Risk factors and prevention of pancreatic fistula after laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

World J Gastrointest Surg

November 2024

Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University, Xining 810000, Qinghai Province, China.

Following laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG), one of the critical complications that can arise is a pancreatic fistula (PF). The inability to promptly prevent, diagnose, and manage this condition can lead to severe complications and potentially be life-threatening for the patient. The incidence of PF post-LG in gastric cancer treatment is related to factors such as surgical approach, surgical instruments, characteristics of the pancreas itself, tumor stage, and the surgeon's experience.

April 2024

Department of Surgical Oncology, The Affiliated Hospital of Qinghai University, Xining 810001, China. *Corresponding author, E-mail:

Article Synopsis
  • - Patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis show higher numbers of Th17 cells and elevated interleukin 17 (IL-17) levels in their serum and thyroid tissue.
  • - There is an imbalance between Th17 cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs), resulting in a lower Tregs ratio that decreases the thyroid gland's ability to suppress immune responses.
  • - Th17 cells contribute to the progression of Hashimoto's thyroiditis by promoting inflammation and fibrosis in the thyroid tissue through IL-17 production.

Isocitrate dehydrogenase () is an enzymes involved in a variety of metabolic and epigenetic processes. can be detected in approximately 20% of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), the mutated enzyme acquires new oncogenic enzyme activity and converts α-ketoglutaric acid (α-KG) to the tumor metabolite 2-hydroxyglutaric acid (2-HG), which accumulates at high levels in cells and hinders the function of αKG-dependent enzymes, including epigenetic regulators, resulting in DNA hypermethylation, abnormal gene expression, cell proliferation, and abnormal differentiation, and contributes to leukemia disease progression. mutations have different effects on the prognosis of patients with AML depending on the location of the mutation and other co-occurring genomic abnormalities.

Role of protein Post-translational modifications in enterovirus infection.

Front Microbiol

February 2024

Department of Genetics, School of Medicine, Qinghai University, Qinghai, China.

Enteroviruses (EVs) are the main cause of a number of neurological diseases. Growing evidence has revealed that successful infection with enteroviruses is highly dependent on the host machinery, therefore, host proteins play a pivotal role in viral infections. Both host and viral proteins can undergo post-translational modification (PTM) which can regulate protein activity, stability, solubility and interactions with other proteins; thereby influencing various biological processes, including cell metabolism, metabolic, signaling pathways, cell death, and cancer development.
