgical approach for lumbar radiculopathy caused by intervertebral disc herniation. Studies have revealed patients with type II Modic change may suffer from unrelieved low back pain and higher lumbar disc herniation (LDH) recurrence after herniated nucleus pulposus removal. Therefore, in this study, we aim to evaluate how PELD performed in management of LDH patients with type II Modic change.
