This study focused on examining the exact role of circulating immune cells in the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR). co-culture experiments showed that peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with type 1 DR crucially modulated the biological functions of human retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRMECs), consequently disrupting their normal functionality. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) study revealed unique differentially expressed genes and pathways in circulating immune cells among healthy controls, non-diabetic retinopathy (NDR) patients, and DR patients.

Background/aim: Interpreting an electrocardiogram (ECG) is a vital skill for nurses in cardiology. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the bridge-in, objective, preassessment, participatory learning, post-assessment, and summary (BOPPPS) model, when combined with case-based learning (CBL), in enhancing nursing students' ECG interpretation capabilities.
Materials & Methods: Nursing students were randomly divided into two groups: one utilizing the BOPPPS model combined with CBL (BOPPPS-CBL), and the other employing a traditional lecture-based learning (LBL) model.

Objective: Recently, the role of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in rheumatic immune diseases has attracted widespread attention. However, knowledge of lncRNA in connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) is limited. This study explored the expression profile and possible mechanisms of lncRNA and mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of CTD-ILD patients, especially systemic sclerosis (SSc)-ILD and rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-ILD.

Objectives: To establish deep learning models for malignancy risk estimation of sub-centimeter pulmonary nodules incidentally detected by chest CT and managed in clinical settings.
Materials And Methods: Four deep learning models were trained using CT images of sub-centimeter pulmonary nodules from West China Hospital, internally tested, and externally validated on three cohorts. The four models respectively learned 3D deep features from the baseline whole lung region, baseline image patch where the nodule located, baseline nodule box, and baseline plus follow-up nodule boxes.

Background: The prognostic value of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) derived from cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is well studied, and several new metrics of LGE have emerged. However, some controversies remain; therefore, further discussion is needed, and more precise risk stratification should be explored.
Aim: To investigate the associations between the positivity, extent, location, and pattern of LGE and multiple outcomes in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

The abnormal activation of the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)/nod-like receptor family-pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) signaling pathway is closely related to early brain injury after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Targeting the NLRP3-inflammasome has been considered an efficient therapy for the local inflammatory response after SAH. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA), a major component extracted from Salvia miltiorrhiza, has been reported to have anti-inflammatory effects.

Background: Maresin1 (MaR1) is a potent lipid mediator that exhibits significant anti-inflammatory activity in the context of several inflammatory diseases. A previous study reported that MaR1 could suppress MSU crystal-induced peritonitis in mice. To date, the molecular mechanism by which MaR1 inhibits MSU crystal-induced inflammation remains poorly understood.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications have significantly increased the burden of mortality and disability globally, making diabetes one of the most dangerous and prevalent chronic diseases. Acute pancreatitis (AP) is one of the most frequent gastrointestinal causes for hospital admission, which is a common exocrine pancreatic inflammatory disease that can cause severe abdominal pain and multiple organ dysfunction. There is an inseparable relationship between AP and diabetes.

The detoxified pneumolysin derivative ΔA146Ply has been proven to have a direct anti-triple negative breast cancer effect by our group, but its work model remains unclear. In this study, we focused on its ability to inhibit triple-negative breast cancer metastasis. We found that ΔA146Ply suppressed the migration and invasion of triple-negative breast cancer cells by activating mannose receptor and toll-like receptor 4.

Background: The efficacy of current surgery and chemotherapy for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is limited due to heterogenous and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs), which are regarded as an M2 tumor-promoting phenotype, are crucial in the development of the immunosuppressive TME. Targeting TAM reprograming is a promising strategy in anti-tumor therapy since reprogramming techniques provide the opportunity to actively enhance the antitumor immunological activity of TAM in addition to eliminating their tumor-supportive roles, which is rarely applied in TNBC clinically.

Autophagy is a primary mechanism for maintaining cellular homeostasis. The synergistic actions of autophagy-related (ATG) proteins strictly regulate the whole autophagic process. Therefore, accurate identification of ATGs is a first and critical step to reveal the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of autophagy.
