Plasmid-mediated antibiotic-resistant bacteria's transmission is fatal and a major threat to public health. This study aimed to clarify the presence of plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance(PMQR)genes in extended-spectrum β-lactamase(ESBL)-producing or/and mcr-harbouring colistin(COL)-resistant Escherichia coli(ESBL-COL-EC)isolates from Vietnamese and Japanese chicken meat. Resistance towards ciprofloxacin(CIP)was examined in 308 ESBL-COL-EC isolates; CIP-resistant ESBL-COL-EC isolates were examined for the PMQR gene.

Human infection with these bacteria may be food-mediated but has not been fully elucidated. Background: Three clinical trials have examined the chronic effects of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) on muscle mass and function in frail older adults (mean age 85 years old). However, significant increases in muscle mass and some muscle function relative to long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) have yet to be shown, possibly due to the small number of participants in each trial.
Objective: We re-analyzed these previous clinical trials to clarify whether MCT supplementation can increase muscle mass and function.

Although it is now well documented that laboratory rats learn to avoid the flavored substance consumed immediately before running in activity wheels or swimming in water buckets, research on this activity-based flavor avoidance learning in other species is limited. Recently, running-based flavor avoidance learning has been demonstrated in laboratory mice by employing a method of resistance-to-habituation of neophobic reaction to novel food; mice that repeatedly experience running after encountering a novel food have a prolonged tendency to reject that food compared to control mice without paired running. The present article reports a series of attempts to obtain evidence of flavor avoidance learning based on swimming rather than running using this resistance-to-habituation method.

Mycobacterium infection gives rise to granulomas predominantly composed of inflammatory M1-like macrophages, with bacteria-permissive M2 macrophages also detected in deep granulomas. Our histological analysis of bacillus Calmette-Guerin-elicited granulomas in guinea pigs revealed that S100A9-expressing neutrophils bordered a unique M2 niche within the inner circle of concentrically multilayered granulomas. We evaluated the effect of S100A9 on macrophage M2 polarization based on guinea pig studies.

Inattention caused by central fatigue is closely related to attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms, but the neurochemical mechanism of central fatigue remains hypothetical. Background: Although the age-adjusted incidence and mortality of cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) have been decreasing steadily in Japan, both diseases remain major contributors to morbidity and mortality along with the aging society. Herein, we aim to provide a prescription of 10 health tips for long and healthy life named the "Lifelong Health Support 10 (LHS10)."
Method: The LHS10 was developed by the preventive medicine specialists at the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center in Suita, where it has been used for health guidance to prevent CVD, cancer, and cognitive decline in addition to their major risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.
