Article Synopsis
  • Low levels of specific ribosomal proteins like RPL5 and RPL11 can inactivate the tumor suppressor p53, which is important for cancer regulation.
  • The RNA-binding protein SRBD1, found to be low in glioma tissues, can boost p53 levels and activate its signaling pathway, enhancing tumor suppression.
  • SRBD1 promotes the interaction between RPL11 and MDM2, stabilizing p53 and inhibiting glioma growth, suggesting that targeting this pathway could improve treatment strategies for glioma patients.

Background: Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is associated with increased risk in a wide range of illnesses. However, few studies have explored the associations between SII and the risk of malnutrition. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between SII and malnutrition in a nationwide, multicenter, cross-sectional study involving Chinese hospitalized patients.

Purpose: Traditional fasting causes considerable discomfort without added assurance of security, whereas oral carbohydrate beverage offers an alternative to improve medical experience. This study aims to explore the impact of different types and dosages of oral fluids loading before painless bidirectional endoscopy on the gastric emptying and wellbeing.

Methods: 180 patients arranged for bidirectional endoscopy with intravenous anesthesia were randomized: patients in the control group (Group C) obeyed standard fasting; the 200 mL carbohydrate group (Group P1), 400 mL carbohydrate group (Group P2), 200 mL water group (Group W1) and 400 mL water group (Group W2) respectively consumed 200 mL or 400 mL corresponding clear liquids 2 h before the procedure.

Article Synopsis
  • - Previous research suggests that drinking tea might help protect against neurodegenerative diseases, but its link to early signs of these diseases, specifically REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), has not been fully established.
  • - A Mendelian randomization study was conducted using genetic factors related to tea consumption to assess whether there is a causal relationship between tea intake and the risk of developing RBD.
  • - The results showed a significant association; higher tea consumption is likely linked to a reduced risk of RBD, indicating that tea might act as a protective factor against this condition.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of insulin degludec biosimilar B01411 (HS-IDeg) with originator insulin degludec-Tresiba (NN-IDeg) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) who were inadequately controlled on oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) for at least 3 months.

Methods: This multicenter, randomized, open-label, parallel-group, active-controlled, phase 3 study enrolled 362 participants with T2DM. Participants were stratified according to whether the insulin secretagogue (sulfonylurea or glinide) had been used before the screening and then randomized 1:1 to receive once-daily subcutaneous injections of HS-IDeg ( = 180) or NN-IDeg ( = 182) for 18 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how CAR-T cell therapy affects platelet function in 50 patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (MM), finding that platelet closure time (PCT) significantly improved post-treatment.
  • Before therapy, the mean PCT was prolonged, but it decreased notably after CAR-T treatment, showing results similar to healthy controls.
  • Additionally, a PCT over 240.5 seconds after treatment was linked to shorter progression-free survival and indicated overall survival prognosis, suggesting PCT could be a useful biomarker for assessing CAR-T therapy effectiveness.

Mammary hydroxylated oestrogen activates the NLRP3 inflammasome in tumor-associated macrophages to promote breast cancer progression and metastasis.

Int Immunopharmacol

December 2024

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of New Drug Research and Clinical Pharmacy, Xuzhou Medical University, 221004 Xuzhou, China. Electronic address:

Breast cancer remains one of the primary causes of cancer-related death. An imbalance of oestrogen homeostasis and an inflammatory tumor microenvironment (TME) are vital risk factors for the progression and metastasis of breast cancer. Here, we showed that oestrogen homeostasis was disrupted both in breast cancer patients and in a transgenic MMTV-PyMT mouse model of breast cancer, and significant levels of hydroxylated oestrogen accumulated in the mammary tissues of these patients and mice.

Establishment and validation of an extracellular volume model without blood sampling in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients.

Eur Heart J Imaging Methods Pract

January 2024

Department of Cardiology, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, 301 Yanchang Road, Shanghai 200072, China.

Aims: Recent studies have shown that extracellular volume (ECV) can also be obtained without blood sampling by the linear relationship between haematocrit (HCT) and blood pool R1 (1/T1). However, whether this relationship holds for patients with myocardial infarction is still unclear. This study established and validated an ECV model without blood sampling in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients.

Relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma patients with extramedullary disease (EMD) have unfavorable prognosis and lack effective therapy. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell activities in EMD have yet to be determined; how EMD-specific microenvironment influences the clinical outcomes of CAR T-cell therapy remains of great interest. In this prospective cohort study, patients with histologically confirmed extra-osseous EMD were enrolled and treated with combined anti-BCMA and anti-CD19 CAR T-cell therapy from May 2017 to September 2023.

Background: Although percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is recommended by guidelines, data from the real world suggest that elderly non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) patients have a low rate of PCI and a high death rate. Lymphocyte to C-reactive protein ratio (LCR), a novel inflammatory marker, has been shown to be associated with prognosis in a variety of diseases. However, the relationship between LCR and in-hospital cardiac death in elderly NSTEMI patients is unclear.
