The present study aimed to investigate the hydrogeochemical patterns and contamination of the radiogeology, especially radon activity, related to geothermal aquifer properties and to perform a risk assessment of annual effective doses covering all hydrothermal spring attractions in Southern Thailand. Radon is an established lung carcinogen; especially longer term exposure to radioactive radon through inhalation could be a cause of lung cancer risk. Altogether 22 hydrothermal spring samples were collected from the six hydrothermal provinces in Southern Thailand in early November of 2023.

Tritium, a radioactive isotope produced naturally through cosmic radiation interactions and anthropogenically through nuclear weapons testing, poses potential environmental risks, particularly within the water cycle. This study measured tritium concentrations in surface water across Thailand to establish a baseline dataset for monitoring potential contamination from nuclear activities and accidents. Surface water samples were collected from 14 large reservoirs during the wet season in October 2023 and the dry season in February 2024, providing a total of 28 samples.

In this research, blends of bio-based polybenzoxazine (V-fa) and polycaprolactone (PCL) with different molecular weights (M) (14,000, 45,000, and 80,000 Da) were prepared with varying PCL content from 10 to 95 wt%. The spectra measured using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) may indicate the presence of hydrogen bonding between two polymeric components. The thermograms obtained using a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) exhibited a shift in glass transition temperature (T), which indicated partial miscibility between V-fa and PCL.

An investigation into Cu(II) adsorption from contaminated water utilizing a trickle tray column that has been upscaled from batch-scale adsorption was performed to understand the efficacy of the adsorbent when used in a continuous system-which is more common in actual use in an industry. The size of the functionalized fabric adsorbent selected in a pilot-scale is about four times larger than a batch-scale. The continuous Cu(II) adsorption was analyzed using three parameters: initial Cu(II) concentration in solution; inlet solution flow rate and number of adsorbent sheets in the column to estimate the adsorption process's breakthrough curve results.

The solvothermal reactions of ZnCl·6HO, benzene-1,3,5-tribenzoic acid (Hbtb), and N-heterocyclic ancillary imidazole (Im) or aminopyrimidine (a mp) ligands led to the creation of two-dimensional (2D) zinc(II) based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), (MeNH)[Zn(btb)(Im)]·2DMF·3MeOH (1) and (MeNH)[Zn(btb)(amp)]·HO·2DMF·MeOH (2). The btb ligands in 1 and 2 form an anionic 2D layered structure with a (6) honeycomb (hcb) topology by linking to Zn(II) centres through their carboxylate groups. The incorporation of N-heterocyclic auxiliary ligands Im and amp into the hcb nets resulted in the formation of a 2D hydrogen-bonded and covalently pillared bilayer structure featuring two-fold interpenetrating networks.

The fish processing sector produces millions of tons of trash annually-a biologically dangerous substance that could eventually turn into a source of pathogenic contamination. This work successfully shows how to extract tilapia fish scale hydroxyapatite with ultrasonic assistance and modify it using gamma-irradiated chitosan to remove malachite green from water samples. The use of γ-irradiation to tailor the physicochemical properties of materials is not widely applied to layered alkali metal oxides. Herein, we show that γ-irradiation (up to 400 kGy) of NaTiO leads to a sodium-poor, hydroxyl-rich analogue where the layered structure, plate-like morphology, and textural properties are preserved. The deintercalation of sodium ions modifies the Ti-O bond lengths and expands the unit cell; the latter is supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

A novel Imaging Neutral Particle Analyzer (INPA) was newly installed in early 2024 to enhance the understanding of fast ion confinement on Large Helical Devices (LHDs). This diagnostic system, based on a magnetic spectrometer using a scintillator, provides energy-resolved radial profiles of confined fast ions by measuring charge-exchanged fast neutrals escaping from the plasma. The system utilizes a 100 nm thick carbon foil to ionize the fast neutrals, subsequently deflecting the ions toward a scintillator via the existing local magnetic field.

Anaerobically-treated palm oil mill effluent (POME) still has unacceptable properties for water recycling and reuse, with an unpleasant appearance due to the brownish color caused by tannins and phenolic compounds. This study proposes an approach for treating anaerobically-treated POME for water recycling by combining organic precipitation, electrocoagulation (EC), and ion-exchange resin, followed by reverse osmosis (RO) membrane filtration in series. This study introduces a gamma pretreatment of water hyacinth powder for activated carbon (AC) production with improved electrochemical properties for supercapacitor applications. The preparation of matrix-matched material for elemental quantitative analysis in rice flour matrix is proposed here for the first time as part of a feasibility study using the SN-ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS methods. Reacting trimesic acid (HTMA, CHO) with CaCl and MCl at 110 °C under hydrothermal conditions gave the isostructural heterobimetallic coordination polymers (CPs) catena-poly[[tetraaquazinc(II)]-μ-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato-[tetraaquacalcium(II)]-μ-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato], [CaZn(HTMA)(HO)], 1, and catena-poly[[tetraaquacobalt(II)]-μ-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato-[tetraaquacalcium(II)]-μ-5-carboxybenzene-1,3-dicarboxylato], [CaCo(HTMA)(HO)], 2. Compounds 1 and 2 crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/c. The solid-state structures consist of eight-coordinate Ca ions and six-coordinate M ions.

Due to the increasing demands for improved radiation safety and the growing concerns regarding the excessive use of plastics, this work aimed to develop effective and eco-friendly thermal-neutron-shielding materials based on recycled high-density polyethylene (r-HDPE) composites containing varying surface-treated gadolinium oxide (GdO) contents (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%). The results indicate that the overall thermal-neutron-shielding properties of the r-HDPE composites were enhanced with the addition of GdO, as evidenced by large reductions in I/I, HVL, and TVL, as well as the substantial increases in ∑ and ∑ of the composites. Furthermore, the results reveal that the values for tensile properties initially increased up to 5-15 wt% of GdO and then gradually decreased at higher contents.
