Department of Critical Care Medicine, People's Hospital of Baoan Shenzhen, The 8th People's Hospital of Shenzhen, Shenzhen, Guangdong, PR China.

Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have been described in various malignancies and viewed as a sign of anti-tumor immunity, so they are frequently thought to be implicated in the prognosis of cancers. However, little information is available on the association of the distribution pattern of TILs with clinical outcomes in gastric cancer (GC). TIL densities at different regions were assessed immunohistochemically in 59 GC patients to analyze their relationship with clinicopathological characteristics.

November 2021

Department of Trauma and Orthopedics, Second Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University & Affiliated Baoan Hospital of Shenzhen, Southern Medical University, The 8th People's Hospital of Shenzhen, Shenzhen, China.

Hallux varus deformity most commonly occurs as a complication of bunion surgery. Surgical option depends on the underlying cause, flexibility of the deformity, and presence of osteoarthritis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Joint-preserving surgery including medial soft tissue release, metatarsal osteotomy, and tendon transfer can be considered in flexible deformity without degeneration of the first metatarsophalangeal joint.

Lateral heel pain can have numerous causes and many of them are intra-articular pathologies of the anterior and posterior subtalar joint. Frequently, there is not a single pathology that account for the lateral heel pain and combination of different pathologies can occur. Symptomatic too-long anterior process of the calcaneus, sinus tarsi syndrome, and subtalar arthrofibrosis can be precipitated by repeated sprain.

The Role of HLA-G in Tumor Escape: Manipulating the Phenotype and Function of Immune Cells.

Front Oncol

December 2020

Department of Gastroenterology, Center for Digestive Diseases, People's Hospital of Baoan District, The 8th People's Hospital of Shenzhen, Shenzhen, China.

Human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) is a non-classical major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC I) molecule, and under physiological conditions, its expression is strictly restricted to the maternal-fetal interface and immune-privileged organs where HLA-G is expected to contribute to establishment and maintenance of immune tolerance. However, the expression of HLA-G has been found in various types of tumors, and the level of its expression frequently correlates with high-grade histology and poor prognosis, raising the possibility that it may play a negative role in tumor immunity. ILT2 and ILT4, present on a broad of immune cells, have been identified as the main receptors engaging HLA-G, and their interactions have been found to allow the conversion of effectors like NK cells and T cells to anergic or unresponsive state, activated DCs to tolerogenic state, and to drive the differentiation of T cells toward suppressive phenotype.

Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD), a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, has been used for recovering neurological dysfunctions and treating post-stroke disability in China for 200 years. In the present study, we investigated the effects of BHD on inhibiting neuronal apoptosis, promoting proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) and neurite formation and enhancing learning and memory functional recovery in an experimental rat ischemic stroke model. BHD significantly reduced infarct volume and decreased cell apoptosis in the ischemic brain.

December 2020

Department of Gastroenterology, Center For Digestive Diseases, People's Hospital of Baoan District, The 8th People's Hospital of Shenzhen, Shenzhen, 518101, Guangdong, China.

Due to falling prevalence of viral hepatitis (VH), obesity, alcoholism and related liver diseases have become increasingly frequent and important as causes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, mechanisms underlying hepatocarcinogenesis and tumor progression in VH-negative HCC remain poorly understood. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been implicated in pathogenesis of human diseases, including HCC.

The list of late complications after calcaneal fracture that can be treated through arthroscopic and/or endoscopic approach continues to expand. The late complications of calcaneal fractures can be classified into 3 groups: (1) those causing focal hindfoot or ankle pain, (2) those causing functional deficit, and (3) those present with diffuse and poorly localized pain. Many group 1 and some group 2 complications can be managed arthroscopically and/or endoscopically.

Radix Astragali (AR) is a commonly used medicinal herb for post-stroke disability in Traditional Chinese Medicine but its active compounds for promoting neurogenic effects are largely unknown. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that Astragaloside VI could be a promising active compound from AR for adult neurogenesis and brain repair via targeting epidermal growth factor (EGF)-mediated MAPK signaling pathway in post-stroke treatment. By using cultured neural stem cells (NSCs) and experimental stroke rat model, we investigated the effects of Astragaloside VI on inducing NSCs proliferation and self-renewal in vitro, and enhancing neurogenesis for the recovery of the neurological functions in post-ischemic brains in vivo.

Transplant Tolerance: Current Insights and Strategies for Long-Term Survival of Xenografts.

Arch Immunol Ther Exp (Warsz)

October 2018

Shenzhen Xenotransplantation Medical Engineering Research and Development Center' Institute of Translational Medicine, Shenzhen Second People's Hospital, First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University, Shenzhen University School of Medicine, Shenzhen University Health Science Center, Shenzhen, 518035, Guangdong, China.

Xenotransplantation is an attractive solution to the problem of allograft shortage. However, transplants across discordant species barriers are subject to vigorous immunologic and pathobiologic hurdles, some of which might be overcome with the induction of immunologic tolerance. Several strategies have been designed to induce tolerance to a xenograft at both the central (including induction of mixed chimerism and thymic transplantation) and peripheral (including adoptive transfer of regulatory cells and blocking T cell costimulation) levels.
