  • - The research utilized machine learning techniques on a 34-year meteorological time series for estimating wheat yield in five Punjab districts, applying models like stepwise multi-linear regression, artificial neural network, and random forest.
  • - Wheat yield at different crop growth stages was estimated using weather data, with models trained and validated in R software showing strong performance metrics like MAPE and nRMSE below 6%.
  • - Among the models tested, random forest outperformed others (SVR and DNN) for yield estimation accuracy, particularly in the Faridkot, Ferozpur, and Gurdaspur districts.

Introduction: Donors for patients requiring hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) are selected based on matching genetic sequences encoding the antigen recognition domain of specific HLA loci. However, differences in transplant outcomes in fully matched unrelated HCT compared with sibling HCT suggest that other genetic regions within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) may contribute to HCT outcomes.

Methods: We sequenced the non-classical MHC loci (NCML) HLA-E, -F, -G, -H, MICA and MICB on a well-characterized retrospective cohort of 157 unrelated donor/recipient HCT pairs to determine the extent of MHC mismatching in matched pairs.

Background: Impaired balance and gait in stroke survivors are associated with decreased functional independence. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of unilateral lower-limb exoskeleton robot-assisted overground gait training compared with conventional treatment and to explore the relationship between neuroplastic changes and motor function recovery in subacute stroke patients.

Methods: In this randomized, single-blind clinical trial, 40 patients with subacute stroke were recruited and randomly assigned to either a robot-assisted training (RT) group or a conventional training (CT) group.

Dimensional versus categorical approach: A comparative study of mathematical cognition.

Trends Neurosci Educ

December 2024

Psychophysiology Laboratory, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai 400076, India.

Background: Researchers have employed two distinct methods to understand the cognitive underpinnings of mathematical ability: categorical and dimensional. These two methods have different underlying assumptions. However, to the best of our knowledge, research to date has not empirically tested which method can better predict variance in mathematical ability.

  • Midostaurin is the first targeted treatment for AML FLT3 and reduces mortality by 23% compared to standard chemotherapy, but it has side effects, especially gastrointestinal issues.
  • A case was reported where a patient experienced acute pancreatitis symptoms after starting midostaurin, including abdominal pain and elevated enzyme levels.
  • The patient was treated with IV hydration and anti-symptomatic care, recovering after four days, but drug-induced acute pancreatitis remains a rare and complicated diagnosis without established links to midostaurin despite various potential mechanisms.

Introduction: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines have been offered in Quebec schools to 4th-grade (9-10 years old) girls since 2008 and boys since 2016. HPV vaccine coverage does not reach the 90 % target in many regions. This project evaluated the feasibility and the acceptability of interventions to improve HPV vaccine acceptability and coverage in school-based programs.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of submucosal 8 mg (2 mL) dexamethasone (DEX) on postoperative pain, swelling, chewing efficiency, trismus, healing, and discomfort after periodontal flap surgery (PFS).

Methods: In this randomized controlled split-mouth study, 25 patients underwent PFS in the mandible, whereby postoperative, submucosal DEX was injected to the surgical field to the test group and submucosal normal saline was applied to the control group. Pain was evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the 101-point numeric rate scale in the first 8 h after PFS and on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th days, whereas swelling, chewing efficiency, trismus, healing, discomfort and analgesic consumption were evaluated preoperatively on the 1st, 2nd and 7th days.

  • L-Arginine (L-Arg) is a crucial amino acid for human growth, and imbalances in its levels can lead to health issues, making its quantification important in life sciences.
  • A new sensing system was developed using 5,10,15,20-(4-sulphonatophenyl)porphyrin (TSPP) that demonstrates colorimetric and fluorescence changes when L-Arg is present, toggling between "ON" and "OFF" states with specific color transitions.
  • The system can accurately detect L-Arg concentrations, showing a linear detection range of 3.14 to 145.20 μM in colorimetric sensing and 1.49 to 271.74

December 2024

College of Animal Science and Technology, Ningxia University, Helan Mountain West Road, Yinchuan, Ningxia, 750021, China.

Background: Dorper sheep are celebrated for their fast maturation and superior meat quality, with some shedding their wool each spring. Wool shedding occurs naturally due to the hair follicle (HF) cycle, but its regulatory mechanisms remain unclear and need further investigation.

Results: In this study, shedding and non-shedding sheep were selected from the same Dorper flock.

Objectives: This article describes the development and evaluation of the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs Quick Version 4 (GAIN-Q4) for the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) 4th edition patient placement dimension ratings and level of care placement recommendations. The research questions are as follows: (1) Can the GAIN-Q4 replicate recommendations from the prior longer instrument within adolescents and adults? (2) What are the substantive differences in the results by age?

Methods: The 35- to 45-minute GAIN-Q4 was developed through modification of the GAIN-Q3 and evaluated in terms of its ability to predict ASAM dimensional ratings and level of care placement recommendations from the 60- to 120-minute GAIN-I instrument. Data were obtained from participants who are adolescents aged 12 to 17 years (n = 101,897) and adults 18 years and older (n = 204,711) interviewed between 2002 and 2018 across 530 US sites.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: The Journey of an Architect-Researcher in Palliative Environments.

Stud Health Technol Inform

November 2024

Designing for More, Faculty of Architecture and Arts, Hasselt University, Belgium.

As an architect, I felt a strong moral urge to engage in research aimed at creating more human-centred healthcare environments, particularly in the context of palliative care. Being relatively new to this field 4 years ago, my primary goal then was to develop a deep understanding of these unique contexts, with a special focus on the people involved. To achieve this, I embarked on an immersive ethnographic study over the last few years, involving participant observations in three distinct palliative environments (i.

Despite the multifaceted and diverse challenges that refugees, migrants, and asylum-seekers experience when entering a new country, they remain notably underrepresented in the evaluation and understanding of the health and wellbeing impacts of outdoor health interventions. We addressed this knowledge gap by a mixed-methods evaluation (questionnaires, focus groups and photo elicitation activity) facilitated by a community researcher. Qualitative data (focus groups and photo elicitation activity) revealed that the participants saw the social component of outdoor activities as a critical factor in improving their wellbeing, an insight not captured by established quantitative wellbeing scales.
