Claudin-6 (CLDN6) has been extensively studied in different tumors to date. However, in the case of nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), CLDN6 has a largely unknown role and molecular mechanism. We detected the expression of CLDN6 in NSCLC tissues and cells using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and western blot assays.

HDAC10 has been reported to be associated with poor prognosis in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), however, the regulatory role and mechanisms of HDAC10 in NSCLC have not been investigated. In this study, we found that HDAC10 was increased in NSCLC patients and cell lines. And high expression of HDAC10 is linked to poor survival in NSCLC patients.

Activation of ATF4 triggers trabecular meshwork cell dysfunction and apoptosis in POAG.

Aging (Albany NY)

March 2021

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness. Dysfunction of the trabecular meshwork (TM), resulting in decreased outflow of aqueous humor and increased intraocular pressure (IOP), plays an important role in the pathogenesis of POAG. However, the underlying mechanisms still remain unclear.

Depression is one of most common psychiatric disorders, and the detailed molecular mechanism remains to be fully elucidated. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a critical neurotrophic factor that is decreased and closely involved in the development of depression. Noncoding RNAs are central regulators of cellular activities that modulate target genes.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how special immune cells called T regulatory cells (Tregs) affect inflammation in the liver of baby mice born early.
  • The researchers injected the mice with a substance called LPS to cause inflammation and observed how Tregs helped control this reaction.
  • They found that Tregs were important for keeping the mother's immune system in check so it doesn't harm the developing baby mouse's liver during inflammation.

The tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein 1 (TRAP1) is associated with the occurrence and development of various diseases, including inflammation and cancer. However, the role and mechanism of TRAP1 in the development of lung cancer need to be further explored. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the role of TRAP1 in the regulation of apoptosis by cisplatin and its special mechanism.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition in which a hormone made by the placenta prevents the body from using insulin effectively. It is important to find an effective treatment. A mouse model of GDM was used to testify the effects of astaxanthin on glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity.

TIPE2 suppressed cisplatin resistance by inducing autophagy via mTOR signalling pathway.

Exp Mol Pathol

April 2020

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Xi'an No.4 Hospital, Xi'an, Shaanxi 710004, China. Electronic address:

Tumour necrosis factor-α-induced protein-8-like-2 (TIPE2) has been associated with the progression of numerous cancers. Cisplatin, as a classical chemotherapy strategy for cancers, has been applied in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) clinical therapy but bears the disadvantage of chemoresistance. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of TIPE2 in cisplatin resistance and illustrate the detailed molecular mechanism.

Unlabelled: The purpose of this research was to examine if the IL1B gene polymorphism has impact on the risk of steroid-induced ONFH in Chinese population. We found that IL1B rs1143630 decreased the SANFH's risk and IL1B rs2853550 increased the risk of steroid-induced ONFH. So, we guess that IL1B gene influences the genetic susceptibility of steroid-induced ONFH.

Growing evidence indicates that Angiomotin (Amot)-p130 and Amot-p80 have different physiological functions. We hypothesized that Amot-p130 is a tumor suppressor gene in breast cancer, in contrast with the canonical oncogenicity of Amot-p80 or total Amot. To clarify the role of Amot-p130 in breast cancer, we performed real-time quantitative PCR, western blotting, flow cytometry, microarray, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, and tumor sphere-formation assays in vitro, as well as tumorigenesis and limited-dilution analysis in vivo.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) has been reported as an inflammatory cytokine in many inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis and ischemic diseases. However, dynamic changes of MIF within the first 24 hours on admission and potential prognostic significance following ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been little known. In this study, we examined the dynamic change of MIF level and its potential diagnostic and prognostic value after the onset of STEMI.

Purpose: To investigate the value of spectral CT in the differential diagnosis of benign from malignant pleural effusion.

Method And Materials: 14 patients with benign pleural effusion and 15 patients with malignant pleural effusion underwent non-contrast spectral CT imaging. These patients were later verified by the combination of disease history, clinical signs and other information with the consensus of surgeons and radiologists.

Studies have shown that long noncoding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) play critical roles in multiple biologic processes. However, the Small Nucleolar RNA Host Gene 1 (SNHG1) function and underlying molecular mechanisms in ischemic stroke have not yet been reported. In the present study, we found that SNHG1 expression was remarkably increased both in isolated cerebral micro-vessels of a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) mice model, and in oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-cultured mice brain micro-vascular endothelial cells (BMECs), meanwhile, the SNHG1 level was negatively correlated with miR-18a in MCAO mice.

Objective: To investigate the potential role of alpha1-adrenoceptor (α1-AR) in the pathogenesis of hepatorenal syndrome.

Methods: Hepatorenal syndrome was induced in male rats by intraperitoneal injection of D-galactosamine and orally treatment with α1-AR antagonist tamsulosin. Hyperresponsiveness of the renal artery contraction was evaluated by the laser-Doppler flowmetry and multimyograph system, while renal blood flow (cortical and medullary perfusion) was simultaneously measured.

Perspectives of traditional Chinese medicine in pancreas protection for acute pancreatitis.

World J Gastroenterol

May 2017

Jun Li, National Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Biodiagnostics and Biotherapy, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University College of Medicine, Xi'an 710004, Shaanxi Province, China.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most common diseases. AP is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, but it lacks specific and effective therapies. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the most popular complementary and alternative medicine modalities worldwide for the treatment of AP.

The default mode network (DMN) is a complex dynamic network that is critical for understanding cognitive function. However, whether dynamic topological reconfiguration of the DMN occurs across different brain states, and whether this potential reorganization is associated with prior learning or experience is unclear. To better understand the temporally changing topology of the DMN, we investigated both nodal and global dynamic DMN-topology metrics across different brain states.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths with an increasing incidence in China. The aberrant expression of angiomotin (AMOT) has been confirmed in a variety of tumors and can interact with Yes-associated protein (YAP) to either promote or suppress the progression of cancer. Unfortunately, its role in CRC remains poorly elucidated.
