Article Synopsis
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) shows promise in improving healing rates and reducing amputations in patients with diabetic foot ulcers compared to standard treatments.
  • A meta-analysis included 29 randomized controlled trials with 1,764 patients, indicating a higher complete healing rate (46.76% vs. 24.46%) and lower amputation rate (26.03% vs. 45.00%) with HBOT.
  • However, patients receiving HBOT experienced a higher rate of adverse events (17.37% vs. 8.27%), and there was no significant difference in mortality rates between groups.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a usual oral cancer. Therefore, it's essential to identify targets for its early diagnosis and therapy. This research aimed to explore the roles of human β-defensin-3 (hBD-3) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) p65 in the pathogenesis and progression of OSCC.

On a global scale, cardiovascular disease has become one of the most serious diseases that endangers human health and causes death and seriously threatens human life and health. If we can make accurate, timely, and effective judgments on cardiovascular-related parameters and take corresponding effective measures, the incidence of cardiovascular diseases can be reduced to a large extent. Based on this, this paper proposes the clinical application research of ultrasound virtual reality technology in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

CYP3A4 and CYP11A1 variants are risk factors for ischemic stroke: a case control study.

BMC Neurol

March 2020

Department of Neurosurgery, Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, Haikou People's Hospital, #43, People's Avenue, Haidian Island, Haikou, 570208, Hainan, China.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the roles of CYP3A4 and CYP11A1 variants in ischemic stroke (IS) susceptibility among the Han Chinese population.

Methods: Four hundred seventy-seven patients with IS and 493 healthy controls were enrolled. Seven single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of CYP3A4 and CYP11A1 were genotyped by Agena MassARRAY.

Some previous studies suggested telomere length was associated with the risk of ischemic stroke (IS). The aim of this study was to further confirm the association between relative telomere length (RTL) and risk of IS and to especially explore its correlation with the risk of high-risk stroke population in southern Chinese Han. RTL was determined by using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction from 400 ischemic stroke patients, 409 high-risk stroke populations and 399 healthy controls.

Association analysis of gene polymorphisms with ischemic stroke risk: a case-control study in a Chinese Han population.

Oncotarget

September 2017

Department of Neurosurgery, Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, Haikou People's Hospital, Haikou, Hainan, China.

This study aimed to assess the association of gene polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk in a Chinese Han population. In this case-control study, we genotyped 14 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 3 genes in 488 cases and 503 controls using Sequenom Mass-ARRAY technology and evaluated their association with ischemic stroke using the χ2 and genetic model analysis. In the allelic model analysis, we determined three SNPs were significantly associated with ischemic stroke: rs693 with a value of 0.

ZNF208 polymorphisms associated with ischemic stroke in a southern Chinese Han population.

J Gene Med

January 2017

Department of Neurology, Affiliated Haikou Hospital of Xiangya Medical College of Central South University, Haikou Municipal Hospital, Haikou, Hainan, China.

Background: Ischemic stroke is one of the most common diseases with a high burden of neurological deficits, disability and death. Zinc finger protein 208 (ZNF208) was found to be involved in coronary heart disease, although little information is available about its association with ischemic stroke. We performed the present case-control study to clarify the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within ZNF208 and the risk of ischemic stroke in a southern Chinese Han population.

Cooperation of Genomic and Rapid Nongenomic Actions of Estrogens in Synaptic Plasticity.

Mol Neurobiol

August 2017

Department of Neurology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Neurology, 1 Youyi Road, Chongqing, 400016, China.

Neuroplasticity refers to the changes in the molecular and cellular processes of neural circuits that occur in response to environmental experiences. Clinical and experimental studies have increasingly shown that estrogens participate in the neuroplasticity involved in cognition, behavior, and memory. It is generally accepted that estrogens exert their effects through genomic actions that occur over a period of hours to days.

Down-regulation of adenylate kinase 5 in temporal lobe epilepsy patients and rat model.

J Neurol Sci

July 2016

Department of Neurology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Neurology, 1 Youyi Road, Chongqing 400016, China. Electronic address:

Adenylate kinase 5 (AK5) is one member of the AK family and plays a critical role in maintaining cellular homeostasis. Different from the other AKs, AK5 is almost exclusively expressed in the brain. However, its exact biological functions remain unclear.
