Chitinase‑3 like‑protein‑1 (CHI3L1), a glycoprotein belonging to the glycoside hydrolase family 18, binds to chitin; however, this protein lacks chitinase activity. Although CHI3L1 is not an enzyme capable of degrading chitin, it plays significant roles in abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism, indicating its involvement in metabolic disorders. In addition, CHI3L1 is considered a key player in inflammatory diseases, with clinical data suggesting its potential as a predictor of cardiovascular disease.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by airway remodeling and bronchial hyperresponsiveness. A variety of effector cells and cytokines jointly stimulate the occurrence of inflammatory response in asthma. Although the pathogenesis of asthma is not entirely clear, the possible roles of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been recently demonstrated.

Purpose: To explore the efficacy and safety of oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery (OBCS) combined with intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) in the treatment of early breast cancer (EBC).

Methods: The clinical data of 114 EBC patients treated in our hospital from January 2014 to May 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into OBCS + IORT group (OBCS group, n=32) and standard BCS (SBCS) + IORT group (SBCS group, n=82) according to different treatment methods.

The senescence and degeneration of the intervertebral disc are closely related to the reduction of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells caused by apoptosis. TIR-domain-containing adapter-inducing interferon-β (TRIF) is an adapter for Toll-like receptors 3/4 (TLR3/4), which involves in cell apoptosis. The aim of this study is to detect the role of TRIF in the apoptotic progress of NP cells.
