Background: Headache disorders are prevalent often leading to disability. The rectus capitus posterior major muscle (RCPMaj) may contribute to headache symptoms via nociceptive convergence and myodural bridging.
Objectives: To establish guidelines for needle length and needle angle to mitigate risks during dry needling RCPMaj.

Background And Aim: Lubiprostone increases chloride and water secretion in the intestines, and several studies have demonstrated the efficacy of lubiprostone in treating functional constipation. Several new clinical trials have emerged since the previous meta-analysis conducted in 2020. We conducted this updated meta-analysis to assess clinical efficacy of lubiprostone in these patients.

Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder with a complex etiology involving genetic, neurobiological, and environmental factors. Many individuals with schizophrenia experience treatment resistance despite advances in pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. Immune dysregulation, characterized by altered cytokine levels, immune-related gene expression, and neuroinflammation, plays a critical role in schizophrenia's pathogenesis.

Introduction: Opioids have served as a cornerstone in pain management for decades. However, the emergence of increasingly potent synthetic analogs brings forth a range of side effects, including respiratory depression, tolerance, dependence, constipation, and, more importantly, the development of severe and debilitating opioid use disorder (OUD). Search for therapeutics to mitigate OUD has been challenging and this has called for novel approaches that include design of small molecules targeting neuronal circuits involved in addiction (opioid, dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, and glutamate receptors, etc.

Background: Statins are the mainstay of therapy in patients suffering an acute ischemic stroke (AIS) or myocardial infarction (MI); however, several studies have shown that prescribing is not optimal.
Objective: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the percentage of patients prescribed appropriate statin therapy upon discharge after an AIS or MI.
Methods: This is a single-center retrospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary, county, teaching hospital in patients aged 18 to 89 years who were newly diagnosed with AIS or MI, from September 2017 to September 2022.

Background: The effect of pregnancy on individuals with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is not well investigated.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of pregnancy on all-cause mortality and clinical outcomes among individuals with HCM.
Methods: Using the TriNetX research network, we identified individuals within reproductive age (≥18-45 years) with a diagnosis of HCM between 2012 and 2022 (n = 10,936).
Penicillin is a frequently reported medication allergy. The beta-lactam ring shared between cephalosporins and penicillin often leads to the use of alternative antibiotics for surgical prophylaxis due to concern for cross-reactivity, despite a true IgE-mediated hypersensitivity being very rare. This misconception leads to the use of less effective second line antibiotics, such as clindamycin or vancomycin, for penicillin-allergic patients which has been shown to increase odds of postoperative infection in elective knee arthroplasty, shoulder arthroplasty and spine surgery.

Objective: Social media has become an important tool in monitoring infectious disease outbreaks such as coronavirus disease 2019 and highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). Influenced by the recent announcement of a possible human death from H5N2 avian influenza, we analyzed tweets collected from X (formerly Twitter) to describe the messaging regarding the HPAI outbreak, including mis- and dis-information, concerns, and health education.
Methods: We collected tweets involving keywords relating to HPAI for 5 days (June 04 to June 08, 2024).

Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related dementia preferentially impacts two-thirds of women and one-third of men. The steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) protein mediates the biosynthesis of neurosteroids that sustain diverse neuronal activities. Aging, involving neurosteroidal imbalance, is the predominant risk factor for AD causing dementia.

The vascular endothelium and its endothelial glycocalyx contribute to the protection of the endothelial cells from exposure to high levels of sodium and help these structures maintain normal function by regulating vascular permeability due to its buffering effect. The endothelial glycocalyx has negative surface charges that bind sodium and limit sodium entry into cells and the interstitial space. High sodium levels can disrupt this barrier and allow the movement of sodium into cells and extravascular fluid.

We investigated associations of menopausal age category with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, and waist-height ratio. We also explored the moderating effect of anthropometric measures on associations of menopausal age category with prespecified sex hormones: estradiol, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), sex hormone-binding globulin, bioavailable testosterone, and total testosterone-estradiol (T/E) ratio. In this cross-sectional study, we included 2,436 postmenopausal women from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis who had menopausal age, anthropometric, and sex hormone data at baseline.

Our study investigated the prevalence of lean steatotic liver disease (SLD) and its subcategories, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), metabolic dysfunction-related and alcohol-related SLD (MetALD), and alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) among lean adults in the US. Analysing data from 2965 lean adults (≥ 18 years) from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2017-2023), we found the age-adjusted prevalence of lean SLD to be 12.8%.

Background: The sacroiliac joints (SIJ) are specialized articulations in the pelvis that allow load transfer between the upper and lower body. Traumatic pelvic disruption often requires surgical fixation of at least one of these joints. Subsequent SIJ pain is associated with asymmetries in joint laxity or stiffness.

Background/aims: Alcohol represents a leading burden of disease worldwide, including alcohol use disorder (AUD) and alcohol-related liver disease (ALD). We aim to assess the global burden of AUD, ALD, and alcohol-attributable primary liver cancer between 2000-2021.
Methods: We registered the global and regional trends of AUD, ALD, and alcohol-related liver cancer using data from the Global Burden of Disease 2021 Study, the largest and most up-to-date global epidemiology database.
