Article Synopsis
  • A phase II clinical trial suggested that telitacicept might effectively reduce proteinuria in patients with IgA nephropathy (IgAN), prompting a larger retrospective study to confirm its efficacy and safety.
  • The study followed 97 patients treated with telitacicept over three months, showing significant reductions in proteinuria at 2, 4, and 6 months compared to baseline, while eGFR levels remained stable.
  • The findings indicate that telitacicept can safely lower proteinuria, but further research in larger phase III trials is needed to assess long-term kidney protection.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae-induced Kawasaki disease via PINK1/Parkin-mediated mitophagy.

Exp Cell Res

August 2024

Department of Pediatrics, Fujian Children's Hospital(Fujian Branch of Shanghai Children's Medical Center), College of Clinical Medicine for Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou 350001, PR China; College of Clinical Medicine for Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics, Fujian Medical University, Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital, Fuzhou 350001, PR China. Electronic address:

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a systemic vasculitis with an unknown cause that primarily affects children. The objective of this study was to explore the function and underlying mechanism of mitophagy in Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP)-induced KD. To create MP-induced KD models, Human coronary endothelial cells (HCAECs) and DBA/2 mice were employed and treated with Mp-Lipid-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs).

Assessment of the correlation between supracrestal gingival tissue dimensions and other periodontal phenotypes components via the digital registration method: a cross‑sectional study in a Chinese population.

BMC Oral Health

April 2024

Fujian Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases & Fujian Provincial Engineering Research Center of Oral Biomaterial & Stomatological Key Lab of Fujian College and University, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou, 350001, China.

Background: Supracrestal gingival tissue dimensions (SGTDs) has been considered to be an essential element of periodontal phenotype (PP) components. This study aimed to explore the relationship between SGTDs and other PP components by digital superposition method that integrated cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) with intraoral scanning.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Stomatology Hospital of Fujian Medical University.

Background And Aims: Accurate prediction is essential for the survival of patients with nonmetastatic gastric signet ring cell carcinoma (GSRC) and medical decision-making. Current models rely on prespecified variables, limiting their performance and not being suitable for individual patients. Our study is aimed at developing a more precise model for predicting 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival (OS) in patients with nonmetastatic GSRC based on a machine learning approach.

Background: The implementation of indocyanine green (ICG) tracer-guided lymph node dissection is still in the preliminary stages of laparoscopic surgery, and its safety and efficacy for gastric cancer remain unclear.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Scopus to identify relevant subjects from inception to June 2022. The core indicators were the total number of harvested lymph nodes and the safety of the laparoscopic gastrectomy with ICG.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical value of radiotherapy combined with Camrelizumab in treating locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Methods: 80 locally advanced NSCLC patients were randomly divided into two groups (n=40). The control group was administered with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), whereas the experimental group with Camrelizumab in addition to IMRT.

Dexmedetomidine, a potent α2-adrenoceptor (α2-AR) agonist, is extensively used in the operating room (OR) and intensive care unit (ICU) and has been applied for the treatment of several diseases. Western blotting has been routinely used to investigate the protein levels of α-adrenergic receptor (α-AR), apoptosis related proteins (Bcl-2, Bax and Cleaved Caspase 3) and a range of proteins associated with the Nrf2/ARE pathway (Nrf2, HO-1, NQO-1, SOD) in neurons. The CCK-8 assay was used to determine cell survival rates while the Co-IP assay was used to investigate the binding ability between α2-AR and Nrf2.

Background: Artificial insemination with the husband's semen (AIH) is an economical and noninvasive method of infertility treatment. However, AIH's pregnancy rate is much lower than in vitro fertilization (IVF) as its multiple and complex uncertainty factors. Semen quality has been one of the main factors which affect the pregnancy outcome of AIH.

Traditional computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) processes include feature extraction, selection, and classification. Effective feature extraction in CAD is important in improving the classification's performance. We introduce a machine-learning method and have designed an analysis procedure of benign and malignant breast tumour classification in ultrasound (US) images without a need for a priori tumour region-selection processing, thereby decreasing clinical diagnosis efforts while maintaining high classification performance.

Hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury has a high occurrence rate of 1-4 per 1000 live births and is the leading cause of neurological disabilities. Despite the improvement in neonatal care, the effectiveness of current therapeutic strategies is limited, and thus, additional therapies with better results are of much needed. Pterostilbene is a stilbenoid possessing numerous preventive and therapeutic properties.

Indocyanine green fluorescence method for sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer.

Asian J Surg

December 2020

Epidemiology and Biostatistics Center, Changhua Christian Hospital, 135, Nanhsiao Street, Changhua, 50006, Taiwan.

Background/objective: Breast biopsy and analysis of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) accurately predict tumor status in the affected basin and help in avoiding unnecessary axillary lymph node dissection, which is associated with remarkable morbidity risk. Blue dye and radioisotope are the most widely used mapping agents, but non-radioactive tracers of comparable accuracy warrant further investigation. This study aimed to investigate utilization of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence in sentinel node localization compared with blue dye and to assess the incremental value of ICG.

Cumulative estrogen concentration is an important determinant of the risk of developing breast cancer. Estrogen carcinogenesis is attributed to the combination of receptor-driven mitogenesis and DNA damage induced by quinonoid metabolites of estrogen. The present study was focused on developing an improved breast cancer prediction model using estrogen quinone-protein adduct concentrations.
