Objective: This study proposes a system for classifying the aseptic loosening of distal femoral endoprostheses and discusses reconstruction methods for revision surgery, based on different classification types.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of patients who received revision surgery for aseptic loosening in distal femoral tumor endoprosthesis from January 2008 to December 2020 at 3 bone tumor treatment centers in China. Based on the patient imaging data, we proposed a classification system for the aseptic loosening of distal femoral endoprostheses and discussed its revision surgery strategy for various bone defects.

Excessive inflammatory responses contribute to the pathogenesis and lethality of highly pathogenic human coronaviruses, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, the N proteins of highly pathogenic human coronaviruses, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), middle east respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), were found to bind MASP-2, a key serine protease in the lectin pathway of complement activation, resulting in excessive complement activation by potentiating MBL-dependent MASP-2 activation, and the deposition of MASP-2, C4b, activated C3 and C5b-9. Aggravated inflammatory lung injury was observed in mice infected with adenovirus expressing the N protein.

Rationale: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a primary malignant bone tumor that originates in the mesenchymal tissue. It is the most common type of pleomorphic tumor occurring in children and adolescents. Currently, there is no established systematic treatment for OS that progresses during standard preoperative chemotherapy.

Previous studies evaluating the role of magnesium supplementation as a preventative strategy for preeclampsia showed inconsistent results. We performed a meta-analysis or randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the influence of oral magnesium supplementation on the incidence of preeclampsia in pregnant women. Relevant studies were obtained by search of Medline, Embase, and Cochrane's Library databases.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of ultrasound-guided bilateral cervical plexus block on general anesthesia, postoperative analgesia, and surgical outcomes in patients undergoing total parathyroidectomy with autotransplantation.

Patients And Methods: Forty-eight ASA III-IV patients with hyperparathyroidism secondary to renal failure were included: 24 patients received ultrasound-guided bilateral superficial and deep cervical plexus block combined with general anesthesia (group A), and 24 patients received general anesthesia alone (group B). Postoperative patient-controlled intravenous analgesia was provided with sufentanil 2 μg/kg.

The clinical and molecular implications of DNA methylation alterations remain unclear among the majority of glioblastomas (GBMs) without glioma-CpGs island methylator phenotype (G-CIMP); integrative multi-level molecular profiling may provide useful information. Independent cohorts of non-G-CIMP GBMs or wild type (wt) lower-grade gliomas (LGGs) from local and public databases with DNA methylation and gene expression microarray data were included for discovery and validation of a multimarker signature, combined using a RISK score model. Bioinformatic and functional analyses were employed for biological validation.

Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery, the 960th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army of China, Jinan 250031, China.

To evaluate the complications of Da Vinci robotic thyroid surgery by bilateral axillo-breast approach. A retrospective analysis of complications was conducted on 1, 198 cases of Da Vinci robotic thyroid surgery by bilateral axillo-breast approach of the 960 th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army from February 2014 to March 2020. There were 263 men and 935 women, age ranged from 9 to 68 years old, and included 288 benign lesions and 910 malignancies according to preoperative imaging examination, FNAC, and intraoperative frozen pathology.

Background: Intra-articular (IA) corticosteroid injection is a commonly used therapy for frozen shoulder (FS), but controversy still exists regarding the injection site with the best outcome. This randomized controlled trial is designed to determine whether corticosteroid injection into the subacromial space was not inferior to IA injection in patients with FS.

Methods: This study will be a single-center, randomized, and double-blinded trial.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated two surgical treatments for giant cell tumors in the proximal humerus and their impact on upper-extremity function.
  • It analyzed 27 cases from Chinese medical centers and compared outcomes between curettage and segmental resection.
  • Results showed lower recurrence rates and better postoperative function in the curettage group, suggesting it's the preferred treatment for these tumors.

Novel predictive epigenetic signature for temozolomide in non-G-CIMP glioblastomas.

Clin Epigenetics

May 2019

Department of Neurosurgery, Xijing Institute of Clinical Neuroscience, Xijing Hospital, Air Force Medical University, West Road, No. 169 Xi'an, Changle, 710032, Shaanxi Province, China.

Objective: To identify novel epigenetic signatures that could provide predictive information that is complementary to promoter methylation status of the O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) gene for predicting temozolomide (TMZ) response, among glioblastomas (GBMs) without glioma-CpGs island methylator phenotype (G-CIMP) METHODS: Different cohorts of primary non-G-CIMP GBMs with genome-wide DNA methylation microarray data were included for discovery and validation of a multimarker signature, combined using a RISK score model. Different statistical analyses and functional experiments were performed for clinical and biological validation.

Results: By employing discovery cohorts with radiotherapy (RT) and TMZ versus RT alone and a strict multistep selection strategy, we identified seven CpGs, each of which was significantly correlated with overall survival (OS) of non-G-CIMP GBMs with RT/TMZ, independent of age, MGMT promoter methylation status, and other identified CpGs.
