Puerariae Lobatae Radix, as a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) with both medicinal and edible properties, possesses effects such as relieving muscle tension and fever, generating fluids and quenching thirst, and unblocking the meridians and collaterals. Modern fermentation technology, combined with microecology and modern bioengineering, can regulate the fermentation process and efficiently produce fermentation products. In recent years, modern fermentation technology has been widely applied in TCM, enhancing or altering efficacy, reducing toxicity, and expanding the scope of clinical applications.

Nitric oxide in the cardio-cerebrovascular system: Source, regulation and application.

Nitric Oxide

November 2024

National Pharmaceutical Engineering Center for Solid Preparation in Chinese Herbal Medicine, Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Nanchang, 330006, China. Electronic address:

Nitric oxide (NO) plays a crucial role as a messenger or effector in the body, yet it presents a dual impact on cardio-cerebrovascular health. Under normal physiological conditions, NO exhibits vasodilatory effects, regulates blood pressure, inhibits platelet aggregation, and offers neuroprotective actions. However, in pathological situations, excessive NO production contributes to or worsens inflammation within the body.

Importance: Choledocholithiasis, or bile duct gallstones, is effectively treated with surgery, which does not prevent relapse. A common adjuvant therapy is the stimulation of the Yanglingquan point (GB34). Acupoint catgut embedding (ACE), an acupoint stimulation therapy, may be a better treatment for choledocholithiasis.

The occurrence of in-stent restenosis (ISR) poses a significant challenge for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Thus, the promotion of vascular reendothelialization is essential to inhibit endothelial proliferation. In this study, we clarified the mechanism by which Detoxification and Activating Blood Circulation Decoction (DABCD) promotes vascular reendothelialization to avoid ISR by miRNA-126-mediated modulation of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway.

Many traditional Chinese medicine monomers, such as naringin (NG), can regulate the local immune microenvironment to benefit osteogenesis. However, the rapid release of NG from scaffolds severely influences the osteogenesis-promoting effect. Herein, NG was loaded into mesoporous bioglass (MBG) to achieve sustained release through physical adsorption and the barrier role of mesoporous channels, then MBG loaded with NG was added to poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) to fabricate composite scaffolds by selective laser sintering (SLS) technology.

Institute of Additive Manufacturing, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, Nanchang 330013, China; State Key Laboratory of Precision Manufacturing for Extreme Service Performance, College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China. Electronic address:

Bioceramics have been extensively used to improve osteogenesis of polymers because of their excellent bone-forming capabilities. However, the inadequate interfacial bonding between ceramics and polymers compromises their mechanical properties. In this study, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was grown in situ on strontium carbonate (SrCO) to construct a core-shell SrCO@ZIF-8, which was then added to poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) to print a SrCO@ZIF-8/PLLA composite scaffold using selective sintering technology.

Moxibustion has been shown to have a potential antihypertensive effect, but its applicability for the primary care of hypertension is unclear. The authors conducted a multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) with patient preference arms to investigate the effect, safety, cost-effectiveness, and compliance of moxibustion in community patients with hypertension. Patients with primary hypertension were enrolled from seven communities randomly or nonrandomly assigned to receive self-administered moxibustion + the original hypertensive regimen or the original hypertensive regimen alone for 6 months.

Research Progress on the Mechanism of Nanoparticles Crossing the Intestinal Epithelial Cell Membrane.

Pharmaceutics

June 2023

National Pharmaceutical Engineering Center for Solid Preparation in Chinese Herbal Medicine, Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine, Nanchang 330006, China.

Improving the stability of drugs in the gastrointestinal tract and their penetration ability in the mucosal layer by implementing a nanoparticle delivery strategy is currently a research focus in the pharmaceutical field. However, for most drugs, nanoparticles failed in enhancing their oral absorption on a large scale (4 folds or above), which hinders their clinical application. Recently, several researchers have proved that the intestinal epithelial cell membrane crossing behaviors of nanoparticles deeply influenced their oral absorption, and relevant reviews were rare.

Low-dose lipopolysaccharide inducing continuous and obvious increase in urinary protein in hyperglycemic rats and the underlying mechanism.

PLoS One

July 2023

Department of Pharmacy, State Key Laboratory of Innovative Drugs and Efficient Energy-Saving Pharmaceutical Equipment, Nanchang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Proteinuria, a key indicator of diabetic nephropathy, is typically slow to develop and unstable, prompting researchers to explore low-dose lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as a means to induce rapid and stable proteinuria in hyperglycemic rats.
  • After inducing hyperglycemia through a combination of a high-fat diet and streptozotocin injection, the study found that administering 0.8 mg/kg LPS led to a significant and prolonged increase in urinary microalbumin (umALB) levels in the rats.
  • The findings indicated that LPS exposure resulted in notable changes in kidney proteins related to podocyte function and inflammation, as well as marked pathological changes such as thickened glomerular basement membranes
