Electronic address:

Despite significant advancements in anticancer nanotherapeutics, the efficient encapsulation of multiple therapeutic modalities within single nanocarriers remains challenging due to the complex requirements of supramolecular self-assembly and/or chemical modification. These intricate synthesis procedures often impede the clinical translation of promising nanomedicines. In this study, we introduce a cost-effective and straightforward self-assembling cytotoxic nanotherapeutic strategy that enables the noncovalent incorporation of water-insoluble anticancer molecular inhibitors with high drug loading.

This comprehensive review examines the relationship between osteoarthritis (OA) and osteoporosis (OP), two common disorders in the elderly. OA involves joint cartilage degeneration and pain, while OP leads to fractures due to reduced bone mass. Despite different pathologies, both conditions share risk factors such as age and genetics.

Bone Fracture Healing under the Intervention of a Stretchable Ultrasound Array.

ACS Nano

July 2024

Department of Engineering Mechanics, Soft Matter Research Center, Key Laboratory of Soft Machines and Smart Devices of Zhejiang Province, State Key Laboratory of Brain-Machine Intelligence, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China.

Ultrasound treatment has been recognized as an effective and noninvasive approach to promote fracture healing. However, traditional rigid ultrasound probe is bulky, requiring cumbersome manual operations and inducing unfavorable side effects when functioning, which precludes the wide application of ultrasound in bone fracture healing. Here, we report a stretchable ultrasound array for bone fracture healing, which features high-performance 1-3 piezoelectric composites as transducers, stretchable multilayered serpentine metal films in a bridge-island pattern as electrical interconnects, soft elastomeric membranes as encapsulations, and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with low curing agent ratio as adhesive layers.

The individualized precision management of hereditary pheochromocytoma (PHEO) and paraganglioma (PGL) syndromes (PPGLs) based on molecular diagnosis and molecular subtype is becoming more popular. The newly discovered germline mutation-associated PPGLs are autosomally dominant and rare. To raise awareness and explore the effective management of individual diagnosis and treatment, the relevant literature published between January 2011 and February was systematically reviewed.

Purpose: Curcumin nanocrystals (Cur-NCs) were prepared by hot melt extrusion (HME) technology to improve the dissolution and bioavailability of curcumin (Cur).

Methods: Cur-NCs with different drug-carrier ratios were prepared by one-step extrusion process with Eudragit EPO (EEP) as the carrier. The dispersed size and solid state of Cur in extruded samples were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Lumbar foraminal stenosis was associated with back pain and leg pain: epidemiological evidence from a population-based cohort.

Neuroradiology

September 2024

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, 79# Qingchun Road, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, 310003, China.

Objectives: To determine the characteristics of lumbar foraminal stenosis (LFS) on magnetic resonance (MR) images and their association with back pain and radiating leg pain in a population-based sample of Chinese subjects.

Methods: This study was an extension of the Hangzhou Lumbar Spine Study, a cross-sectional study focusing on back pain and lumbar spine MR imaging findings. Questionnaire data, including demographics, lifestyle, occupational exposures, back pain and radiating leg pain were included.

Background: Conservative treatments are important in lumbar disc herniation (LDH), but predictors for poor outcomes are unclear.

Methods: Consecutive patients with unilateral single-level LDH at L3-4 or L4-5 were enrolled. Baseline clinical data were collected, and lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging was evaluated.

[The trends in early precision diagnosis and treatment strategies of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2].

Zhonghua Wai Ke Za Zhi

November 2022

Department of Urology, the First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou 311200, China.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) is an autosomal dominant hereditary neuroendocrine cancer syndrome characterized by medullary thyroid carcinoma, in combination or not with pheochromocytoma, hyperparathyroidism and extra-endocrine features, and two forms subtyped as MEN2A and MEN2B. Based on the correlation between proto-oncogene mutation and MEN2 phenotype, MEN2 could be prevented through prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic testing. Integrating the detection of mutation with measurement of serum calcitonin, plasma or urinary metanephrine/normetanephrine, and serum parathyroid hormone levels could accurately predict the progression of MEN2, and then facilitating implementation of personalized precision treatment.

Dysregulated lncRNA TUG1 in different pulmonary artery cells under hypoxia.

Ann Transl Med

May 2021

Department of Cardio-Pulmonary Circulation, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University, School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Background: At present, the role of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is not fully understood. This study aimed to explore differences in the hypoxia-induced expression of lncRNAs and their potential role in multiple pulmonary artery cells.

Methods: LncRNA expression in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs), pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMECs), and pericytes (PCs) was analyzed by high-throughput sequencing and compared between normoxic and hypoxic cells.

Introduction: Traumatic thoracolumbar burst fracture is a common condition without a clear consensus on the best treatment approach. Percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (PPSF) techniques are widely used in practice, while its ability to correct fracture deformity is relatively weak, especially for the central area of the endplate. In this study, we reported a novel technique to reduce the fractured central endplate in thoracolumbar burst fractures.
