Article Synopsis
  • - Broccoli is packed with nutrients and antioxidants, but research on how often it needs to be eaten to reduce mortality risks was lacking.
  • - A study of over 12,000 adults found that eating broccoli even once or twice a week significantly lowered the risk of dying from all causes—by 32-43%—and more frequent consumption reduced risks related to cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
  • - The findings suggest that regular broccoli consumption can lower overall mortality risks, with optimal intake differing between men (1-2 times per week) and women (3 or more times per week).

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype of breast cancer with poor prognosis and high heterogeneity. The aim of this study was to screen patients for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with the prognosis of TNBC. Database-derived SNPs (NextBio, Ensembl, NCBI and MirSNP) located in the 3'-untranslated regions (3'-UTRs) of genes that are differentially expressed in breast cancer were selected.

Remote ischemic conditioning: a novel way to treat ischemia-related injury of limbs.

Med Hypotheses

May 2015

Department of Orthopedics, Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Capital Medical University, The 9th Clinical College, PKU, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) including remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) and remote ischemic postconditioning (RIPostC) is widely reported to be able to prevent many organs, such as heart, brain, and skeletal muscle from ischemia-related injury. However, the clinical application of RIC is confined to treating myocardial infarction and stroke. Since RIC could prevent skeletal muscle from ischemia-related injury, and was effective in heart and brain treatments, we hypothesized RIC could treat ischemia-related injury of limbs, such as diabetic foot, Buerger's disease, plantation of severed limb, and crush injury.

Could microbe stimulated maggots become a targeted natural antibiotics family?

Med Hypotheses

July 2014

Department of Orthopedics, Beijing Shijitan hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing 100038, China. Electronic address:

Maggot debridement therapy plays an important role in treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and other chronic infectious wounds, cause of this is its extremely low drug resistance. However, the microbe stimulated maggot, we may call it a derivative of normal sterile maggot, could exhibit stronger bacterial or bactericidal effects. Methods of the pretreatment on maggot was different germ solution were artificially mixed and added with originally sterile maggots, the novel secretions were collected.
