Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed communication barriers between healthcare workers (HCWs) and deaf/hard-of-hearing (DHH) patients, employing surveys and interviews to capture perspectives from both groups.
  • Results showed that DHH patients’ self-efficacy in communication was more influential than their hearing loss, with major barriers identified as HCWs' unfamiliarity with effective communication methods and overall difficulties in ER settings.
  • To enhance access to healthcare, particularly in emergencies, the study emphasizes the need for communication training for medical staff and suggests implementing a communication policy for frontline workers.

Objective: Disordered eating cognitions and behaviours in childhood and adolescence have been identified as precursors for the development of eating disorders. Another important contributor to eating disorder risk is maladaptive emotion regulation. However, while the regulation of negative affect has been the focus of much research, the literature on the role of positive emotion regulation in eating pathology is extremely limited.

Immediate therapist self-disclosure (Im-TSD) can be a powerful intervention. When engaged in judiciously, it can provide clients with a unique opportunity to explore their interpersonal relationship in real time. Relational theories suggest that for Im-TSD to be effective, both client and therapist must have temporally congruent perceptions of its occurrence.

Methods: During June 2017, a cross-sectional survey was conducted using stratified sampling from a large-scale Israeli volunteer online panel.

While previous studies have indicated that therapists' self-disclosure (TSD) can have curative effects, the contextual variables that may moderate the link between TSD and treatment outcome have not been sufficiently explored. Using session-by-session psychotherapy data, we examined the extent to which within-client distress and between-clients emotion regulation difficulties moderated the associations between TSD and session outcomes. The sample comprised 68 clients treated according to the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy by 47 therapists in a university clinic.

School of Behavioral Science, The Academic College Tel-Aviv-Yaffo; Department of Education and Psychology, Open University;

Depression is a highly prevalent and debilitating condition, only partially addressed by current pharmacotherapies. The lack of response to treatment by many patients prompts the need to develop new therapeutic alternatives and to better understand the etiology of the disorder. Pre-clinical models with translational merits are rudimentary for this task.

Neuroplasticity-related mechanisms underlying the antidepressant-like effects of traditional herbal medicines.

Department of Education and Psychology, The Open University of Israel, Ra'anana, Israel; School of Behavioral Sciences, The Academic College Tel Aviv Yaffo, Tel Aviv, Israel. Electronic address:

Traditional herbal medicine can offer efficacious and safe alternative pharmacotherapies for depression. The ability of an herbal medicine to produce neuroadaptive processes, that enhance neuroplasticity and cellular resilience in response to chronic stress, may point to its antidepressant potential. We suggest that among many investigated herbal medicines, those that can enhance neuroplasticity may have stronger therapeutic potential.
