Education and metabolic syndrome: a Mendelian randomization study.

Aims: The metabolic syndrome (MetS), a collection of conditions that heighten the risk of disease development and impose economic burdens on patients. However, the causal relationship between education and MetS was uncertain. In this study, the Mendelian randomization (MR) method was employed to elucidate the potential causal link between education and the MetS and its components.

Hormonal interventions in skin wounds - a mini review.

The ability to heal from wounds is perhaps the most important biological function that ensures our survival and perpetuation. Cutaneous wound healing typically consists of four characteristic stages, namely hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling, which are carefully carried out by coordinated actions of various cells, cytokines, and hormones. Incoordination of these steps may impede complete and efficient reconstruction and functional recovery of wounds or even lead to worsened outcomes.

Ischemic stroke and sarcopenia have an asymmetric bidirectional relationship based on a two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Background: We investigated the potential relationship between age-related conditions, particularly sarcopenia and ischemic stroke (IS), through a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study.

Methods: We conducted a two-sample bidirectional MR study to investigate the relationship between sarcopenia and stroke. Genetic instruments for sarcopenia were derived from the UK Biobank, while data on IS and its subtypes were obtained from the MEGASTROKE consortium.

Correlation of TyG-BMI and TyG-WC with severity and short-term outcome in new-onset acute ischemic stroke.

Objectives: To research the connection between the indexes of the indexes of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) combined with obesity indices and the initial neurological severity and short-term outcome of new-onset acute ischemic stroke.

Methods: Data of patients with acute ischemic stroke admitted to the Stroke Ward of the Affiliated Hospital of Beihua University from November 2021 to October 2023, were collected. The two indexes were calculated by combining TyG and obesity indices: TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI) and TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC).

Abnormal expression of long non‑coding RNA LINC01270 in glioma and its correlation with X‑ray computed tomography signs.

This study focused on the association of LINC01270 and computed tomography (CT) signs with glioma development, to evaluate their potential in the early detection of glioma. Serum LINC01270 was evaluated in glioma patients and healthy individuals using PCR. The involvement of LINC01270 in glioma onset and development was evaluated by ROC and chi‑square test.

A novel clinical tool and risk stratification system for predicting the event-free survival of neuroblastoma patients: A TARGET-based study.

Neuroblastoma (NB), considered the most common non-intracranial solid tumor in children, accounts for nearly 8% of pediatric malignancies. This study aimed to develop a simple and practical nomogram to predict event-free survival (EFS) in NB patients and establish a new risk stratification system. In this study, 763 patients primarily diagnosed with NB in the Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments (TARGET) database were included and randomly assigned to a training set (70%) and a validation set (30%) in a 7:3 ratio.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is among several general malignant gynecological cancers associated with high mortality rates on a global scale. Earlier investigations have revealed a critical role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in OC development, which is a new class of endogenous non-coding RNA (ncRNA) that reported to mediate progression of diverse tumor types. At present, the precise involvement of circRNAs and associated regulatory mechanisms in OC remain unknown.

Knowledge, attitude, and practices on COVID-19 prevention and diagnosis among medical workers in the radiology department: A multicenter cross-sectional study in China.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of medical workers in the radiology department toward the prevention and diagnosis of COVID-19.

Methods: This multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted among medical workers in the radiology department of 17 hospitals between March and June 2022.

Results: A total of 324 medical workers were enrolled.

Evaluating thermosensitive chitosan/ β-glycerophosphate sodium and fibroblast embolization for the treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformation in a porcine model.

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of non-sticky thermosensitive liquid embolic material chitosan/β-glycerophosphate sodium (C/GP) and fibroblast embolization in rete mirabile (REM) for preparing the model of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (cAVM); to study the method of microcatheter injection of C/GP-gel system; and to observe the embolization effect and histological changes of REM.

Methods: A total of 26 domestic pigs were grouped and prepared designed models, followed by different treatment methods using C/GP. C/GP embolization of the REM were performed.

Recently, the role of FGF19 in neurological diseases has been reported. However, the effect and mechanisms of FGF19 in improving symptoms of POCD remain unknown.

Efficacy and safety of janagliflozin monotherapy in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled on diet and exercise: A multicentre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, Phase 3 trial.

Aims: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of janagliflozin, a selective renal sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor, as monotherapy in drug-naive Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Materials And Methods: This Phase 3 trial included a 24-week, multicentre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled period, followed by a 28-week extension period. A total of 432 patients with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels ≥7.

Hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype: Association with initial neurological severity and etiologic subtypes in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Objective: To explore the relationship of hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype (HTWP) with initial neurological severity and etiologic subtypes in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

Methods: The data for this study were collected from hospitalized patients within 72 h of acute ischemic stroke onset at the Department of Neurology of the Affiliated Hospital of Beihua University from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2022. The initial neurological severity was assessed by the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) on the day of admission: NIHSS <6 was defined as mild stroke, and NIHSS ≥6 as moderate to severe stroke.

Objective: To explore the clinical diagnostic value of DNA image cytometry (DNA-ICM) ploidy analysis in malignant pleural effusion cancer screening, this study analyzed the effect of exfoliated cell smears (ECSs), cell blocks (CBs), and immunochemistry.

Method: A total of 830 cases of pleural effusion were considered for the DNA-ICM ploidy analysis. The ECSs were centrifuged, the CBs were formed, and the DNA-ICM ploidy analysis was carried out in the diagnosis of malignant pleural effusion.

Background: Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) are two unexplained immune diseases. The golden standard for diagnosis of these diseases requires a liver biopsy. Liver biopsy is not widely accepted by patients because of its invasive nature, and atypical liver histology can confuse diagnosis.

Surgical Treatment of Hand and Foot Gout Stone and Influence Factors on Prognosis.

Purpose: To explore the technique of surgical treatment of hand and foot gout stone by using 3D CT reconstruction images and influence factors on prognosis.

Method: 48 cases of hand and foot gout were treated surgically and retrospective analyzed. Before operation, we used 3D CT reconstruction images to check the accurate site and amount of uric acid (white chalk foam) deposition.

Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Medical Analysis for Intracranial Cerebral Hemorrhage Detection and Classification.

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) becomes a crucial healthcare emergency, which requires earlier detection and accurate assessment. Owing to the increased death rate (around 40%), the earlier recognition and classification of disease using computed tomography (CT) images are necessary to ensure a favourable prediction and restrain the existence of neurologic deficits. Since the manual diagnosis approach is time-consuming, automated ICH detection and classification models using artificial intelligence (AI) models are required.

Association Between Cardiometabolic Index and Stroke: A Population- based Cross-sectional Study.

Background: Cardiometabolic Index (CMI) was associated with several risk factors for stroke; however, few studies assessed the role of CMI in stroke risk.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the association between CMI and stroke in a population- based cross-sectional study.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant disease with high morbidity and mortality rates in children and adolescents. Evidence has indicated that long non‑coding RNAs (lncRNAs) may serve important roles in human cancer progression, including OS. In the present study, the role of lnc‑double homeobox A pseudogene 8 (DUXAP8) in the development of OS was identified.

Sex-based differences in and risk factors for metabolic syndrome in adults aged 40 years and above in Northeast China: Results from the cross-sectional China national stroke screening survey.

Objectives: Low levels of income and education are risk factors for metabolic syndrome in the population of Northeast China, which has a high incidence of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to determine sex-based differences associated with the prevalence of and risk factors for metabolic syndrome among people older than 40 years in Northeast China; this has not been previously investigated.

Design: This study analysed a portion of the large sample data of the national cross-sectional screening of China from 2016.

Comprehensive analysis of molecular pathways and key genes involved in lumbar disc herniation.

Based on the Thompson classification of intervertebral discs (IVDs), we systematically analyzed gene expression differences between severely degenerated and mildly degenerated IVDs and explored the underlying molecular mechanisms using bioinformatics methods and multichip integration. We used multiomics analysis, includes mRNA microarray and methylation chips, to explore the genetic network and mechanisms of lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Subsequently, the Combat function of the R language SVA package was applied to eliminate heterogeneity between the gene expression data.

Effects of Bronchoalveolar Lavage with Ambroxol Hydrochloride on Treating Pulmonary Infection in Patients with Cerebral Infarction and on Serum Proinflammatory Cytokines, MDA and SOD.

Objective: This paper was aimed at investigating the effects of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) with ambroxol hydrochloride (AH) on treating pulmonary infection and on serum proinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress responses in patients with cerebral infarction (CI).

Methods: One hundred and two patients with cerebral infarction complicated with pulmonary infection (CIPI) who were treated in our hospital were enrolled as research objects, divided into an observation group (52 cases; AH combined with BAL) and a control group (50 cases; single AH) based on therapeutic schemes. They were compared in terms of the therapeutic effect and pre- and posttreatment serum inflammatory cytokines, pulmonary function, and serum indices of oxidative stress.
