Purpose: Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is an important cause of back pain and sciatica, but its aetiology is not fully understood. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in specific collagen genes are known to increase the risk of lumbar disc degeneration. We performed a case-control study among the Chinese Han population to investigate whether genetic variations in collagen genes were associated with the risk of LDH or not.

Background: Lumbar disc herniation, a type of chronic low back pain syndrome, is caused by the lumbar intervertebral disk degeneration. Genetic variation in the CHRNA5/CHRNA3 has shown strong associations with smoking-related diseases. This study's aim is to test whether single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the CHRNA5/CHRNA3 gene are associated with lumbar disc herniation risk.

Inner Mongolia cashmere goat marks a precious gerplasm genetic resource due to its excellent cashmere traits. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to investigate the cashmere development mechanism of cashmere goat and to search for the important cashmere growth-related candidate genes. Fetal skin samples at 10 different periods of cashmere goat were collected in this research.

To date, the most frequently reported neuroimaging biomarkers in Parkinson's disease (PD) are direct brain imaging measurements focusing on local disrupted regions. However, the notion that PD is related to abnormal functional and structural connectivity has received support in the past few years. Here, we employed graph theory to analyze the structural co-variance networks derived from 50 PD patients and 48 normal controls (NC).

Background: Poor inter-rater reliability in chest radiograph interpretation has been reported in the context of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), although not for the Berlin definition of ARDS. We sought to examine the effect of training material on the accuracy and consistency of intensivists' chest radiograph interpretations for ARDS diagnosis.

Methods: We conducted a rater agreement study in which 286 intensivists (residents 41.

Background: Urine output (UO) is an essential criterion of the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) definition and classification system for acute kidney injury (AKI), of which the diagnostic value has not been extensively studied. We aimed to determine whether AKI based on KDIGO UO criteria (KDIGOUO) could improve the diagnostic and prognostic accuracy, compared with KDIGO serum creatinine criteria (KDIGOSCr).

Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of the database of a previous study conducted by China Critical Care Clinical Trial Group (CCCCTG), which was a 2-month prospective cohort study (July 1, 2009 to August 31, 2009) involving 3063 patients in 22 tertiary Intensive Care Units in Mainland of China.

Background: Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is an inflammatory mediator released by macrophages that is central to the innate immune system, with an upstream role in the inflammatory cascade. MIF is one of the most important pathogenic factors in the development of the autoimmune diseases. In the current study, we investigated the role of MIF in anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-induced neutrophil activation.

A novel mutation in SIRT1-AS leading to a decreased risk of HCC.

Oncol Rep

November 2015

Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical College, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, P.R. China.

Natural antisense transcripts (NATs) have recently been associated with the development of human cancers. However, the interrelationship between NATs and their sense transcripts in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been well-characterized. The aim of the present study was to characterize the AS lncRNA SIRT1-AS, which suppressed the miRNA-induced translational repression of SIRT1 mRNA by masking the miR-29c binding site on the SIRT1 3'UTR.

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have reproducibly associated ∼40 susceptibility loci with psoriasis. However, the missing heritability is evident and the contributions of coding variants have not yet been systematically evaluated. Here, we present a large-scale whole-exome array analysis for psoriasis consisting of 42,760 individuals.
