State Key Laboratory of Military Stomatology & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Stomatology, Department of Oral Medicine, School of Stomatology, The Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, 710032, People's Republic of China.

Background: Although anti-programmed death receptor-1 (PD-1) agents have been evaluated in the neoadjuvant setting for the treatment of locally advanced head and neck cancer, including oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC), the overall response rate is modest. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant nivolumab in combination with stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for the treatment of locally advanced OCSCC.

Methods: OCSCC patients who underwent surgical resection within 6 months of treatment with nivolumab plus SBRT from December 2018 to February 2021 were analyzed retrospectively.

Background: Patients who do not respond to conservative treatment of the isthmus are often treated with surgery. We used direct repair plus intersegment pedicle screw fixation for the treatment of lumbar spondylolysis. The aim of this observational study was to assess the effects of this technique and evaluate various risk factors potentially predicting the probability of disc and facet joint degeneration after instrumentation.

Objective: To investigate the optimal temperature of hypothermia treatment in rats with cardiac arrest caused by ventricular fibrillation (VF) after the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).

Methods: A total of forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were induced by VF through the guidewire with a maximum of 5 mA current and untreated for 8 min. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed for 8 min followed by defibrillation (DF).

With the rapid development of IoT technology, it is a new trend to combine edge computing with smart medicine in order to better develop modern medicine, avoid the crisis of information "sibling," and meet the requirements of timeliness and computational performance of the massive data generated by edge devices. However, edge computing is somewhat open and prone to security risks, so the security and privacy protection of edge computing systems for smart healthcare is receiving increasing attention. The two groups were compared before and after treatment for blood glucose, blood lipids, blood pressure, renal function, serum advanced glycosylation end products (AGEs) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), serum oxidative stress indicators, and levels of cAMP/PKA signalling pathway-related proteins in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

June 2021

Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, United States.

Understanding knowledge and behavioral responses to the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is important for appropriate public health interventions. To assess knowledge of COVID-19 and to examine determinants associated with the adoption of preventive health behaviors among future health care providers. An anonymous online survey was sent out to pharmacy students in high and low-endemic areas of COVID-19 in China.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Although our understanding in the pathophysiological features of sepsis has increased significantly during the past decades, there is still lack of specific treatment for sepsis. Neutrophils are important regulators against invading pathogens, and their role during sepsis has been studied extensively.

Epidemiological studies of malignant primary conjunctival tumors are rare. We extracted data pertaining to primary site-labeled conjunctival cancer patients present within the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 1992 to 2001 and from 2002 to 2011. The Kaplan-Meier approach was used for comparisons of overall survival (OS) between patients, while OS-related risk factors were identified via a Cox proportional hazards regression approach.

: Several studies have investigated two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs4986790 and rs4986791) of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) susceptibility. However, their results varied. Here, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between these two SNPs and AMD susceptibility.
